*** Official Prey (2017) Thread ***

I could not get into SOMA after playing it a few hours. Does it get better? I found Prey to be much better than Alien Isolation also. That game was an 8 for me, where as Prey is more like a 9 or 9.5 :)

You need to stick with SOMA - it's likely you haven't really got into yet as you have no idea what's going on for the first few hours but oh boy does it get better! One of my favourite ever games in terms of story and atmosphere - you'd be denying yourself a great experience if you don't go back to it...

Bought off cd keys yesterday no problem.
Can't wait to play this game, ain't gonna touch it till I finished Witcher 3 so that will be in about 6 months haha.

Why did you buy it for if not about to play? Not like they will be running out of stock :p

In 6 months it will probably be available for much cheaper.

Bought off cd keys and they do have limited stock and is cheaper. Might end up playing it in between the Witcher 3 so I don't get burnt out.

Well to answer my own question, I purchased Phantom Genesis II.

They're permanent and they follow you around which is a big plus.
Downside is that they much so much bloody noise!
But on the upside, when they do die, you get to loot their corpses. :p

Long time since I played a game that I look forward to getting back to.
It can be very frustrating at times with the innumerable amount of keycards, passwords and key codes needed which always seem to be a long way from where you need to use them.
Then there is the bit where there are many many military operators in every room looking to fry you.
But overall a really fun game.

Listening to soundtrack now at work and I am feeling nostalgic already, despite finishing it only few days back. Mark of an outstanding game :)

What were people's thoughts about the graphics? I'm playing this at 4K/60hz with everything high and it doesn't really look like a 4k game...not sure if's the textures or just the fact the game isn't pushing the envelope but it doesn't really pop off the screen.

I know Gameplay is king and the game (only 3 hours in) has been good so far.

I recently completed 80 hours of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 900p/30fps so I'm not a graphics snob.
There's no such thing as a '4k game'. Resolution is quite arbitrary.

But I get what you're trying to say - you expect games played at 4k to look brilliant - but Prey's visuals on a technical level are a tad dated. Its AA solution is effective for the areas that it covers well, but neither resolution nor AA seem to remedy this brand of shader aliasing, meaning that IQ is still a bit lacking no matter that you're playing at 1080p or 4k. Alien Isolation had the same issue. I fear Star Citizen will be the same from what I've seen.

Textures are definitely not pushing resolutions much at all. Ambient occlusion is quite primitive. Shadows aren't all that sharp.

This is not really a game you play to admire the work of a highly competent graphics programming team. But the art style and attention to detail in environmental design are really top-notch, which saves it all for me entirely.

I sold 3 Doom keys to pay for this via Kinguin.net so only got round to buying after the funds cleared as they are held as part of the buyer protection. No problem with that as I obviously buy off them myself plus I could complete Andromeda in the mean time.

Anyway playing on hard to stretch it out as I like the environment and overall polish of the game. Resources are fairly scarce but I'm using the hazards where possible to cause damage and like the simple ability to lock doors behind me! I've just started to return to areas now crossing the facility and realised they repopulate the areas so I'll have to see if that gets annoying.

One thing prey does very well
is making you believe there is only mimics to worry about :D ;D They fast become your least worry..
Speak for yourself. Playing on 'Hard', they are still a major threat to me even a good 30 hours into my playthrough.

The game does throw a lot of seriously dangerous enemies at you, though. You need to get creative to deal with these situations.

Playing hard myself :p
I don't find them a real problem anymore, I even just use my rench on them.

What the hell is with the difficulty ramp in this game?

Im playing on Normal and was doing grand till I hit the deep storage, now suddenly there are INCREDIBLY stronger mimics everywhere and very little in the way of materials.
Currently stuck in the lobby, surrounded by mimics with no ammo for anything, medkits or materials to make anything with. :-/

At this point Im just going to cheat as its ridiculous now.

Sneaky peaky you don't always need to fight head on.. Playing on hard you learn this fast early on.

I'm playing on hard and I've not found it much of a challenge. Maxed out shotgun power, get a 250% damage bonus for sneaky shots and do 150% more damage with some neuromod power.

I can kill a nightmare in seconds....I was expecting a challenge as somebody said resources were scarce but if you've recycle everything there is plenty. I've fabricated tons of mods, ammo and weapon upgrade packs.
