******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Got to give them credit the patcher is absolutely maxing out my broadband lol
Yeah, the patcher used to max out my BT 76Mb connection, then I got Hyperoptic 1Gb like 2 weeks ago... only half maxes it out lol, top speed I've noticed was 440Mbps / 55MB/sec.

I found this video today on youtube of multiplayer, really very cool tbh:

'10 for the Chairman' (Episode 80) with Erin has some good info. Implementation of persistence, alpha UEC (alpha test currency) and procedural generation are getting closer.

Sounds good :)

Tim it might run it but to be honest I wouldn't worry too much about an upgrade until we've a firm date for moving to beta or seeing the single player game (Squadron 42) come out, multiplayer persistent universe is still a looooong way off IMHO :)

How did I miss the existance of this until now?

I have a bad feeling it would eat my GTX 560ti for lunch and spit out 4fps!

With the way it is at the moment people with Titan-X's aren't going to get a lot more FPS than you.
Very early Alpha, still worth playing tho :)

I enjoyed Erin doing the questions, and yeah he does talk faster. :D

:D he looked nervous.

Ahh ok, thanks, was literally browsing the forum for the FM2016 thread, saw this and perked, is it paid Alpha or open right now? Read through the first page or so, but at work so can't browse the whole thread till later on!

Alpha still mate, up until Feb 2016 a $45 pledge got you single and multiplayer, now it's split into two games essentially though.

First part of single player is excepted out this year (no guarantee) with multiplayer out next year-ish. However we're already playing several multiplayer elements in a test mini-universe where nothing is persistent, so it's just a colossal mess around area, surprisingly good fun as Humbug will attest lol

Also worth adding that, yeah its paid alpha, but unlike the vast majority, CIG have done a lot of regular free-fly weeks (Fri to week-Mon usually) where you just need to create an account and thats enough to give it a try. Its a 30gb download, and each monthly update has basically involved downloading 25+gb because of the way the files are updated in 2gb PAK file if 1 file needs changing, you need to download it. Thats something they're working on improving currently, and i heard a little about whats going on during a tour of their Manchester studio, although i dont think anything was hush-hush, more explaining the issues and their options to us.

That said, with an old GPU you are going to struggle, but as long as downloading 30gb isnt a real PITA for you, i think getting to see some of it in-person even at low FPS is worthwhile. If you go into the mini-PU (MMO-to-be) and just jump into someone elses ship, get a feeling for the sort of stuff thats actually happening around you, even at 5fps, its pretty special.

Having a look at some of the decent videos out there will give you a better idea of the state of the games playability though.

You might be lucky and find someone who is able to buy back an earlier pledge for a starter ship with both games in one that can be gifted to you, although it might cost you $45 as Halfmad has suggested.

Yeah, thats what ive done. I 'banked' 4 basic starter packages (2x Aurora LN, 2x Mustang Alpha) just in case anyone in our communities missed out. Not interested in making money, just handy to help someone out.

Its $54 ($45 + 20% VAT) which is ~£37.50, and thats both games, and a ship to entry level ship to fly, the rest of the games ships you can earn in-game later on, or even work towards renting them by playing some of the game modes.

Spend some time on youtube and asking questions here about it, and even wait till a free-fly. I think they'll be plenty of people selling 'dual-packages' but away from here i wouldnt fancy your chances of getting it at cost.

edit - i'll also pimp my SC info dump here too: http://mercury-rising.enjin.com/starcitizen
It'll be getting relocated in about a month as we're leaving enjin and im building our own site from scratch (admittedly looking almost identical to our enjin site, but 100% build from scratch).
The first 2 tabs, 'About Star Citizen' and 'Careers' are worth a look though IMO. Once im done on the new site i'll be expanding it further, but nothing important or intended to really pull visitors, just cos i find out new stuff or remember forgotten things when looking for a certain topic.

Can they be gifted immediately, or is there a cool off period? I say this as I've got a Scout LTI (Aurora MR) sitting in buyback that is only 31.85 euros and I'm happy for someone to have it at that price; can you pay via paypal as well as I can't remember...

Im not sure about the situation with buy-backs, but back in August a mate sent me 'gift vouchers' immediately after purchasing them, and i couldnt 'melt' it, which is how you use it (so its basically a $xx item like any other), for 24hrs.

31 euros for any package with SQ42+SC is decent though, let alone having LTI attached to it. I was going to say +20%... but i guess you dont have that issue in NZ :D

Nope, outside of Country = VAT (equivalent) free :-)

Perhaps we should have an update on the front page for those people who have buy backs that they're willing to on sell at no cost to the community? I'm happy for someone here to have my older stuff!

I could update the thread but doubt the mods would like it, would arguably be best to do it person to person and keep OCUK out of it - we'd need to check first, that's what the members market is for. I wouldn't see harm in it if no profit making is involved e.g. melt value = paypal gift value traded but mods might think differently :)

Happy for folks to do this on the PAGAN forum obviously at their own risk if OCUK one isn't suitable, or indeed anyone elses forum. The star citizen trade subreddit can be quite hit and miss for buyers and almost never at cost which is why I'm not suggesting it !
