******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I watched Draegast play this again last night, his FPS looked fine but even when I put my settings to 1080p, medium in the hangar it ran like crap?

Uninstalled it yet again. This time until it's properly fixed.

Ignoring Harry's comments above, shouldn't run poorly in the hangar with your spec to be honest. Was it a brand new install? Just wondering if something in the XML config file from a previous version could have been causing it, or even verifying installation files from the launcher might have helped much like you can do with Steam installs.

Ironically I had a hell of a time last night getting my controls setup for Elite, so much so I'll probably just not bother going back to it. Requires me to configure deadzones/curves outside of the game for my devices and I just cannot be bothered with all that faff. Well I might just go use keyboard/mouse I guess :p

Ran the game

- No ship in my Hangar lols. Had to Google how to add it
- 3440 not supported. Menus freak out. Have to switch to 2560x on my $1500 monitor
- Runs at 30fps in main station and has 25% each card

I mean, come on, really?

Ask for a refund.

Seriously this isn't going to be a simple game to play at release (heck it isn't already) so if you're struggling to cope with the absolute basics of alpha and literally a handful of clicks you'll melt down when you get into the PU.

Might as well prevent that stress :p

Halfmad - why do you need to configure deadzones / curves? Maybe its just CH but with my CH Fighterstick I've never had to configure curves or deadzones for Elite: Dangerous or Star Citizen. What joystick are you using? I originally had a Logitech wireless joystick and that was terrible - i put it down to very poor sensors and a lot of play in the mechanism.

Have you tried a game pad instead in Elite: Dangerous? I can do most things apart from combat with my xbox 360 pad. So I swap between joystick and pad depending on what I'm doing.

CH Throttle is insanely sensitive without having the CH software installed to numb it down, I can do it in-game for Star Citizen though so it's not a problem, tiny deadzone, custom curve - problem solved. Not got that option with elite so I'll use KB/M (with the analog axis on the roccat tyon as roll). I'm not likely to play elite as much as I did in the past anyway as I played it to death in beta and just after release with org mates. Plus I already have the urge to get out of the seat in Elite, feels very odd to be stuck there now :( especially as trackir works so well.

I hated 360 controller on Elite, generally only use them as a last resort for driving games or the likes of Broforce, I'm more of a keyboard/mouse player in general.

yeah I did that, but there are more than 1 throttle option, and no matter which one I put on the throttle axis, just a tiny movement in either direction was making my throttle either at 100% or 0%

I don't suppose you still have the axis bound elsewhere? It sounds like it.

Sometimes easier to check in the xml directly.

To be fair to SC, I've not seen a game come out in years now that hasn't had cheats like this made available within days of launch. They most likely have used a slightly modified crisis 3 hack or maybe another games made from cryengine

What's important here is how cig handle it.

Honestly they should allow them to play for a while, gather data and get hold of the hacks so they can build in tools to help identify those using them. Then hand out permanent account, payment and address bans to those identified. Having said that I bet several players have handed the cheat tools to CIG already.

Haha harry love the silences, guessing they (Worzel mostly) was letting rip with the old swearies :p

We need to get back to regular nights now 2.6 is out.

They've been working on it for over a year, no sign of it ever coming which is why I moved to OBS studio to split audio channels :)

game / discord / my headphone mic / my desk mic all separate.

I've yet to see Harry fly, I'm willing to bet he parks better than you Worzel :P

Just having a break from gaming as much, got a few books to get read and series to catch up on TV. Then I'll no doubt be back working on vids and dying horribly in "accidents" as Worzel mows me down in his constellation lol

I just link this whenever I want to annoy Worzel :P

And for anyone who's watched 10FTC at all, you'll read this in CRs voice:

You'll keep whatever insurance the Aurora came with.

LTI isn't a big deal though so even if it's a 3 month insurance package remember that:

1. LTI is exactly the same as Standard hull insurance (SHI) without the recurring cost.
2. Any changes made to the ship aren't covered by LTI or SHI, they have to insured on their own.
3. Doesn't cover cargo.
4. You'll likely struggle to leave a hangar without SHI as there will be layers of reminders to prevent you losing a ship permanently.
5. Game time counts down at around 1 in-game day for 2 hours (subject to change, this is info from 2014). As insurance only counts down when ships are in use you'll have this much use based on the amount of insurance you get free with the ship in actual gameplay time with that ship:

1 month insurance = 60 hours (30 in game days x 2)
3 month insurance = 180 hours
6 months insurance = 360 hours
1 years insurance = 720* hours
2 years insurance = 1440* hours
3 years insurance = 2880* hours
4 years insurance = 5760* hours

(*approx)

Remember this is when that ship is in use, if it's sitting in a hangar it doesn't count down insurance time.

^^I haven't worked this out just for this reply, I've been pondering making an LTI related video as I'm a bit sick of people obsessing over it, it's being hyped by CIG as a marketing tool when it's really just a tiny bonus and wont' help much at all at release.

I'm going to correct myself on this having looked into it and as part of my research for the next video I'm putting out.

From the horses mouth so to speak. Standard hull insurance (SHI) does not run down as I mentioned above. Things changed in 2014 and Chris Roberts himself stated that (paraphrased):

Ship insurance runs down at in-game time. So if you have 3 months insurance on your ship, fly it and shelve it. Then come back in 4 "in-game" months the insurance on that ship has now run out.

Few things to consider:

1. SHI is still going to be relatively cheap. If you've played WoW or most MMORPGs think of it as similar to getting a weapon repaired at a local smithy. Similar "hurts a lot to start with but once you've got some money it's fairly meaningless".

2. This boosts the arguable value of LTI considerably compared to how I'd considered it in the past. It's still far from a game changer and LTI still won't cover cargo, crew, modifications

3. Due to the change on SHI it means it'll run out faster than anticipated, so that cost is going to hit earlier.

4. 1 month "in game time" is currently thought to be around 3 "real" days (at 2 real hours per game day). So a 3 month insurance starter ship will likely run out of insurance in the persistent universe in around 9 "real" days.

This new information comes from 10 For the Chairman episode 28, at around 14:30 in.

Sales tend not to mean reduced prices oddly - it's typically "rarer" ships, although you might as well wait to get them in-game tbh.

You can always borrow someone elses (steal it) or log on when there's a few OCUKers around to give you a shot or even rent one with REC (gained playing Arena commander public matches and Star Marine).

Start off with the Mustang Alpha pack (Star Citizen + SQ42) if I remember right it's value is $5 higher than the Aurora pack in terms of changing to a different ship in the future if you decide to, just a quirk of the upgrade system.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Mustang-Alpha-Star-Citizen-Squadron-42-Combo

It's also faster, more manouverable although the Aurora MR is more tanky.

The alternative is to hold off until a special event where packs are sold at a discount, these happen a few times a year and we're usually spamming about them in here and on discord etc.

Plenty of people use KB/M, so you've few worries there. I found 360 controller a bit of a task but I'm not a big gamepad user.
