What don't you get that frontier might be testing features that it has already announced that they will happen? The difference is that when Frontier reveals them it will mean that they are actually 6 months at most from being fully released. I know shocking...
How can you not compare 2 companies making a space game announced at around the same time utilizing the same crowdfunding platform? It literally doesn't get any closer than this.
Honestly the differences are so numerous I can't be bothered to list them whilst on mobile.
They both share the same funding model as Oculus rift, doesn't mean they are compatible as VR devices.
It's like comparing FIFA 18 and John Maddens football. they represent entirely different visions and mechanics.

So the base building side has been announced and the Pioneer revealed. It looks like a giant 3D printer to produce modules for habitation. Certainly interesting and I personally think it is pretty awesome.

like the idea don't see why you'd want to own one though. Rent it from another player would make sense although someone in the org has bought one anyway.
slightly worried about your claimed area behind protected by the UEE from the wording I've seen it creates a firearm prohibition area so you can't be attacked. Care bear zone essentially.

My understanding was it is more like the local police turning up. Bearing in mind that only applies to the UEE space as well. I also think it's more to do with the defined area you can build on land. Will need more details later on. I don't see Care bear zones happening as they have already suggested that wouldn't be the case in game and that although you could shot someone anywhere in the PU you really don't want to do it whilst planet side in a large hero landing as you wont get very far.
And in terms of owning one, depends on how it works. A large Org owning it makes sense, owning one and running a crew for others to rent makes sense etc. It can be a career where for instance (since I work in Architecture/Structural Engineering) I could role play being a construction manager and utilise my design abilities to create people workable homesteads.
