******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Edward if in doubt, wait until release which is likely 18 months away for single player and 2 years + for multi player, hopefully less on both of those I guess..

Sadly some people will do anything for a bit of reddit karma or just to break the news to friends. They should tighten down on the subreddit, could do with a couple more active mods too.

Every game that I've played where the players were key to making decisions gradually went downhill and even when players themselves saw it happening their individual decisions were so self serving they just sped it up.

Good example is Dark Age of Camelot, each class had a rep who'd file a report on the state of the class every few weeks with suggested tweaks, buffs and changes. Now obviously this means every class rep will try to boost their class over others and they'd be backed up by fanboys of that class, all being very vocal where as lesser supported classes slowly lost traction as they weren't flavour of the month amongst players.

The end result was a complete imbalance of classes in a game which only functioned properly when there was a vague feel of balance, absolute balance wasn't possible but at launch and early game it was fairly close, that all went out the window.

Ultimately players trashed the later versions of the game in favour of low level battlegrounds where the changes to classes were less relevant and "classic" server versions of the game.

TL;DR - CIG need to make the decisions and listen very little to the community when it comes to ship v ship balance and PC v NPC economic balance. We cannot be trusted with it.

I think it's great but I'd be screaming at it for taking too long unless it was the door to a mission objective.. where one slow door wouldn't bother me.

Doors should however open quickly, if they don't then they're doing a lot of their job badly!

Polaris being offered at Citizencon allegedly, wonder how they'll do it. A free for all, limited etc?

Not even sure I'll get to watch citizencon with you lot on teamspeak as per tradition, likely be away on hols! :(

He's trying to avoid delays, changing engine now may introduce some unforeseen issues which push SQ42 back and since it's likely behind already that's not something he's going to be keen on. At best he'll want his own Cryengine guys to double check, tell him how long it'd take etc.

Alternatively he's going to OK it but doesn't want to until after Citizencon..

Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, That Hamill bloke and now I find out Daniel Craig worked on Star Citizen in 2013!

I've been out of the loop for a long while and looking at all this a few things strike me.

If the goal posts are constantly moving and they're using the ever increasing funding to open new studios and make new features and what not, where is the profit? By this point, won't the majority of those who will play SC have invested by now? Surely, the end result for this is that they've all been paid a salary, from the crowd funding, to make a game and ultimately, there's very little profit?

It seems to me, unless I'm missing something, that they'll be eternally stuck in a system of needing crowd funding to start any projects as they won't have enough cash reserves to do it off their own backs. Unless of course they hit it big with micro transactions.

I'd love some insight from those of you who have followed this more closely than I.

Roberts is pretty savvy, he's building something that will fund itself long term and be a valuable IP. unlike wing commander, he owns the rights to this one entirely.

There's definitely a very real risk of them running out of money before the game is finished, no doubt about that.

I'm a little concerned about Roberts tbh, he's got a bit of Molyneux about him. People like that with grand visions should stick to being creative director and they need a producer who is equally senior and can reign them in and concentrate on getting a finished product out the door....seems with CIG Roberts is king and expects to be surrounded by yes men.

But....despite this, the game does seem to be making good progress. I'm hopeful....and patient :)

Won't run out of money, personally more of a worry that is damaged by SQ42 being a flop. A lot hinges on its success, big name stars don't really mean much if gameplay is linear and dull.

Time will tell though.

Ships balance hasn't been addressed, they've mentioned that a few times, also many of the ship mechanics still have to be figured out too.

Ships will never be balanced as such, but their handling etc still has to be refined, several ships are essentially running on similar setups which don't reflect their thruster placement etc yet IMHO.

Remember the fundraising total didn't include private investors who helped before crowdfunding started. They already had some money in the bank, crowdfunding was simply meant to prove there was an appetite for the game. We've no idea if those investors are still involved and if the original ones were paid back, I doubt it.

Either way they will likely have raise another couple of million this weekend alone.

I wrote a long message about fairness, mismanagement, poor choices, fan boys... then deleted it. Because fan boys are fan boys... and OMG if you want a laugh, try saying some constructive in the Reddit SC subforum. Jesus... it's like you just insulted their mothers.

Good video Speed. Enjoyed it. The sad thing is it kinda made me wanna buy them

It's a very strange subreddit, I get down voted just for posting the odd video then I'll post something that's taken zero effort and get gold. It's almost as if they flip a coin when voting, some say it's bots but I guarantee it's not, there is just a very strong herd voting mentality.. If you start heading down, it'll only get worse, if you get a few early up votes, you're sorted.

Despite owning a Polaris the more I think about it the less sense it makes. Capital class ship with very little capital about it, not even shields which it apparently relies on.. It's very fast but apparently vulnerable to torpedoes which we know are slower than missiles and just as easy to use counter measures on, it also has less utility than a Carrick despite having far greater internal space even excluding the hangar.

Either they've not explained it well it's rule hasn't been fleshed out. Right now all you get is capital running costs for a beefed up retaliator.
