***Official GTX 670 thread***

had a quick play around when i got in last night, no benchmarks or anything, just trying some games

metro 2033 - 1080p, very high, dx11, dof off, only aaa, rest max including physx on, 3D vision enabled, barely ever dropped from 60fps (very impressed with this, gtx 680 had no chance at these settings)

trine 2 - 3D vision surround (12120 x 1080 :p ), very high, medium aa, 50-60fps and probably is THE best looking game i've ever played, great in game 3D settings on this , set it up for max convergence, minimum depth

skyrim - 1080p, max, not many mods or anything though right now, 4xaa, 16af, 3D vision, never dropped from 60fps

gonna have a proper go on it tonight, i have a feeling work will drag today :(

edit: 301.34 drivers have stupid shutdown bug (have to hard power down) with surround enabled, switched to 301.40 to fix that

Got my Windforce installed last night, idle temps are 25c in a room at 19c. One quick run of Heaven gave a max boost of 1150 at stock. I will get to overclocking later on :)

Right i've got the upgrade bug.. curses!

This week only sees the KFA2 on at £317.99. I know this has the shorter PCB and I know it's probably going to be louder than the windforce, etc but i'm more worried about it not being as good a clocker?

I'll end up putting the card under water anyway (with a universal block or when the 670 blocks come out) so noise and temps won't be much of a problem.

But just want confirmation that the components aren't of lesser quality compared to the full length, more expensive cards?

Also from benches and reviews it appears it should be a rather nice upgrade over my 6950 running at 6970 clocks with unlocked shaders, correct? I'm not so much into benchmarking, just gaming and with a 120Hz monitor I tend to run Battlefield 3 in medium to low settings just to get more fps.

not of lesser quality, no, but the pones with 6+8 pin design will be more suitable for OC's as they should OC further hence more reason to watercool them

HA I knew you'd turn up in here eventually! :D Will chat to you this evening when im back from work! :p

Packaging Issues

Please can those who have mentioned about the problems with packing post in the Customer Service section of the forums.

I would like to have your order numbers and if you have pictures that would be great thank you. I need to find out who is doing this in the warehouse, so I can have a word with them and ensure this does not happen. Thank you.

Will do, I did manage to remove the tape but iirc some of the serial sticker pulled away so I'll include a pic of that - if the guys new don't be too harsh on him, mistakes happen especially when rushed on 670 release day ;)

Pgi - happy brithday!

You have balls much bigger than mine as i'm too scared to take the cooler of a windforce card as my warranty goes :(

I'm waiting for either EVGA or MSI to make a full length PCB :D

Thank you Cleee:)

Afaik it doesn't void the warranty (nothing in the packaging suggests so anyway). There wasn't any 'void if removed' stickers like my XFX cards anyhow.

Some nice temps, my card was similar on air, peaking at around 58c on air in an 800D with no airflow at all. Get clocking the nuts off it :D

you say that, but from the data I've collected so far it's not universally true - the EX OC seems to be struggling to really beat the reference review clocks

I don't have anyone with reference cards giving me their OC's yet which would really help paint a clearer picture (a reference card on water would be even better)

the most consistently best overclocker so far seems to be the windforce, so you have to ask yourself if the extra £50 is worth it for 3FPS (or if you are water cooling anyway then just get a reference 680 which will OC further again)

I think the whole 670 range is launch day over priced, you can see a couple of drops already but I think they'll keep dropping, I wouldn't be surprised to see sub 300 reference cards and the OC cards closer to the 320 mark over the next couple of months

Ok, I might take the chance then as my 6950 uses two 6 pins and runs unlocked shaders and clocks to around 930/1365 without any issues. I know it's a different kettle of fish but I'm not going for a world record here and anything will be a bonus over an already quick card.

You know me Bios, I am weak willed haha.

post your results in here if/when you get one:

will be useful info for anyone else thinking of getting one

Technically your warranty is void though :(

How easy was it to get the cooler off?

I'm only going on what Gibbo's said. The advantage of the Giga WF is that 680 blocks are compatible with it

How easy was it to get the cooler off?

Very very easy, 4 screws hold the main heatsink and fan assembly, 2 screws for the small VRM heatsink and then another 3 screws holding the metal 'Gigabyte' plate on, one of those screws has to go back in to hold the I/O plate in place.

Technically yes, but I'd be quite confident of getting it replaced, if not then unfortunately it would be another brand to check off the list to buy. Anyone else besides EVGA and MSI cool with block removal?

Is that really an advantage? From what people have said the WF already keeps the card far below the thermal throttle and they are already quiet, so water cooling seems like a waste of money..

Has anyone done it yet and shown before and after performance gains that are worth the price of a full cover block?

Adaptive v-sync is a pretty cool feature,

Ridge Racer Unbounded,

Without adaptive v-sync - GPU usage around 97%, temps hitting 77c, Fan @ 59%

With adaptive v-sync on - GPU usage around 48%, temps hitting 53c and wait for it.........fan @ 12% lol

12%

I don't think I ever realised before today that capping framerates lowered temps so much, it seems pretty obvious now but before I was in "must have the most frames" mindset but there really is no point in rendering frames above the refresh rate.

One thing good about these Asus cards is if you can keep the temps down they are completely inaudible even in a passive system because the fan runs so low.

Exactly. I have adaptive V-sync on all games with this. I've only got a reference cooler version of the 670, but this one setting has droppped my temperatures considerably. It seems pointless having the GPU useage constantly on 99% rendering frames above the monitors refresh rate.

On the reference cooler, I hit 78-80 degrees playing BF3 with a constant 95-99% GPU useage. Switched it to adaptive V-sync and now temperatures don't go above 66 degrees and GPU useage varies between 60% - 95% depending on what's going on. And as you point out the added advantage that the fan doesn't spin as fast, so less noise.

My ref 670 should be arriving today, along with 3D Vision and Benq 2410. I used this monitor last year with a 460GTX and 3D Vision. Had to lower the res to be playable so I'm looking forward to seeing how much better a 670 will be.

I was all set to get a 120Hz Projector instead of a monitor, but the total cost was getting a bit uncomfortable! Quite likely to get a 2nd for SLI later on, but currently running a Q6600 so this might hold it back too much.

Last time round I absolutely loved GTA4 and Metro in 3D. Had to run both at 1280x720 though to get anything over 15fps. Also looking forward to Half Life 2 and that Trine game looks like it'll be amazing in 3D. :)

Sorry what screen setup is this!?

Hi, I'm going to buy a 670 tomorrow and wanted some input on which one would be the best buy. I'm currently trying to decide between the evga superclock, the asus direct cu and the kfa2 oc version.

which of these would you recommend?.
