**Official MikroTik Hardware **

Yeah sorry I was hypothesising if you plug the white power supply in and the pin was wobbly, the socket from the link above would solve that problem for 80p
So the Burning question is, did it work or not ?
Yes no disconnections from a few tests that I have done. But saying that, that crappy plug, the pin doesn't fit in the Zyxcel router. Gonna pop into my parent's house and see if I can find a redundant router. Thanks for the help.

You could do that but I wouldn't, yes it may work but the reason not too is that type of power supply will more than likely be noisy which will cause other problems.
Thats why I pointed you towards an old Router power Supply. 1 I know the pin size will likely be correct and 2 will be a low noise power supply designed for that reason.

Code:
Mikrotik SAW30-240-1200GR2A 24v 1.2A UK Power Supply

At a Glance:

    24v 1.2A power supply
    Right angle plug
    DC Barrel Size: 5.5mm(outer) x 2.1mm(inner) diameter
    Polarity: Centre Positive
    UK 3 pin plug

P.S Give 'em a call, they are great people!
Thanks, it's about £15 with vat and delivery. My friend will look if he has spare router plugs. If not I'll probably get this.

Thought I'd dip into here again.
Spent the best part of 3 hours the other evening moving from the default (barbaric) VLAN impleentation (IE not aware - just switch everything) to a "proper" Bridge Filtering = ON setup.

SAFE MODE IS YOUR FRIEND

However I now have both my switches running in what looks to be a more "usual" manner handling VLAN. All so I can drop the odd PVID on a port for one of the kids soon.

Did you try Winbox 4 on linux yet, curious if it's do-able, last time I tried was with Wine which was rubbish!
I've never seen a use case for VLANS in a home setting. If I owned a guest house I would have too I guess. The more I read about people with complex configs having problems the less I want to try it.

I snap'd Winbox in my most recent install. Works fine.
Not tried v4 yet, I don't have time to be a guinea pig for them. Let the die hard fan bois do that and I'll wait until they do a 1.1 release.

@Ad_Augendae I have my main network, a filtered network for the kids and I throw the guests on this as well, I recently needed cabled guest access hence the up shift to a properly filtered setup and the IoT network.

I’m potentially setting up a wireless bridge to another nearby family member so I’ll need to put a WAN connection across my LAN. VLAN is ideal for this as I can then have all the bridge kit on my LAN, have the far end secured with tag only and it means I won’t need a Poe injector as it will come from my main switch to power it.

It is a level of complication you wouldn’t normally go to in a home network but it’s given me huge scope to expand and build in more “cool” stuff.

@Steveocee Yeah I see it's very popular and it seems everywhere you look people are talking about VLANS, If I want privacy I guess for me I would run a vpn to my pc.
Here is another question though. i have a cAP ax with a faster cpu not doing much, would it be possible to setup all the dns on that in caps mode. I know mikrotik does some funky stuff but I've not much idea how to properly implement that.

Edit if I enable remote requests on the cap and give the cAP ax 1.1.1.1 I get a reply from the cap, using torch on my router with a dns filter I see a dns request goto 1.1.1.1
Edit2: I have it all working on the cAP ax quad9 as the secondary and cloudflare as a first on the hAP ax2, both with DoH and adlists working, but is this a sensible option ?

So....
My R210 pfSense as well as it was working has been removed for a R230 running opnSense and it's hideous. Interface feels wrong, can't find anything, 10Gb interfaces just won't come up. Wish I never bothered.

I think I'm coming back home to MikroTik, I need to swap the R210 back in so I can rebuild the R230 onto Proxmox and then I'll spin up a beefy little CHR.

Feel free to watch as I go through more pain lol

I'm waiting for new improvements, I've had it installed from day 1 but still running side by side with Version 3 till I like more what I see.
I do like the new drop-down menus but I think that is going away, well I hope not, at least they should give people a chance to choose their preference etc.
Also I like the dark mode as well. But no not 100% using it right now.

Yeah you will have to get used to using a Frequency instead of a channel, add them manually with this channel guide https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
So for 2.4G use the following etc...
Channel 1 2412
Channel 6 2437
Channel 11 2462

5G Starting Frequency
Channel 36 5180
And so on...

I build a channel list and choose from that as shown here, don't forget to Null everything out and choose channel at the top, same for security etc. hope that helps a little
But you can achieve the same thing in various ways :D

Glad It's all working anyway!
