***Official GTX 670 thread***

Combine the fact my card now wants to down clock itself to something of the 5000 series equivalent as well as it constantly changing its boost clock during games... driver issue or not this card specifically is a pile of ****. (Drivers are up to date)

nvidia really need to allow you to turn off the boost clock feature, I've spent £360 on a card, I don't particularly care about paying an extra £1 on my electricity bill at the end of the month.

all cards I've owned in the past few years downclock when idle. my 560ti is currently running at 50mhz opposed to its standard 900, also goes to 450 sometimes. seems your card is stuck in one of those states for some reason, reinstalling drivers will probably fix it, your just being stubborn really

Stubborn? Really, I'm being stubborn? How so, I've already reinstalled my drivers before you recommended the obvious.

Well if your card is stuck at 535mhz when gaming then its faulty (or driver problem with the game, have you tried playing something else?), nothing to do with nvidias boost feature. Which 670 is it?

Did you selectively pick certain lines of my posts and ignore the rest?

Once again...

KFA2 EX OC 670 even in games like Skyrim/BF3 the clock setting is low and those games are like watching slide shows. World of Tanks and Tribes stutter frequently now.

It doesn't always lock itself down to a low frequency but when it does it you are the mercy of it fixing itself.

Well you didn't say before that you tried reinstalling drivers you just said 'why should I because its a 360 pound card'

It shouldn't downclock to that at all when gaming and your temps are fine so probably an issue with your card.

I assumed it would go without saying someone would reinstall or update their drivers first. Its not like I'm the sort of person who varnishes my card or anything.

If its an issue with the card, I'm thinking I might be best of sending it back on DSR rather than RMA because there is the chance the RMA might turn around and "We couldn't find a fault". Least with the DSR I'm guaranteed a refund.

Up to you... if it really is performing as bad as you say it is in games then there's something wrong with it. If your certain of that then send it back under dsr. I'm sure ocuk will be glad to take it back (seems a lot of people are returning theirs :D)

Its most likely a problem with Nvidias Turbo Boost and the drivers...... Like I said although many have nad no problem, there have been many reported problems with these cards and most of them are down to the fact Turbo Boost in new and makes it much more complicated = more potential problems.

As I said Nvidia need to make it do you can turn the Boost on or off because atm it clearly isnt solid and there are too many reported problems the main one being stutter.
I want to buyt one of these cards but wont till they sort it out.

do tell them it is faulty at the same time, even though you want to DSR - it would be horrible for someone else if it is faulty and they don't test it (being a DSR) and sell it to someone else as a b grade and then that person gets a faulty card too

at least if you DSR "because it's faulty" they might test it and they might give you back the return postage as well

I'm sure they would test all dsr returns anyway.

I've emailed Gigabyte support about the boost issues to see what they say, as I doubt I'd get a direct response from Nvidia on the issue (plus I can't find where support tickets go?).

I have until Wednesday night to decide. Its all well and good that I can breeze through games like BF3, but playing something on the lower end of the scale is becoming frustrating. Even Arkham City can be a pain as when I switch the the map or something the clocks drop then go back into the game it stutters as the clocks raise.

could someone re-assure me that the GTX 670 is a better card than the HD7970 - i see that the HD7970 is being sold on this site for £349

Yes and no, both appear to have their issues at the moment, fundamentally down to drivers. I'll be moving back to a 7970 unless I get some comforting info from either Nvidia or Gigabyte with regards to these boost related stutters I'm getting.

in my opinion, yes it is, but in the interests of full disclosure my last 3 or 4 graphics cards have all been nvidia

having said that, if nvidia don't pull their finger out and fix pcie3.0 on X79 I may well switch allegiance out of spite

what is this stuttering and is it only on gigabyte cards.

I have no real aligence - i have owned both manufacturers cards in the past

Its not limited to a certain brand of card afaik its down to Nvidias 'boost' tech.

As the card will only provided higher clocks as and when it needs them it will downclock when not needed, so I'm finding in some less demanding games the clocks fluctuate, resulting in a small frame drop that resembles a slide show.

Not everyone is in the same boat, I was originally very happy with my 670 as I was only testing demanding games and benchmarks. Now I'm starting to question my purchase unfortunately.

670 is comparable to the 7950 not the 7970.

At stock the 670 beats the 7950. Overclocked it's a 2 horse race and it's down to your preference. However, if you're a member on notoverclocking.co.uk go for the 670 :p

Problems atm are stuttering for 670, and crossfire issues for 7950, which are both driver related
