******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I played it for an hour and a half last night, no crashing, apart from frame rate dipping whenever someone spawned a large ship performance was good, nice and smooth, yeah, it was enjoyable.

Good load balancing on the CPU, that's good to see as it has up until now been 100% on one thread.

People still hoping, wishing and defending this game? The lawsuits are going to be epic!

What Lawsuits? look above you, i'm standing on one of Crusaders moons, its where i came from.

CIG are gradually delivering on their promises.

Would be if I had any faith they can come through with even half of what they've talked about.

64Bit precision allowing for millions of KM 3D space: Done.
Procedural celestial bodies to land and walk on: Done.
Real time transitioning from space to Planet, no Load Screen: Done.

What else was there?

I'll just leave this here for you to gawk at.

Available to the public?

Yes :) It's out for everyone now. Their site isn't updated so it still says 3.0 but will patch to 3.1.1 for all.

Actually release a game that's buyable and playable?

I can completely understand your frustration given the sheer amount of shoddy games/unfinished crowd funded games we have had over the past years. However one way SC has massively differentiated itself from those titles is by their still continual updates, transparency and community interaction. They keep us up to date with everything, including all of their problems and issues they are encountering giving us real reasons as to why things get delayed.

Crowdfunding started in 2012, after a very short spout of development to prepare something for us to see and didn't ( in my opinion ) reach full scale production until mid/late 2016. The reason i say this is because the first few years were spent quite focused on building tools/programs and pipelines that made production efficient and high standard. If you have payed any attention over the last year you will see just how fast this is now starting to progress. With another large feature set targeted to come out at the end of June (3.2) with another two large updates 3.3/3.4 planned for this year Q3 & Q4.

Now i can see why it looks like im completely defending star citizen with this post and to a degree i am as i am looking at it from a different perspective than yourself, however i can say that i am saying all of this as a person whom took more than £1000 back from CIG with a huge refund that they happily gave to me without any issues i did this because i was slightly frustrated at their lack of progress and buyers remorse. However i can honestly say they have come absolute leaps and bounds since i had that refund and clearly have a good momentum going.

Looking forward to the next couple of years.

EDIT : Also i know from our few play sessions together that you are a fan of the division. I can honestly say for me the division was a more unplayable broken mess than SC is currently and as we know the division didn't launch in beta/alpha it was a "polished" AAA game. Below is a video of what my game play experience was with the division at launch, this issue persisted for me and thousands of others for months!

Skip to 3mins15 for when it starts.

I changed the audio via you tube as their was probably a lot of swearing in the original.

It's almost like building several studios from scratch, building technology that's not been done before and building one of the largest and most detailed games takes time? Never mind that they're technically making two games.

I mean surely they could have just slapped that together in a few months.

I'm far from their biggest supporter but even I can see it would take a few years to get their feet on the ground with everything. I would fully expect production to ramp up over the next year or so.

Oh I agree Dave but the amount of money they've had pumped in means I think, although not being knowledgeable on game development, they should have something more substantial to show. And stuff they created 6 years ago would likely have been scrapped and had to be redone by now. I suspect they won't have produced half of what they said they would by the time the money runs out and they have to release or fold.

Is there any news on a target date for Squadron 42? It seems to keep getting mentioned but not much more.
I wanted to start with Squadron 42 before playing the open universe bit.
Andi.

I'd be interested in this too - Squadron 42 looks pretty decent from the above video!

I wanted to try this out a bit further but cant get the game to see my ch fighter stick and ch throttle as two devices and thus cant use them.

If i set them in control panel as if one device from what ive read you lose some functionality ?

any way of sorting this? they work fine when i played elite.

you can use then as is but will need to figure out binding stuff. it's horrid tbh I have given up on binding my Ch pro throttle and CH combat stick for now. works ok as single device too, can't think of any useful things you'd lose tbh but I would avoid it is it's fine in elite. no point screwing it up.

EDIT. Note to self : Don't use the ingame screenshot due to some slight fuzziness in dark shots ( the ground on surface on screenshot number 3 )
