******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

So I have done it, I have gone and brought the Nox. Motorcycle riding/racing is my other passion to gaming/hardware. The Nox for all that seems to fit that want to race fast about the planet and enjoy some of the in game racing that will be there later. The fact that it has lifetime insurance and current reduced price is something I couldn't say no too.

Only got the Aurora MR starter pack from 2014 and this so only £60 in the game.

I really haven't done much in the SC PU so far and haven't even flown my current ship so no idea on scale. Is it large enough with the 4 slot cargo hold (as described) to fit something like the Nox in the back. Do I need to upgrade it to carry the Nox and if so what are the options?

The Aurora will come with a cargo box that slots under the ship, its not going to work for carrying other craft, no matter how small.

The smallest cheapest thing you could get away with is the Cutlass Black @ $120 or the Freelancer @ $132

I have the Freelancer and would be happy to upload a short visual aid for you.

Edit... the first ship in this is the Freelancer, thats what it looks like from the outside, it should give you a sense of scale, if you want to see the inside i'm happy to do something like that.

The other one is a Hornet F7C, you get that on loan with the Freelancer for free because the Freelancer is too big for the Arena Commander part of the game.

Cheers for all the awesome info Humbug :)

Would the DUR variant still have the space in the cargo compared to the standard as the additional fuel, scanner & jump drive seem like a good shout.

Certain I prefer the current Freelancer to the Cutlass. However it does appear the Cutlass Black is cheaper and comes with the more expensive hanger? It is meant to be cheaper to operate and I suppose I could upgrade to the Freelancer from the Cutlass if I don't like it? Although looking on the website while typing this and looking up the Cutlass, it appears they have done a pass on the Cutlass to make it larger than it was?

The Freelancer is a cargo hauler, the DUR and other variants are versions with addons, like the ones you describe, what you can put into the back of them remains the same, or its more on higher end ones.
Right now only the Base Freelancer is flyable, the one i linked, which ever one you buy for now until the rest are complete its the one you will get to fly, The flyable one also doesn't look like that, its been revamped since then and the video i'm linking below, others are hanger ready so you will get the old versions of those for your hanger as well as the flyable one.

If you get the cutlass first (which is also undergoing a revamp) and you want to upgrade to the Freelancer you can do it one of two ways, #1 melt it and get your money back as store credit which you can use to add toward buying the Freelancer.
Or you can use the Ship Upgrade system to upgrade to the Freelance by paying the difference.

If you get the Freelancer first, the more expensive ship you can melt that and use credit for the Cutlass, but your change will be in store credit.

Give me half an hour or so and i'll have a short video on the Freelancer. :)

Here is the officially Commercial for the Freelancer.

Edit: the Cutlass comes with the industrial hanger, which is a hanger in a space cave while the Freelancer comes with the Aero View hanger, one is not better than the other just different so it depends on personal preferences.

Thank you very much for the excellent information and explanations to it all. I don't mind having store credit later as I am sure there will be more that I purchase later now that we are at this stage.

Thank you for sorting video out and look forward to checking it out :), it is most appreciated.

No Problem... the vid is uploading now... its bigger than i thought it would be, 8GB for 5 minutes :D it'll actually be about 2 hours or a bit more :)

No worries, am sure it is worth it :) really appreciate your help. I have been avoiding looking at ships before because of what level SC was at. Now I am feeling it is reaching a direction I will be in the game (3.0 in August my bet) I am happy to put some more cash into it.

There are 5 of us that will be looking to get into at same time that live local so going to make a small org I think to do things like run a racing team if possible and go explore for hidden races (assuming that will be a thing).

Edit: Shame can't split the package of 5 Nox ships so I could gift a couple. That would have been handy. I might still buy a 5 pack to then allow me to upgrade 3-4 of them (may keep one of each colour variant) and that way can get LTI on 3-4 ships later on :)

This is the first game I would have ever spent monies in game like this. I don't really even buy expansion packs or similar in honesty. I think I will not spend more than £400 though in total and I assume that you can't melt once Beta is released thus meaning that I would have to buy all my upgrades in one go pre Beta.

Hmmm do I think I would really get that many ships :/ maybe I just go for a twin pack then to get the other ship with the LTI when I upgrade.

Hmm £27.84 per Nox if 5 pack or £33.60 per single one. £5.76 saving per ship from a £ ship :/ but as saying saving plus free LTI although also loose the upgraded hanger if going for say a cutlass? This gets complicated in options quickly and then becomes frustrating.

OK so yeah, talking to a few of the guys. They are up for making a race team so we are thinking 2 bikes for the races, a ship to transport and 2-3 fighters to protect us as we travel from race to race.

So with that our fleet would be based on those ideas. Thoughts on doing this? We assume we are going to be able to colour our ships etc in team colours and add logos etc. Maybe even get sponsorship and create an actual team depending on what CiG do with this side of things.

caterpillar would be awesome for transporting a racing team

+1...

Also, i don't know this but perhaps when the game is complete if you find a planet or moon with an area unclaimed you maybe able to setup there permanently, put structures up and build a permanent track in the landscape.

Then, moving things around become less of an issues, you would only need to import craft to their permanent home.

Anyway... Freelancer... that Rear Turret, always wants to be the centre of attention.... :p
1440P should be encoded soon.

Edit: someone seems to be racing around Olisar...

Am on way out office but will check out when home and the idea of a race HQ with workshop, pits & track would be epic and certainly something would be interested in setting up one way or another.

Will check out the Caterpillar later as well then. I am hoping to team manage it and race one with the others being support, mechanic, race organiser and 2nd race pilot basically. :) Oh this is going to shape up well hopefully. Not like we can't do small mission and our own thing out of race season either ;)

Just watched video and its awesome :) do really like it. The caterpillar is also an epic lookibg ship. It does look like you could get two Nox in thr Freelancer but the turret comes down in the hanger storage zone based on your video :/

Am thinking then getting the Caterpillar, two fighters, maybe three for defence when going to other planets to race as although will hopefully set up own hoping we could have a season like Motor GP where you fly to races on other planets/solar systems.

And maybe the repair ship for while we are out and about depending on how that works.

Not sure what else you may need in a race fleet. Of clurse we would have two Nox bikes for racing. So yeah thoughts on ships for flight. We would have 3 ships from switching the Nox for and then 2 Box as comes with package.

Then got my starter Aurous I can switch out so 4 ships in total to select. I think my budget might need to expand to more like £1k or so though haha.
