******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Tony I wouldn't bother mate, there's trolled in here every few weeks prodding for a reaction. Most of them don't follow the game and it shows in their posts, the few who do are just misguided individuals who seem to think we can't possibly take critisism of CIG or the project
Not really, I mean exceptions are there but most of star citizen community is considered to be a cult. They have more in common with a cult than a fanbase. Kudos to Chris Roberts for creating that to be honest.

Why? most of them openly criticise CR.

By that logic I should assume you are an NZXT and keylogger cult member lol

As an original back from oct 2012 im quite content to forget about the game until its release. I used to avidly follow it for the first few years and now i check back about onve a quarter for updates on how they are getting on.

If i speak the truth so i think there is some feature creep.... yes. Does part of me wish they had released squadron 42 already.. well yeah. Do i think they have reworked some things over and over.. yes Do i understand and appreciate the scale of what they are doing and the tech behind it.. yes

However....i have waited this long and i am happy to wait until its done and im still relatively stoked for the game. If they took 2 years or 7 years as long as its good i dont really care much.

Actually while i agree CIG was overly optimistic with their dates before i think they are settled in now with the workflow, and after 3.0 they will keep up the pace.

Also i still don't get it why people say "It's taking sooo long"
5 years for an MMO + a single player from an indie developer. They started from zero, and had to build up the company as well, not just the game. 5 years is the same time ME:A or GTA5 spent in development, and they are just single player games made by established studios.
The other thing seems quite interested, many times people bashing SC for taking so long while giving the thumbs up for Cyberpunk 2077 which was announced the same year as SC, and the only thing we know is they are aiming to release it between 2017-2021....for a single player game made by an established studio again. It also shows how easy is to set up release dates, when they left a 4 year window for themselves.

Personally I still look forward to the game but the amount of attention i give it has significantly dropped in the last year. I used to watch a lot of their video content but have pretty much stopped completely (mostly due to my belief that too much focus is put into this content, its bias towards marketing and partly due to the lack of tangible progress this year in terms of patches).

Its should be obvious to any level headed individual who has followed this project with moderate interest that CIG have mismanaged the project in a number of ways. The most glaringly in timescales, development priority, reworking large parts of the engine, community management, etc.

I'm in no doubt that the people who work at CIG are in the main are very talented but i remain skeptical about the project until real tangible progress can be shown.

Fixed

I agree, clean is one thing, gold plated is another...

I'm not happily playing anything, every time I try it out it seems to crash and it seems limited in what I can do...I had a choice of 2 missions and no idea what I was supposed to do...I need a tutorial.

There was a in-game tutorial about a 18 months ago but it got shelved due to changes in the game and we haven't seen it since, there are plenty of video tutorials on youtube that should help you however.

If you lot bought into the game thinking its anything like the finished product then frankly i have no sympathy for you.

2.6 is just a tech demo put there to give backers something to do, it takes time to build the tools, infrastructure and assets, 3.0 is the base of what Star Citizen will be but even that is only the start, Game development is difficult, time consuming and expensive, especially on this scale.

Star Citizen is certainly proving that. I bought into it with the expectation that I would get a tech demo, with bugs etc but presumed that there would be actually something to do certainly by now at least.

Even after all these years there is still nothing to do and it's defensible. I install it everytime I see its been updated only to find engine updates, bug fixes, visual changes and 9000 new youtube videos being watching by a load of pubeless screaming fanboys that show the next ship that you charge to your credit card

How the hell people can spend hundreds of hours and pounds on this is beyond me, it's just like walking around the same room constantly for no reason in different pair of shoes and claiming it's enjoyable.

Well, there is fun to be had, but mostly you have to make it for yourself. Playing the PU on your own gets boring very quickly for sure. I enjoyed racing for a while, never been that much into dog fighting as I've not bothered to put the time in to become any good. A bit of Vanduul swarm every now and then is good though.

Its not really a "game" you can get hooked on and play regularly atm (Unless you like trolling around with mates in a big sandbox), I tend to just install at major patches, play with a mate messing around, normally "get back in" to racing and or fighting for a bit, then get bored and uninstall and wait for next patch.

I've taken a step back from following the game over the last year or so. The wait is a lot easier when you just check in every quarter or so lol. The progress has been disappointing in my view since 2.0 came out, but it is what it is, I feel 90% sure there will be a sweet game at the end, so I guess I can wait.

it's called playing with friends. The alpha would be dull without people to play with. IF you actually have an account you should pop in when 3.0 comes out and play with us.

I bought into this game back in mid 2013 when the 300i video came out. What sold me was: MMO, everyone on the same global server, no loading screens, a huge huge game world, a way to really live out that Star Trek/Wars fantasy in a game, multiple play modes (mainly: FPS, racing, exploring, dogfighting). Since then there has been many more features put forward.

Bored of pretty much all modern games being just the same old repetitive gameplay with a different or new skin etc.

I've played and beta'd MMO games on and off for the last 12+ years so I full well understand why SC will take a very long time to make this game, I mean compared to all other previous MMO's this game should take bare minimum 20 years to make, yet instead it'll probably be released within 10 years. People should not complain as CIG is literally trying to create the best game of all time, and then people will realise how much publishers have held back the power of PC gaming for far too long. If CIG can't create such a game then every gamer should just quit moaning about anything of anything of other newer games because there will never, ever be any better games - might as well quit gaming and find another hobby.

You and many other zealots are part of the reason why 5 years and $160m later, this game has yet to reach alpha state.

Until they show actual gameplay, nothing is groundbreaking n no tech is being moved forward.

This reads exactly like a Derek Smart post, reading to much of DR DR DER SMUR PHD Zethor?
