***Official GTX 670 thread***

Windforce>phantom

simply because Gigabyte CS>Gainward CS

Also, judging by reviews, the windforce cards and phantoms are both very similar performers. Phantom 2.5 slots are quieter, otherwise, both dual slot cards are similar

Not having used any CS from either company I can't comment, but the gigabyte 670 is probably the better performing card of the two. A lot of people in here having been getting good overclocks with the windfugly :D (can't resist) I cannot deny that. However, this is the first attempt at overclocking a phantom, and it's only one sample I've seen in this forum. One swallow doesn't make it summer (but it does make a damn good date ;)).

can it run crysis? :p that's modded/tweaked too

tried a few games tonight, prototype in 3D locked at 60fps, lost planet 2 in 3D with no aa 60fps or 2xaa with some dips, just cause 2 gameplay locked at 60fps in 3D. no setup i've had in the past came anywhere close to that, very impressed so far and looking forward to trying the new build of pcars tomorrow

Does anyone else think crysis graphics are starting to look dated? I look at that image and yeah it's impressive, but it's more "cartoony" than photo-realistic. STALKER Clear Sky, is graphically less impressive, but looks better at times IMO

How do you know they are quieter? 3 fans vs 2? Yeah that makes sense. Have you heard the phantom? Didn't think so, so it's your opinion, not fact.

Just because they run at different fan speed doesn't mean you can make a judgement call with no factual evidence.

I'm glad your happy with your Gigabyte Windfugly, additional miniscule fps and superhero hearing. Seriously, I am.

People come in here to share info, help others and there's always some who just want to pee on your parade.

I have Asus DCU II ;)
You should calm down anyway ;)

Ok so I just checked my BF3 settings (via BF3 settings editor) and it appears I'm using ultra pre-set with 2x msaa, AA-Post on medium, motion blurr disabled and AO set to HBAO.

Along with forcing fxaa via nvcp what else should I be changing? Don't get me wrong its nice and smooth with the above but if I can make it even better then boost!

Edit: Little question about FXAA, if I force this for all 3d applications via nvcp, does that mean I don't need to bother with AA settings in any game?

Use the in game FXAA (post processing) if it's available in game like it is in BF3 - it's better as doesn't blur the interface etc.

Interesting thread here and it backs up what others are seeing, the 670's appear to be clocking higher than 680's

http://www.overclock.net/t/1258755/overclocking-and-benchmarking-gtx-670-vs-gtx-680

I like his conclusion:

It’s a custom design but it does not cost more than the reference cards

they clearly haven't tried buying one from OCUK :D

I would say they got a bit unlucky with the 680 windforce - a lot of reference cards are doing high 1200's so you'd have thought the windforce would do more... mind you isn't the windforce a reference 680 pcb? - so actually if you want a 680 good OC card then you don't want the 680 windforce

it'll work well with 3D depending on the game, some are obviously much more demanding than others, got 2 myself and kinda unsurprisingly everything runs flawless framrate wise in 3D

It's the reference card so comes with the stock Nvidia cooler.

Silent on idle, can't hear it over my Apache Blacks. 70% fan speed is when it starts to become noisy.

For what I paid and the performance increase I'm happy for a number of reasons. One, I game with head phones so even if the reference cooler is louder than the custom ones it doesn't bother me too much. Two, it trounces my 6950 in Battlefield 3 my main game. I can run at high/ultra settings, Post Processing off and 4xAA and it gets better and more stable FPS than running at medium/low settings at the same resolution.

Currently got the card at +25 on core and +350 on memory and it's running fine :) Still throttles back come 70 degrees but that's nothing which can't be sorted out with a water block ;)
