******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

So, if I bought the above, what access to I get from now and until release? I'm confused about Squadron 42, is it a few small little missions based upon the MP universe? Or is it a fully fleshed out HUGE SP experience like X rebirth? Where I carve my own way in a huge space RPG?

At the moment, if you play, is it simply just messing around in a sandbox? Or is there any content? Such as AI missions, planetary landing etc.

It's still alpha, I wouldn't recommend buying in until 3.0 drops at the earliest unless you like ****ing around having a laugh but not actually progressing your wealth etc.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of users use kb+m, it's fine. Controller is bit crappy but is possible if that's what you really want to do I guess.

Yeah probably right, must admit I tend to switch between several control types, can't make my mind up which I prefer but I do like not having to switch controller when moving from ship to FPS and as it's something you can do whenever you want in the modules just now I'm leaning heavily towards it now.

speeduk you are a funny, funny man :)

Think most of us are thinking end of the year but probably next sadly. It's timescales, CIG just don't estimate well at all.

top tip folks, even if you aren't needing a free fly always apply it to your account, they have a tendancy to give out silly gifts now and then based on those who participated.

Log in, go to the URL below and apply the code on the page, job done. Nothing might happen, but you never know..

Well been looking around game for a while, looks like a great game, is there a way to turn some graphics settings on off, or enable AA etc ? and will this game be like a free to play at launch, and choice of buying stuff, or if i buy a package now, does that give me a retail key at launch ? cheers

Graphics settings stuff is still being implemented but you can tinker with a lot of it in the XML and people are constantly updating guides and giving example xml files for it (Boredgamer on youtube is a good example) It'll be a while before in-game options are there though. Typically still the best way to improve performance is to drop resolution, although in certain modes (test public universe) FPS is affected by the server which is a pain - that is going to change later though.

If you buy now you get the choice of single player (Squadron 42) or multiplayer (Star Citizen) or both, or you can buy one and add the other later. There won't be any mandatory costs after release but as it's not out yet and still essentially vapourware (in development) it may never come out - you need to consider that when pledging. If in doubt leave it and back after release. Previously there were potentially benefits on your account for backing early but these stopped ages ago (Stretch goal rewards) and we haven't had much in the past 18 months so honestly, I'd say wait unless you are keen to test it, cos that's all we're doing - play testing. Although it can be great fun :)

Funding model post release will rely heavily on micro transactions this will include an option to subscribe, although it's unlikely this would include anything earth shattering and likely only cosmetic fluff as it has been for the past few years. There will also be the option to buy in-game currency to try to combat the old gold farmers etc but will have monthly caps on how much can be bought etc. As far as I'm aware they don't currently intend to "sell" in-game ships post release but that could change.

I never really liked Bugsmashers until I went back and started watching them from the start, they're one of the more interesting parts of the ATVs tbh and sometimes the most amusing too!

The controller config needs a lot of work, my PC frequently has a 360 controller, additional mouse etc plugged in by my daughter, most of the time this results in my SC config going wonky - hence me losing patience a little with it just now. KB/M are fine especially if you use gimballed weapons - not so good with fixed wing stuff, that's where a stick come into it's own.

btw for those wish orgs spectrum permissions seem to be wonky by default on some sections - such as a general section only org owners can access etc which makes no sense so a little checking is probably best.

Am I the only one who thinks the new hurricane makes little sense from the spec? Slower than a hornet, less agile, less armour, less shield, but more firepower.

So a sitting duck with teeth in its break.. but unlikely to ever get a shot off against anyone competent. It's a space turret basically.

Glass cannon in a game where each death matters is not a superb idea :P

I think it's spec'd wrong on the info we've been given though, those engines cannot be correct surely!

Where? On the spec sheet unless they change it. It's lighter but with far less power on the old engine.

Yes I'll likely be tweaked but right now it's basically a better armed aurora for several times the price. It warrants low cost ccus still add your never know what'll happen later.

Uninstall, by the time the next freeplay it will be completely new
What stream you waiting on mate? I'm out the loop only been watching 2014 stuff lately!

It can do on certain modes, if you don't mind a little more wait then don't stress about it though. It's generally a smoother experience with an SSD and you'll get into game modes a little quicker.
