******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

The frame rates are bad, there is reason for it, even tho its only a tiny fraction of what will eventually be its still 950,000 KM from one side of the map to the other (Celin to Delemar) the actual 3D area with the Stanton star in the middle more is like 10m KM.

With that the whole thing has real time Day Night Cycles so everything in the Stanton system revolves around the star, EVERYTHING, in turn every moon and every rock revolves around every planet, that includes you and whatever planet or moon has you in its gravity wake.
That in its self is a huge amount of positional math for the CPU to crunch, on top of that you have every player and every human and NPC controlled vehicle....

Right now your CPU is crunching all of that math constantly, this is where bind culling and object streaming comes in, its where the system knows what is relevant to you and ask only what is relative to you from your CPU cutting down on a huge amount of unnecessary CPU cycles.

That #### is really really really difficult, but its coming, soon.

In the mean time, if you don't like 7 to 11 FPS get a proper CPU, one that can handle it much better... 4 core peasants :p

Harry and Raumarik get it :D

This is the thing. People are crying out for an epic space game, not a universe simulation. If you're going to suspend reality long enough to believe dog fights in space are viable and light based projectiles move at subluminal velocity you can sure live with rough approximations, a bit of smoke and mirrors and an actual finished game to play.

That's my SC rant done for this year, see you all next year :p

@d_brennen the laws of physics don't "rough approximate" your position relative to the planets surface or the planet to our local star, for good reason, if it did you're in a lot of trouble.

as someone that doesn't know very much about this game, looking at all the screenshots posted above everything looks very barren. are there plans to implement plants/moons with wildlife/vegetation?

They are moons, other than perhaps Daymar which does have a very thin atmosphere, but is still a desert moon, actually its surface is a lot like Mars.

The game will have rich vegetated planets, and city plants... its all in development at the moment.

They did do a demo a couple of years ago, it was actually a planetary tech demo before we had it in game, it features a small planet that is little more diverse to what we have now.......

Never then :( you've cursed it, it's all your fault from now on andi!

You see they will keep getting money after release, this has always been the plan.
I can't imagine 'many' people will buy it after release as anyone interested surely has helped with investment to date.
I honestly believe the approach they are taking to try to do it all is a mistake. They have too much money to allow them to what they want though.
Andi.
