****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

I see all of the 580s on here have been put up by £10 and they have added a GTX 580 OCUK Value card for £450:eek:

Pretty clever that, hang on to a batch of cards until all the others have sold out, then mop up the few ditherers who will now be thinking they'd better order one or miss out for a fair while. ;)

Can you have a look on the back of your cards and tell me what type of screws you have and what make it is?

Are they all phillips screws like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phillips_head

Or is there a mixture of phillips and Torx screws, torx being this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torx

If you upgraded from a 480 can you also say if the screws on that were also either all philips or a mixture of phillips/torx?

Cheers.

Supply and demand i suppose

Im glad i bought my POV yesterday that reminds me i have to install it in a bit:D

No change of price at a competitor who has cards in stock.

Reading some reviews it looks like an older version of Furmark can be run without throttling, so does that mean that the limiter is also software based as well and that overclocking should work fine as only OCCT and the new Furmark cause throttling?

I think its both. Nvidia will more than likely add driver control, but the card must have a power usage monitor. It seems at somewhere around 300 watt the power control steps in and spoils the fun. So if your app pulls over 300w the card gets down clocked until the power draw is around a 250 watt average from what I can tell, but its also seems to vary between cards, so the system could factor in temps, or manufactures might be able to set parameters.

I don't like the sound of it TBH as you could end up with a card that suffers various levels of speed throttling between games and apps.

Ive just installed my 580 and installed MSI afterburner 2.10 beta 4(latest version)

Ive unlock the voltage control the default voltage for the card is set at 962?

Is this the correct volts as im shocked how low the voltage is compared to my 480,well im sure the 480 had a lot higher voltage?.

Edit: After reading this: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Nvidia-GTX-580-Overclocking-Guide-166351.shtml

It is the correct voltage,im confused at the whole voltage and overclocking of the 580 compared to the 480:confused:

On a side note i cant really believe how quiet the fan is at auto speed its quieter than any custom coolers ive had

Another question if I may... will my Corsair HX620 be enough for a 580? The rest of my system isn't too flash - E8400 @ 3.6GHz, 4GB RAM, standard mobo etc, so I'd have thought so, but I need to be sure.

Extreme (sigh) Power Supply Calculator says I'd be fine with a GTX480 (I assume the 580 would be more or less the same) but for all I know, Extreme (sigh again) Power Supply Calculator is a load of inaccurate poo? Any feedback?

0.962v is the idle voltage. If you get NV Inspector it will show you the voltage when under load.

Did you get yours yet GJ02?
NO...the competitor ( sounds like pan ) messed my order up and said there out of evga stock, when i ordered it was in stock.
now there is ZERO stock everywere
im after evga, asus or msi, just hope they take deleivery tomorro then i can drive down ( 30mins from here ) and have a happy saturday on moh ! and reveal my brandnew sig ! lol
