***Official GTX 670 thread***

Dont get me wrong Im very happy with my 670.

However, before I bought it, I did a lot of reading around on performance etc... the general consensus was that a) a 670 wasnt that far behind a 680 and b) it should average 60fps in BF3 quite easily.

Now as I said before the 670 breezes through BF3. However I dont think im hitting 60's... I get lots of tearing with adaptive vsync on, which from what I understand is becuase the fps are below 60's?

But thats not what the benchmarks said!

Settings you running mate? When I run all Ultra, 2xAA @ 1080p FPS doesn't drop below 60.. It goes into the low 60's sometimes though.

Turning everything down to low, Bar mesh at Ultra quality and AA at 4x and it generally stays at 100-120fps :D which is nice on a 120hz display.

edit: my card is oc'd slightly.

Well I have all the settings maxed at 1920x1200.

Smooth as a dogs left testicle.... but I get the occasional screen tear, even with adaptive vsync on. Which from what I understand is becuase i am not hitting 60fps often enough?

Im a bit confused on the adaptive vsync thing actually.

Becuase I thought below 60fps = no screen tear. Over 60fps = screen tear.

But thats not what I read from a mod on an Nvidia forum... you can still get screen tearing even below your monitors refresh rate, supposedly.

Good news is that the beta drivers solved my Metro 2033 stutter I was seeing.

I don't apologize for being brutally honest...that's just my way, but at this point the Nvidia 6 series is a far from polished experience compared to Nvidias normal standards.

It's typical all reviews just harp on about raw performance ignoring the niggles that detract from overall gaming pleasure. I'm sure Nvidia will get it sorted and the sooner the better.

Turn Adaptive AA off the game is triple buffered by default so its not needed, and don't use Deferred AA as it hammers performance on everything. Stick to Post AA and get used to it as normal MSAA is going the way of the dodo due to how modern game engines work.

60FPS at 1080p should not be a problem if you stick to that.

It shouldnt make a difference turning adaptive vsync off surely? Becuase if im not going over 60fps, then its basically as if I dont have vsync on at all...

Sure I could turn msaa down to x2 but fps is not the problem even with x4 msaa its the screen tear that bugs me, as it shouldnt be tearing at all...

Turn msaa off and see if it still tears.

People need to forget about msaa now... It doesn't affect the whole scene due to way modern work and causes stalls in render output.

I've got a 680 and don't use it as it's just not worth the 20-35% fps hit.

my cards arrived

1 boost 1230
2 boost 1200
3 boost 1170

evga FTF :D

How does that Monty Python quote go? "you lucky b..." I can't remember the rest.

Just a little word of advice for anyone who has got an Asus GTX 670 DirectCU ii TOP and a CoolerMaster cm 690 ii advanced case. I've just bought the CoolerMaster GPU/VGA bracket to take some of the stress of my mobo and it doesn't fit due to the card's cooling pipes. Have no fear though. You can make it fit by reversing the bracket's bolt and using a smaller nut... even then it only just clears the edge of the PSU*.

If there's a better way of installing it, I'll update this post accordingly. I might be able to reverse the claw part of the bracket and get it to clear the pipes, if it's asymmetrical.

*Standard PS2 I think. It's dimensions are: 150mm(W) x 86mm(H) x 160mm(L)

look great, whats the top card temps like though?

Temps are currently 42c for the top card and 38c for the bottom.
Hot and humid in my house at the moment.
The spacing on my X58 motherboard is not ideal to say the least but it will have to do for the next a couple of years at least (he says) until I am ready to upgrade my MB, CPU and RAM.
