***Official GTX 670 thread***

Got my Windforce installed last night, idle temps are 25c in a room at 19c. One quick run of Heaven gave a max boost of 1150 at stock. I will get to overclocking later on :)

Let us know if you could break 1270+ mhz on core boost

My stock boost is very close to yours and mine wont go past 1263mhz

I still can't figure that out... what monitors have a resolution of 2020x1080

I thought maybe you had a 27" in the middle and were only using 1080 of the vertical pixels... but that doesn't add up either... the horizontal would be 2560+1920+1920 = 6400

custom :p its 5760 x 1080 with bezel correction

Is that really an advantage? From what people have said the WF already keeps the card far below the thermal throttle and they are already quiet, so water cooling seems like a waste of money..

Has anyone done it yet and shown before and after performance gains that are worth the price of a full cover block?

Gigabyte Windforce w/EK FC680 waterblock
Boost: 1354mhz
Memory: 7500mhz
Temp: 34c load
Noise: Non-existent
Heaven Score: 2157
Heaven FPS: 85.6
3DMark11: P10557

BF3 stable, cpu now at 5ghz.

basically it keeps things cooler and quieter but it doesn't gain you any mhz so it could be argued that it's a waste of money

I'm only going on what Gibbo's said. The advantage of the Giga WF is that 680 blocks are compatible with it

this is why I started my other thread, to see if it's true or more random

lots of people were dishing out "truths" based on rumour and that has come back to bite a couple of people in the arse on noise and lack of extra OC

the Windforce cooler seems to be so good that actually a waterblock is a bit of a waste (based on a sample of 1 WC/Windforce so far)

Okay, so they're phantoms and not poltergeists...

phantoms_670s.jpg

First impressions on the hardware....they look and feel a little cheap to be honest, but so does the entire 670 range imo. Nowhere near the build quality of the 570 phantom. Where once was metal on the 570 it's plastic on the 670. Still look the part though! Gainward must have decided the 670 didn't need it. As I knew already the cooler is a different design from the original. In the 570 phantom the 3 fans were sandwiched between the heatsink/fin array and the pcb. In 670 it's pcb - heatsink - 2 fans - aesthetic shroud. As far as I can tell the shroud grill on the front of the card is in no way connected to the heatsink. This might be a good thing though, go some way to stop some dust getting in and definitely adds to it's look.

Their new home ^^. The camera really picks up the dust. Need to give that a clean before anything.

Later I'll report the more important things like performance, noise and overclocking limit I reach.

Grr I've decided I'm definitely buying one of these to replace my GTX260 SLI setup. Hoping to get 80-100% increase in FPS in most games :)

Windforce or KFA2 while it's on offer? Does either have the full length PCb or will it not really matter?

Are you kidding me? Custom coolers are better noise wise, why are you even disputing this?

there are 2 seperate issues regarding the EX OC

"the EX OC will be an excellent overclocker because it has 6+8pin"

this doesn't seem to be true, it comes with a good factory OC but so far people don't seem to be getting much more than that (and from the few reviews available so far, not much further than a reference card is capable of)... but I need more data to draw any conclusions

"the EX OC will be a quiet card because it has an aftermarket cooler"

yes, on stock settings it is quiet, however the one person that has managed a decent overclock from it has said it is "noisy as hell", so if you are buying one because you want to OC it AND you want a quiet card, it also seems to fall down compared with other aftermarket cards

I'm not disputing that an aftermarket card is quieter than stock, however there's a difference between "quieter than" and actually "quiet"... if you wanted quiet AND good OC and didn't get it you might be dissapointed

it comes down to words like "worth" and "value" which are entirely subjective, but I what I would like to see is good advice based on direct experience instead of "it must be x because it has y" based on nothing other than hearsay and rumour, because that is more useful to me as a potential customer for this product (and ultimately OCUK as it avoids me DSR'ing the card because it doesn't do what the forum has led to me to believe it must)

Packaging Issues

Please can those who have mentioned about the problems with packing post in the Customer Service section of the forums.

I would like to have your order numbers and if you have pictures that would be great thank you. I need to find out who is doing this in the warehouse, so I can have a word with them and ensure this does not happen. Thank you.

Had exact the same problem.

My Galaxy GC topped out at 1306mhz on the core. Temps stay at 60c at 60%, but it's a bit warm in here.
The ram is still going. I'm at 550+ on that.

Hopefully its BF3 stable, but don't matter cause stock maxes out BF3.

basically it keeps things cooler and quieter but it doesn't gain you any mhz so it could be argued that it's a waste of money

Indeed, It is quite frustrating having all this cooling potential and other than noise it being of zero benefit. A very small part of me wants to get rid and get another 7970 just for the challenge, but as it is I'm going to sit tight and see what a custom bios can bring, as it stands 8+6pin is also pointless on the 670 as without a voltage increase these cards are hardly utilising those extra power phases. But on the other side of the coin, with a healthy overclock the 670 is beating quite a few 7970's and 680's.

Is one of these cards sufficient for a IPS monitor running at 2560*1440? In particular for gaming with ultra settings.

For most things, yes... depends on how much anti-aliasing you want :)

Metro 2033 and Crysis 2 require two of them in SLI to get up to 60FPS at that resolution though.

+1... as Eddy mentions Ultra I'm guessing he may be making mention of BF3 too...

this is a single card on single player - the 1600p goes down to mid 30's average so minimum frame rates on multiplayer would be lower still... I would suggest SLI for decent frame rates at 1440p

Ordered an KFA2 today, which should be with me tomorrow [though my order status is still on 'Printed in our warehouse' - not sure what time it needs to reach 'dispatched' to arrive tomorrow?]... I must admit I'll be delighted to get rid of this AMD HD6950 and have an nV card again.

Are the 301.34's the best drivers for these currently?
