******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Depends, i mean they call Elite Dangerous a game and there is no more to that than there is to SC, in fact it is as Katie Burns would put it's a toy version of SC.

Others call running around shooting at others running around on a 4KM square map a game, and i have had a lot of fun in games like that.

SC has many faults, and its certainly not for everyone, but its the only game i play continuously and have done for many years, i don't do that with any other game, i tried out BF2042 and didn't buy it, i enjoyed FC3, to a lesser extent FC4, bought FC5 and unistalled it after a few hours, i'm a few hours in to FC6 and am feeling the same way about it, i have about 400 hours in ED Horizons and about 100 hours in ED Odyssey, i haven't touched it in 6 months and when i see it in my Steam Library now i'm thinking "that's taking up drive space" but there is nothing i want to buy to use that drive space so it just gets left because "maybe one day i'll look in again" it never happens....

Again Star Citizen has problems, talk to me about those and we have a good conversation, but don't tell me its not a game and laugh at people who do like it, you're just showing yourself up as a troll.

A solid and constructive post, are you feeling okay that end ;)

Well said.

Doesn't the comparisons to Elite Dangerous make the project look worse though?
Two games kick started around the same time, Elite Dangerous has been released for so long already that people have got bored of it yet with probably 4 times as much money and the extra time Star Citizen is not much further along now.
Can't even really say that they have focused on the campaign instead as they have already said that is years off.

Not in my opinion but everyone got their own view. In that ED came out feeling pretty empty, it had a good year with some interest and then since then just got to feel less and less whilst they pushed out paid expansions and such. There less depth, lore and such in ED overall in my view. They had some interesting things and it just got lost and forgotten.

In the same time frame from initial to now then regardless of ED being released there is less there, more empty. There is no extra time for SC compared to ED. They have both been developed for just as long, one is just Alpha, the other is live release with paid expansion but the fact it has been same time frame with less gameplay and depth to most of it would suggest it ED hasn't gone as well as hoped in comparison.

Finance, yeah okay? But there is more and it has cost more, is it worth the additional, I mean kind of irrelevant as it is up to that player on that front. For instance to get everything in SC you needed to have spent £25 back in 2012, £35 in 2014, £40 now. To get everything in Elite at release points you'd of had to have spent £40 base, £30 horizon expansion at release, £30 for Odyssey. So from a player perspective then ED was more expensive than SC, in fact you could have brought SC 3x over and got all the content included cause it hasn't charged for expansions.

With that the prices for 2012 and 2014 are for both SC and SQ42 so two games (whenever it releases). We have seen development of that. The last wording about time off was 2022-2023. We know realistically the earliest will be end of 2023 with what has been shown and the reports they produce. However for those that dropped £35 back in 2014 like myself that means SC would have cost £17.50 and SQ42 £17.50.

Does ED has all the complexities that SC/SQ42 aim for?

ED Horizons was played entirely through your in cockpit displays, so for example if your running cargo you go to point A, get your cargo through your ship screens, fly to point B and drop off your cargo through the same screen, a couple of clicks.

The Odyssey expansion gives you access to screens in space stations or the surface outposts, and now you have hands to hold pew pews instead of the pew pew just being a ship extension of you.

It's okay guys. I say we arrange a cage fight between @humbug and the trolls of the thread?

Just jumped in for the first time in a long time, running quite smooth but i don't really want to get into the game until my main ship is released which i know is going to be some time. it's a shame but i understand that it's going back to be re designed as they wanted to make the interior landing pad larger. Hopefully it's not going to be nerfed in the process however.

The planet tech is looking great at the moment and the performance really did surprise me. Few stutters here and there but overall was sitting at 40+ fps hopefully that can be improved on just a little more and get us up to that famed 60fps. Anything more would be a cherry on top.
