****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

so i bought a power meter, it arrived today.

Computer idle: 140w.
CPU load: 300w (at 3.5GHz, can turbo to 4.2GHz)
GPU load: 400w :O
during Crysis bench: 420w :O :O

so add my monitor (45w when on), speakers, NAS box and router, i'd guesstimate my computer system would use just over 500w during gaming, 250w idling, and 40w when computer is off.

at least i know there's still 100w of headroom in my Hx620. and it's operating just above optimum load.

I can also confirm after learning all about this flashing the gtx580 is so simple .

I have now unlocked my max voltage setting in the bios :-)

More playing around, Crysis is playable at last. I've found 900/1800/2200/1125mv to be the sweet spot, temps and noise are fine.

@ scaper28 i manage a 965mzh for 3d mark2011 in sli with 1.213vcore and all is fine. With asus you will not lose the warranty for oc your card.

So these online review sites are wrong then in showing the max is 1.150v for ASUS model, unless you go down the route of BIOS edit & reflash?

Well, lucky you then :)

Imo 1.213v with stock cooling is asking for trouble going by some thermal temp pictures floating about, water cooling seems the only way to safely use anywhere near maximum for 24/7 o/c.

Quick bench run then yeah sure why not.

Asus are the only cards in 580 rage withe voltage unlock. For the rest you have to flash the bios with a asus bios( i hope i am right, not sure about evga oc ). For bench i use oc, daily use i use stock for my video cards.

You can use msi afterburner 2.1.0 beta 4 to unlock any 580 for voltage control you do not need to flash the bios.

well...
my fried has a sli of evga 580 and with msi afterburner 2.1.0 beta 4 max v core is 1.138 something like that. He flash the bios with a asus bios and now he can put in his card 1.213v but not before.

According to EVGA forum; max is 1.150v via official update BIOS released since the cards street date to counter ASUS 1.150v, and can be applied via EVGA own BIOS updater tool. Also the un-official 580 supporting BIOS flash tool allows max 1.212v? So, it would 'appear' going from info available; Afterburner is readings max values on some cards wrong...

Not looking for an argument btw, just curious :)

Only thing i can think of is that a flashed the card with the new evga bios that allows the fan speed too drop to 30%,but not sure if it included any other changes?

Standard evga 580 gtx has a maximum of 1.138vcore, after flash you have the 1.3 vcore option.
Can i have the bios file pls? To see if my friend can manage 1.3vcore per gpu.

ps
did you use nibitor?
