**Official Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Discussion Thread**

MY BD-ROM / DVD Drive keeps vanishing from the boot options / bios. It was there prior to installing Windows as I had to boot from DVD to install it.

Went to try and boot off a different DVD and there's nothing listed in the boot options or any sign of there being a DVD drive in the bios at all. I have not changed anything in the bios related to drives since installing Windows.

I am sure previously I saw CD-ROM drive listed on a separate line having its own boots options (BBS or something?) in the BIOS.

Windows sees the drive and it works under the OS just fine.

Bios is 14.0 BTW

My bios version is F8 lol, looks like their has been quite a few versions since then. It seems very stable though, not noticed any obvious problems. I'll probably flash it to F14 though at some point.

in the modified version of bios roms, there seems to be a new bios (beta)
15t > may try l8r see what like

Z77X-UD5H Bios F15t MOD
Update with...
1. Intel® RAID ROM 11.6.0.1702
2. Intel® VGA ROM 2137
3. Marvell SATA3 ROM 1.0.1.0025
4. Atheros LAN ROM 2.0.6.6 and 2.1.1.1 PXE 2.0 Build 083
5. Intel® LAN ROM 1.3.95 PXE 2.1 Build 091
z77xud5hMOD_10_16_12.15t

Is it just me missing the obvious, usually is, but having tried that one out I can't seem to find the fast boot options in the bios for selecting Windows 8 as the OS. Also do other options seem to be missing...?
When in the bios the revision is dated 2012 as well.

I really like this motherboard, one thing ive noticed though is that the 2 x USB3 header ports on the bottom row are very close together, its quite difficult the get 2 header plugs in side by side due to how wide the connectors are and how close together the ports are, they needed to be a few mm wider apart.

Well done, well spot on, must report this to gigabyte support

On this board do the PCIe x1 slots affect the x16 slot ?

I had a look in the manual, it says the x8 and x4 slots affect the x16 slot as they share it, i couldn't see it mentioning if the x1 slots affect the x16 slot ?

Thanks mate.

Just one other quick thing, if you were running a PCIe sound card, would it make any difference at all if it was in the x8 slot or the x4 slot, also are the x8 and x4 slots equal in performance to a x1 slot.

You could easily put a PCI-E x1 sound card in the x8/x4 slots, but unless it supports the extra lanes, it's a waste.

The problem ive got is the only PCI-E x1 slot i can access is just under the GPU, when the sound card is in its really too close to the GPU, you can get a fag paper between them. The GPU was running 8 degrees warmer in idle due to how close the sound card was, no room to breathe.

I see what you mean. Use the top PCI-E x1 considering you have the UD5H.

Again, not possible as i have a Phanteks PH-TC14PE air cooler, their is no space to get the card into that X1 slot at the top. Thats why i was asking really which would be the best slot to use, the X8 or X4 or doesn't it make any difference which one i use out of the 2 ?

I am wanting to cover the horrible orange power switch on the motherboard but cant think how to do it. I have tried covering it with a black permanent marker but you can still see the orange glow around the outside.

I was trying to find a rubber cover or grommet.

Anyone got any ideas?

ha - just looked through the top grill of my case and for the first time I can see that orange button and a red LED panel thing below it.

I stick a coaster for my coffee cup over the blue LED power light on my Coolmaster case, as that is way too bright.

Can't you just stick some black insulation tape around and over the light..?

Or just shove your case somewhere where it can't be seen.
