******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

All these ships that cost real money (large or small amounts) are going to be free when the full games released right ?? They aren't actually keeping this ridiculous 'pay for every ship' pricing model for the full game surely ? Its just for eager beavers who want early access to them, right ?

at release everything is free to earn, you can buy game cash with a limit each month (help put off gold farmers) and subscribe if you want daft cosmetic items which are fluff. ships etc are all attainable with the base game and even if you own ships you still need to wait for them being replaced upon destruction, theft etc it's not instant but will have a reduced time if you pony up in game money.

there will be micro transactions of some kind and expansions later but what those are exactly haven't been ironed out.

Cool. Thanks for the information. Good to know everything decent will be unlockable via the grind (not arsed about cosmetic stuff etc)

One of the Eurogamer comments on the latest pay-real-money-for-a-thing-that-doesn't-exist-yet sums it up for me: "This will either be the best game ever made or the best scam ever pulled."

So insightful, would you like to actually add something to the topic for once rather than floating in, spewing out a quote and disappearing for weeks/months like you usually do?

I don't get the cry about the land marker sale.
Even if there will be just 10 planets at the start and someone spends thousands to buy up land theres a godd chance you won't encounter their land for weeks playing, as millions of landclaims can be put even on a small moon.

I do think the land claim sale was a terrible idea, not because selling them in general is a bad idea, but they must have known how bad the publicity from this would have been? They could have easily waited a year or two and sold land claims once the game is further along, rather than now which is probably one of the low points of star citizens reputation outside of those following the game closely... Even if they had waited untill after 3.0 was out to everyone, then that would have helped.

Are they going for the all publicity is good publicity thing?

I just think it's daft in general tbh it's not as if you can meaningfully used them at launch due to having to prospect/research or you risk getting terrible plots. I'm not a fan of the mechanic of providing UEE protecting via this begin either.

Just read on DSOGaming that there adding micro transactions in 3.0??? I hope this isn’t right, I have spent the last couple of years defending this game when people say ‘it’s a cash grab’ and a ‘scam’, but if they are adding this then I don’t really have a leg to stand on.

I have faith it’s going to be a masterpiece of a game, and I fully understand the current business model of selling ships to fund the games development, but I was under the impression that once the game goes ‘live’ all that stops

Every mention of 'microtransactions' is just stirring by websites to get some clicks
One, it's the same as the sales of all other concepts they've done
Two, it's hardly a 'micro' transaction
Three, it's not going to be live during the released game

why not back up your disagreement with facts or opinions of your own?
the thread is here feel free to go back and look at his previous posts. Personally I have better things to do. This is meant to be a discussion about star citizen, nothing else. If you actually read the thread you'd know I actually agree with what he's posted but would like him to actually engage with the thread rather than hit and run.

Does that somehow make me the baddie?

I noticed some comments a few pages back about land deeds. I think its important to recognise that these would be better described as protection grants on an area off land in the UEE. You can use land without doing so, you just wouldnt receive NPC protection and a hostile invader would not be made a criminal for also using that land you're on. And it only works in UEE Space.

I'm hoping they make sure that players cannot claim land in iconic areas (earth for example, or even all of the SOL planets) and not within a large diameter of existing NPC infrastructure (for performance reasons)

So what's everyone been buying during the anniversary sale so far?

I've added a Super Hornet and Vanguard Warden to my hanger, nice additions to my Connie Andromeda and Sabre. My hanger is beginning to look quite respectable!

Eyeing up a Freelancer variant next, not sure which one to go for though.

I understand CIG's strategy to take in more cash with the land buying sale, I'd rather wait until I've experienced the PU and can make a conscious decision on which "property" to buy for my hanger, quite like the idea of an asteroid base/hangar outside UEE space so Big Brother can't track my activities as easily.

I'm not 'investing' anything more now, already have an Avenger, 325a, Connie and one of the little RSI ground vehicles for the connie... I'm tending to melt and purchase with what I need; I luckly have a lot of ships that where LTI so can rebuy those and then upgrade from there so all the vehicles are LTI'd.

Org doesn't seem to have changed many ships for a change. I've ditched the Glaive and BMM for a Hammerhead but the others seem to have more or less stuck with what they had. We haven't bought land claims, doubt we'll bother.

Does the org track the ships members have as I probably haven't updated it if its a manual process... I look forward to stepping on to the hammerhead when the model is ready, I quite like that type of ship!

No we're pondering how to do it best to be honest. I'm still hoping spectrum add it so members can allow orgs to see their ships (or not) and it'll sort of tally up what the org has.

That was the original plan for Spectrum in 2014 but it never seems to progress much

There's a couple looking at potentially making a site for us to use but it feels like overkill tbh!

I didnt spend any mone but changed a bunch of packages around.
Got the base game + SQ42 package with mustang
A carrack (which i believe comes with a rover+snub despite not being listed)
and the Gladius.

I might put a few extra quids in and bump the gladius up so i've got a single top end heavy hitting solo fighter. Super Hornet, Sabre, maybe hurricane but for now I'm happy with what I have.

I upgraded to the carrack from the constellation. Carrack seems to be my perfect ship though moves slightly away from solo play (which is what I want TBH).

None of my org mates went for a land grab but one guy got the pioneer which comes with one.

Yes, I have a Carrack also but am troubled by this land sale, I feel it is a step too far and moves heavily away from the solo player being a viable choice. I may look to refund now which I never thought I would do.
