******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Most of it is simply pledging to fund the project. You can buy the game for the same price as any other AAA have at release (years away) but you'll start with no ship that you own, likely get a loan one. People want this game made, many of us haven't had a GOOD space game for decades although personally I liked elite dangerous, just found it shallow.

To give some context I've played about 1000 hours in alpha and enjoyed every minute

I quite like it, but you are right, it's got an awful cockpit view.

At the price it's not a million miles from the Blade if you want a small light (rare) alien fighter.

$250 is a lot though for a small light fighter, but then so is $185.

I think they'll sort out the visibility issue during whiteboxing, apparently CR himself noted it's cockpit needs changed as Banu are likely taller than humans and it's far too swept back - so we know it's changing anyway.

Once I get the video I'm working on done I'll be around more. Underestimated how much content was put out in 2014 and it's taking ages to decide what to include etc

New merchandise on offer, some whinging about it not combining shipping on multiple orders but as this stuff tends to be made to order it's not surprising tbh. Still got me a new hat at long last, will stop the wife whinging about me getting my head burnt doing the garden :)

Mouse mats are a bit small imho 90x30cm (90x40 would be fine).

Birthday this week so treated myself to a CH combat stick. Still in need of pedals but mapped roll to the ch pro throttle mini stick alongside strafe up/down and works fairly well. Need practice but was having fun in pirate swarm.

Still keep trying to twist the stick though! Going to take some getting use to.

I don't have teh space for pedals, so I use the top castle hat on the throttle for the same thing, in both this and Elite. Takes a short while to get used to, but works exceedingly well. I don't think I could go back to a twist rudder, now.
Good choice of HOTAS, though - SOOO many buttons and combo-options!

Have you seen the Control Manager config software and the CMPrint utility that lets you print out what controls you've set to which buttons?

Only just getting into the Control manager again, going to spend a little time no the CMS side as there's some things I'd like the throttle to do and a guy on Reddit is helping me out. Such as having the throttle axis flip when a button is held down so it becomes a reverse strafe axis like you can in Elite Dangerous etc.

Certainly getting use to not having twist faster than expected and I love the longer throw of the Combat stick even if it's got a definite detent when cross the center of an axis, oddly I'm getting use to that too and find it quite reassuring. All in all very good :)

So how many people have got addicted and bought a fair few ships and then had a rethink and thought what's really the point?

If you could start again and just get 1 game package would you?

Interested to know what you guys have bought.

I always recommend the Mustang Alpha or Aurora LX (or LN if they want to fight), I'd probably opt for the Aurora LX myself, starting ship with cargo space and a jump drive? Hell yeah.

I dabbled in the grey and black markets back in 2013/14 so I've made money from Star Citizen, rather than putting into it. This was partly due to the community being so obsessed over LTI, which is still sort of going on.

Reliance on NPCs is what made me wary of having a Polaris, so it's now a 890J which allegedly can be flown by one person. I'm just not 100% sure how well these NPCs are going to work!

Then again I'm happier crewing other peoples ships at the moment than I am flying my own so maybe they'll gather dust in my hangar :p

Wasn't on last night as is taken my keyboard to bits to replace LEDs and then couldn't find the solder..

Thanks guys.
Yeah well after going with the aurora squadron 42 package.... Then got a cutlass black.... Then a gladius... Then melted and swapped.... And realised I'd spent about £280....on a game!
I recently asked CIG for a refund as I had a hardware fault that I thought was going to cost me big time and would stop me playing any game for a while never mind SC.
Very understanding they gave me a refund on everything but I said I would still back the game as a minimum.

So it's back to aurora MR for now.
Hopefully I'll be back for 3.0....hopefully I won't get the bug to upgrade ships too much

Sensible thing to do tbh, good thing is if you decide to upgrade you can do it to a decent small ship for a $1 month and not even notice the money. I'm a long time subscriber and don't mind that as I feel I get my moneys worth (normally - been lazy recently) playing each month when I'd normally be paying a subscription for a MMORPG anyway.

As much as I have problems with OBS I'm sticking with it for now, Shadowplay have been promising control over audio channels etc for years but in the meantime keep ******** about with the interface and options instead.

They are pretty damn good all rounders - but all the mechanics aren't in so I'd hold off getting one if it meant adding more cash.

I only rent them with REC at the moment but one of my favourites.

I wouldn't suggest getting ships for how they perform now, you'll be disappointed later once things are balanced, some mechanics haven't even been implemented yet and others are likely to change later. Bottom line though is that if you want a good dogfighter, you'll need to buy one rather than a more generalised ship. Only combat ships will be exceptional at combat but they'll also pretty much only be able to do that.

If you want to try the Connie out pop on our discord on a friday night and we'll let you fly one of ours, that's typically our go-to ship most evening. It flies like a bus these days though and the damage mechanics etc have a lot of work still to be done.

It's probably meant to have been shown ahead of the sale that's coming up this week (friday?) If so I'm vaguely happy since it shows them going back to their more commercial roots for these concepts..
