******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Jaa, anything flyable is flyable, and thats something you otherwise wouldnt be able to fly.
CIG highlighted both of those, i wouldnt have given it a second thought either :D

So much for the Scythe being limited to 500*... it still is, but for whatever reason its available to try in the free fly.

I can see Scythe owners being rather petty about it, not so much Omega owners.

* or however many it was.

Yeah. I've no idea if they could be rented previously, although apparently renting alien ships is now a subscriber benefit? They've brought it up a couple of times on the [Redacted] podcast and not been impressed (but would be okay if they had challenges like the Glaive to still rent em) but they werent entirely sure how it works now and long-term, CIG do like to make things seem one way and then turn around and 'no, this was the plan all along' it, and i could see them doing glaive-like challenges.

They like those subscribers, PDF Mags, Flairs, Give Aways, Badges, Free REC, Direct Communication With Devs......

Ordinary backers get now't.
Its all too much time and resource spent not making a game.

We dont get it? cant speak for everyone, but i definitely get half of those ;)

Im actually leaning more the other way, a lack of value (to me, at least), especially when the vault and jumppoints are made available, the video content is for all etc. I'd rather they did a $10/mo opt-in scheme with no benefit other than adding $10 to your account, that i could get behind (and do manually, i know) and potentially use, but not $10 for a model and maybe ask a question etc

Most of it isnt any impact on the development though, the models are out-sourced, art work is being made regularly (i recall the UK guys being asked to contribute more, and them being like 'oh, sure' and putting tons up to be selected by LA), and im sure a lot of it helps drive lore which the game uses too. The models, while 'pointless' now are going to be needed to fill the universe too, try new things and up their game. These new plants, supposedly some will 'dance' and have animations, motorised rotation, AR implementation etc. Not ground-breaking stuff, but stuff they need for tons of eventual content, but i see it like the commercials, they had their purpose and were fun novelty pieces, and when their time was needed for proper tasks they were comfortable with things and now we likely wont see new commercials for quite some time.

Buying ships after all is just to support the development, you'll be able to get them easily enough when the game is released so there's nothing to get mad about.

It's free fly.. tbh Scythe has always been an option for subscribers to rent anyway, it's not even a good ship.

If they did it with the 890Jump you can bet there would be a riot as owners of that are obsessed with ensuring it's never on sale again.

why does the updater just stop on its own??
left it this morning before work, came back to nothing downloading and 20 gb still to go! does this every time to me.. I have to sit there and babysit the updater!

It did that to me once, but not since..... it should be ok.

Yeah, that wasnt really my view, it was just a follow-up to the omega being AMD exclusive, i think if anything is seen as controversial it'd be the Scythe, at least to those who own one. I cant imagine anyone with an Omega cares at all really, the people that seem to value their Omega do so because of it being rare and cant be bought in-game (gamma + 1 system upgrade should match it though). The Scythe is rare and going to be hard to get hold of one, and you cant just take a cheap common ship and have the same thing. A free-fly doesnt change either of those, but it'll bother some people i suspect.

I just has a go in the Omega, i have not flown it in combat for a long time.

Its really not bad, the M3A's do the job, they are fixed but it doesn't mater, its so agile the whole ship is a gimbal.
You can make yourself a very difficult target to hit, and you'd need to, for all practical purposes it has no shields and a paper hull.

Still, if you can avoid getting hit its ok.

I wonder if any dual stick / hotas users could help me?

I've decided to give dual sticks a go. I'm going to have to do some serious desk modification to get them installed lol.

I've never used these before, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me an idea of where the surface that the joysticks are sat on should be?

If the shelf for the joysticks was inline with my armrest / elbow, is that likely to make the joy stick uncomfortably high?

Depends on sticks and yourself mate. My T16000M and CH Pro throttle are on the same level as my elbow and fine, I'd prefer them to be an inch lower and when I do get around to making flip out holders for them I'll drop them a little.

Just for ideas: http://imgur.com/a/GtHBT
