******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Just back from hols so unlikely, hitting the wine instead ! More than likely be on tomorrow evening, I need to get caught up on various updates/patches tonight :)

I read a few weeks after the Crucible was first shown in concept art an idea someone had of using one to essentially salvage the rare ships in the 'verse, was a good idea. Rather than going in with a reclaimer and getting raw materials, his plan was to try to load them into a crucible and repair at a later date if he couldn't get parts straight away. This could in theory allow him to get even never-to-be-sold ships like the F8 Lightning if he's lucky a few times.

Just an interesting take on what the repair ship could be used for, in addition to obvious "keep them in the battle" mechanics.

Starfarer wise the Gemini was 240, but the base starfarer was under 200, it takes on a whole new level of "value" when at those levels IMHO. that's one of the reasons if/when I get mine back I'll likely keep it. As Paul says if nothing else it's a steady income or cost reduction.

Yeah I like how some people are thinking outside the box on how they can use the in-game mechanics for arguably slightly difference purposes. A few have mentioned the Polaris being able to do minor repairs on ships out and about, so essentially refueling/arming a small group of fighters whilst being too dangerous for enemy fighters to approach for long (until the Gladiators turn up). But there seems to be something thinking that it'd be better for boom and zoom, personally I think a bit of both but could also be used to mop up parts after a battle if a friendly tractor beaming Cutlass is around. Essentially Polaris gives the Cutlass protection, it gives the Polaris parts. Almost like a shark and a Remora.

Lot's of possibilities, many of which aren't PVP orientated and hell many aren't even ship based now we've seen planetary tech demos!

Yes you are wrong, so I'll correct you ;)

You can buy Squadron 42 or Star Citizen on their own or as a joint package, Squadron 42 is the single player campaign, Star Citizen is the multi-player "universe", neither is out and we're still alpha testing Star Citizen in a modular fashion, the modules will be joined up later to create the game.

Squadron 42 single: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Squadron-42-Standalone-Pledge
Star citizen single:https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Mustang-Alpha-SC-Starter
Joint package:https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Mustang-Alpha-Star-Citizen-Squadron-42-Combo

So it's $54 or $72 depending on which you opt for, no requirement to pay a subscription afterwards. You can earn any ship which people are pledging for in-game after release, the "ships" are merely being sold as a means to getting funds to get the project done, eventually, sometime, maybe by 2020.

It won't ever be funded by subscription, whilst there are subscribers just now they fund the community ships, of which there are several each week. That way pledges on ships etc all go into funding development of the game whilst those who opt to help can fund the ongoing marketing via the weekly shows.

You could have bought into the game for as little as $20 a couple of years ago with a "starter pack" they are occasionally offered but the price has been creeping upwards.

I await the inevitable "it's a scam" trolls etc. Bottom line is that I've been playing the alpha in one form or another for literally hundreds of hours since 2013. I've had my moneys worth and then some already.

The single player campaign will lead into Star Citizen if you have it, you'd get a start in the public universe based on the outcome of the campaign etc.

Or you can just jump straight in, I think most will buy both though as the single player campaign does have a lot of big names (Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman) involved and Chris Roberts is known for telling a good story.

I backed SC for a fairly moderate sum during the kickstarter. I genuinely don't understand people paying $100's for additional ships unless I'm missing something quite fundamental.

I also backed Elite : Dangerous which I've put well over a 1000 hours into, so I've got more than my moneys worth. I'm just glad that space sims have made a come back.

It's easy to forget that Elite did a very similar thing, I backed it during Kickstarter and get a free upgraded Cobra MKIII anytime I fancy starting a new guy.

Some people just want a game to be made without publishers rushing it out, that's all. I know two people who have put in over £50,000 but as both are exceptionally rich, massive gaming fans I don't see the problem. It's all about perspective.

I know plenty of people who think I'm mad for having the gaming setup that I have, but they'll gladly spend £50 grand on a car when I'd never spend more than 10K..

Likewise I put in over £100 into Elite at kickstarter, played it for around 150 hours, that's pretty good value for money at less than £1/hour for entertainment. I've already had over 700 hours out of Star Citizen..

You wouldn't really be able to do anything just now as the active testing is all on Star Citizen rather than SQ42. Since most of the SQ42 assets will be in the Star Citizen universe they're making and testing them there etc.

Might as well wait if you're only interested in the single player campaign tbh.

Don't need to join bud but most Fridays at 9pm on the pagan TS server (in sig) there will be people on larking about. Occasionally during the week too, I might be on this evening, depends if/when my daughter gets herself to sleep lol

We'll probably move to discord on the OCUK channel in the next few months though.

I'll add you on the RSI site so I see you in game, you can do that on the RSI site by going here, clicking on "my rsi" and on the left, in faint writing is the "contacts" tab, then add citizen - just copy/paste in peoples handles. Mine is Raumarik

You can obviously do it in game too, I'm just lazy and like to paste stuff in..

Alternatively you can go to their profile page e.g. https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/profile/pinoy_soldier click on dossier and click the follow button on the top right. The profile changes according to in game handle which is handy e.g.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/profile/raumarik
https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/profile/humbug1
etc

It's a mixed bag mate, many of us played it but lost interest, I still like Elite but never really get a chance to play it. I'm either playing Star citizen or editing videos of star citizen lol

Yeah don't get fixated on LTI good to have but it's value is highly debatable especially longer term.

Sharing ships is certainly something they want to allow but as mentioned when we can manage it is probably a long way off. Most orgs will have several ships bought for lending out tbh

You don't get the additional credits until the game is released, just now we're using made-up currency (alpha-UEC) and you can make it doing missions, going to comms arrays and turning them on etc.

You'll start with a flight suit, just put it on at the hangar in your spawn room or at the cupboards near the airlock doors.

To get into the same instance as your mate one (or preferably both of you) need to add each other to your in-game friends list (press F11), easiest was is to do it in-game but you can do it on the RSI site too by going here and typing in your friends name:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/settings

click "my RSI" then on the left side of the popup you'll see "contacts" add him in there, get him to do it too. Both log out and one log in, then when the other goes to login to crusader you'll see the instance your friend is in and you can join in on them. You'll also be able to add each other to a group first using the in-game contacts list (F11) which is a more reliable way to enter an instance together.

So, what's currently available?

I'm GENUINELY not after a fight, but compare it to E: D as to what there is to do and level of completion. E: D basically bores me after a pretty short time, looking for a little more but I don't think there's... that much completed here.

Not after what's being promised compared to E: D, I'm aware of that, not followed it well enough to know the state of the.... game at the moment.

You can like both, I do :)

Elite is still way more of a "game" per say. Solo in Star Citizen and you'll get bored quickly, there's only so many times you can do the same missions, most of which are copy/paste jobs.

You can however:

1. Arena commander - fight NPC, COOP or versus or even race.
2. Hangar - explore your ships
3. Arccorp - have a look around the shops and what a typical city area will look like later.
4. Crusader/Olisar - Take part in the mini-"public universe" which has some degree of persistence. Money you earn stays, your reputation also stays and there's now a pirate base (where you'll spawn if you reputation goes south).

IMHO though multiplayer is where it shines, take out a Constellation with a few randoms or friends or a Starfarer, Freelancer or Cutlass and the game takes on a whole new dimension. Those same missions now feel more involved, more fun. Heck even just messing around on some of the various space structures you can visit can be a laugh. I snuck into an avenger a few weeks and shot the pilot as he flew home, the same guy had been chasing me around a Starfarer half an hour earlier.

Unlike Elite you really need to make it into something, Elite you can fire up and get on with it. You need to put the initial effort into entertaining yourself in SC as it stands.

I've a feeling I'll be in Grimhex, every time I spawn in the last couple of days I've been there, no idea why as I've tried to clear my name several times, never anything to clear!
