A different router probably won't increase your speeds by much unless you also upgrade your wireless adaptor to an AC one.

I get approx 320 Mbps on speed tests with my iPad Air 2 connected to a Netgear R7000 router on the 1 Gbps Hyperoptic service.

I would have had to upgrade my network adapter to AC too so the cost of a new wifi adapter and router. As above i've just gone old skool with cable.

hmmm - ~£312 to upgrade from 100Mb > 1Gb

edit - in the mean time channel bonding has increased it to 75down 50up (802.11n 400mhz)

edit2 - Now properly cabled in and getting 12.4Mbps download speed on the Hyperoptic 100Mb service. This is more than capable of streaming 4K footage. Impressed

Also, a 1GB file downloads in 1:15 min. The 1Gb service would be pointless in my eyes, my hard drive wouldn't even be able to write fast enough! ...then it would run out

What i wish other ISPs would offer is the chance to upgrade your upload speed for a fee. BTs 80/20 package is ok, but some like VM you're talking 10:1 The option to get a 4:1 or 2:1 ratio would be nice, especially if you like uploading YT content or streaming.

not sure if its just a generally ***** bundled modem hyperoptic give with their service or line instability but Ive decided to buy a replacement (preferably from OCUK)

Any other advice apart from Netgear R7000 (don't really want to spend that much but if wifi etc is going to be a lot better then I will)

Did you pull the trigger and change your router? Any feedback?

Tempted to replace the whole unit with a Netgear D7000 (Thread link) when it get released.

I'm thinking of switching to Hyperoptic. I download a lot of movie and tv torrents, and although none of the other ISPs I've had (sky, virgin etc) have had a problem with my torrenting, I'm a bit worried that Hyperoptic might based on what a customer rep said.

Does anyone here who uses Hyperoptic use torrents, and have you ever had a problem? thanks very much

Don't use public trackers.

Oh I don't for the most part, I use private trackers, but figured an ISP can detect torrents regardless of whether its from a public or private tracker? Mostly, ISPs don't care, but since hyperoptic is pretty small, they are an unknown

AirVPN or a good SOCKS5 proxy for your Linux torrent downloads. Job jobbed.

I'm thinking of leaving Sky Fibre for Hyperoptic as it's in my building and they've been spamming our mailboxes with leaflets. Can anyone give any further, up-to-date impressions?

I don't torrent at all. Internet usage is almost exclusively: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Video.

Can anyone who uses those services extensively comment on Hyperoptic? Also, any recommendations as to a 802.11ac router if I do join?

I am still very happy with my Hyperoptic service, have had it for almost 2.5 years now.

There has been very little downtime, only a couple of nights in the past few months but before that I can only remember one bit of downtime that was for scheduled maintenance.

Speeds are consistently high, pretty much only restricted by the site you're downloading from. Gaming latency has been decent too.

I have been using a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk router, although newer models are available now, coverage and speeds have been very fast on tablets and phones, most of my machines are wired.

I have the main supply ethernet cable plugged into the Netgear router and then have the Hyperoptic-supplied Tilgen router plugged in to the Netgear router purely to use the VOIP phone-line.

Hope that helps!

Is it going to save you money?
How well does the Sky connection perform?

In the end I decided to just upgrade to Sky Fibre Pro and cancel the TV services. My main issue was spending £66 / month when we hardly ever use the TV. Now it's £47 for faster Internet. I know hyperoptic is cheaper still, but Sky has been very, very reliable (to my amazement).

I decided to cancel the Sky upgrade during the cooldown, because it's madness to ever be in contract with Sky and I didn't realise I'd be stuck with them for another 12 months. So currently paying £37.40 for 40MB FTTC...looking at Hyperoptic again as they offer no-contract options. Anyone else with views about their speed / reliability? I'm in London. Some of the earlier posts in this thread are not encouraging...

If you can get it, it's awesome.

I'm on 1Gbps, never had any real issues, if you can get it in your flat/building, you'd be a madman to not be using it, the price/performance is way above anything else you can get.

+1 for pretty much all of this. If you can get it, I would highly recommend it.

I've been with them for over 2 years, in 2 different properties. I think I have had about 2 days of disruption in that time.

I'm on 100/100 only (no phone) paired with a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk, with an ethernet splitter to my desk.

Perfect download speeds / latency for gaming etc.

Edit: I'm FTTP (new development with a Hyperoptic contract) and pay £35 p/m (first 3 months were free)

I had a survey and getting them to cable in a way that hides the wiring might be expensive...I've been quoted £60/hour. Still interested in the 100MB. Anything wrong with the supplied router? I would be using CAT5 for the heavy data devices and wireless for the lighter stuff.
