******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Hardly call 17fps smooth

Server FPS, Star Citizen has a max of 30FPS server side, Different to client FPS.

Servers doing 17fps wont matter if client doing 1117 fps it will still lag/ruberband ect as server ain't going quick enough ..

Have you actually played the game ? 17FPS server side is smooth as butter, 30FPS being the max when server meshing is eventually optimized but 17 is still really good. Once it starts to go down to around 7 is when the oddities start.

This would be a welcome change -

sc-testing-chat | Wakapedia-CIG: Last night's build has a test running on 1 shard to spawn players into their hangar instead of the hab when loading in. We have been testing out how well loading into an instance works when joining a shard. If you ran into issues or have feedback on this let us know in the release notes!

So that's them testing the tech which may allow us to spawn in our own base/appartment etc ?

May be temporary while they test I guess.
I be surprised if it makes it to live. This is more of a tech preview test on a feature (like server meshing) to be worked on and released to live 12 months later ish.

In other news the new patch just dropped and they have tweaked the hud and they have overhauled the culling algorithm so that it aggressively cleans up ships and other left over entities left around there to clean those up.

They need to just be bold and release it to live next week regardless of how the EPTU build is like because it doesn't matter if they delay it for another 3 months, it will still be a very unstable live patch. They just need to release it and get the player cuncurreny up. At the end of the day, it's a test. It all is. The word ptu states it. Yes it's a live service but it's still all a test.

This is why I've told real life friends to jump on sc on a 4.x patch because that is the patch that will be a lot more stable and playable for people to get there teeth in.

Thoughts?

At moment it very much feels like it is going backwards tbh. Noting the big part is if they release it to live it will theoretically cost them twice as much in current server capacity. Per server playerbase count has gone from 100 to 50 with SM. The opposite of what they claimed and expected and even tested in the preview channel. This can't be looking good for them and their metrics tbh.

Exactly that. The hangar is just the location they have to test it but when they get to point of bases/apartments the login flow should have been established.

How so? You mean they should have 100 per dgs? Right now they have 6 dgs or more?

They have 10 servers spun up to to run 4.0. 4 for stanton, 6 for pyro. Each server is only 50 people since it's 500 total.

In live you have 1 server for 100 people. If you tool that 1 server amd multiplied to the 10 servers they currently have running Stanton and Pyro that would be 1000 people.

Therefore they are running double the number of servers for the same capacity as pre 4.0 and SM. And thus their server costs are approx double then if they move from their current implementation to 4.0 live.

This obviously long term isn't the goal and dynamic meshing will come but it can't be good for them to be running 10 servers for 500 people compared to 10 servers for 1000 people and can't be what they had intended considering their test servers before had 1500 in 10 servers.
