******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

The problem is that while the money pours in, that will no doubt continue due to how invested many gamers are now, there’s less incentive to finish it. Could be epic, one day.
Surely despite the negative thoughts on the project, why has it made 600m dollars?

If it was such a terrible product and terrible company, surely it would not have made that much money?

And surely this very same thread would have died inactive long ago?

Take your pick:
- gamers are the biggest marks out of the consumer base
- these are the same people who buy into alternative medicine and magic beans
- the early adopters are so invested at this point they’re buying into ‘what could be’
- the early adopters who haven’t paid into it as much keep checking back periodically

If it ever releases, great, but it’d be crazy to be investing thousands into this unless you have money to burn.

By the time this releases it’s entirely possible that SF will have been modded into something much better…or at least sooner.

In the meantime, I’ll return to checking in annually just in case.

I suspect if this released on Steam, with the two hour refund window, it would be very different.

Given that it always picks up a ton of new players during free fly weeks where the game is often at it's worst and they have far more than two hours to check it out + it usually takes newbies more than a couple of hours to figure out what to do, where to go or get anything done, I'm not so sure about your logic there.

If it was on steam it would be review bombed into the ground and so, so many people would refund imo. However it does still pull in large new players and a fair chunk of them appear to stick around. I think the people that play it regularly provide a good environment for new players for getting into it and there's been so few real space games.

I’m not saying it wouldn’t have new players joining, I’m saying a lot of people would also have refunded, which would’ve affected CIGs profits. To what extent, we can only speculate.

There’s clearly plenty of people here who would have sought a refund if possible. The fact the game takes more than a couple of hours to get in to isn’t making the point you think it is. People clock watch (careful how you say it!) and would refund before the 2 hour window expires. We commonly criticise modern gamers of wanting instant gratification, and this would be no different.

I suspect SC has become a regretted purchase for a lot of people, who now see it as “money lost” now, but will be pleasantly surprised when the game eventually becomes viable to play and enjoy for the larger player base.

FWIW, my experience is based on a free fly event last year or so. Thought the game was nice looking and feature rich, whilst incredibly clunky and not intuitive. Flying out of a space station hanger and landing on a planet is a brilliant achievement for a game. Going in to a cave, climbing down a shin-high obstacle and breaking your leg is not. The technology was impressive but the game didn’t entice me to buy.

All I can say is that it's nothing to write home about...

Every company does this.

Save your hatred for a company if they Sexualy abuses it's employees or something like that.

Buying a fancy art costing more than your salary is nothing mate.

If your jealous that a piece of art is worth more than you developing a new mission into sc. Get a new career and become an artist so you can draw a drake ship and sell it to Christ Robert for large fee
If you have the founds secured to finish the game, then is fine (I guess). Can we really be sure they have that?

In that time India managed to develop and land a drone on the moon for a fraction of the cost of SC.
Others games costed more than that mission; same mission would costed more in USA or Europe since you're not working with cheap labor. So that's nothing really.

People are dreaming about something more than your average reheated soup (Starfield included), so they invest in it. If others games would try to offer something more than the "same ol', same ol'", then maybe SC would die down. Is the same with ArmA series. Buggy mess, but no one can touch Bohemia when it comes to that series.

No hatred from me, That's quite a strong word, Dislike is more apt.

If a game is mostly publicly funded, Which this largely is, Then those funds shouldn't be spent on office art especially when that office "art" is in the realm of £100,000+, That's spitting in the face of backers.

Now if the game was near to going from alpha to beta ok yeah then it would be ok as that's a huge milestone... but we're at least 10 years away from SC coming out of alpha.

For that amount they could've hired 2 decent devs for a year to focus on specific areas of a game.... but instead they have "art" in the coffee lounge

If you have the founds secured to finish the game, then is fine (I guess). Can we really be sure they have that?

From everything I have read so far they are quickly running out of money due to massive amounts of mismanagement... spending tens of thousands on "art" being 1 of those mismanaged ideas.

Is this a joke? It's being kept alive by a handful of posters! Of the 16,588 posts in the thread:

humbug has 2.5k posts (15%)
Raumarik has 1,876 posts (11%)
You have 1,231 posts (7.4%)

These three posters contribute a third of all posts. When you're this deep down the rabbit hole it's unlikely that the thread will die or become inactive.

Mags you devil. I didn't know you ventured outside of general! And then coming in with the stats, what an entrance.

OI.... what's with the finger pointing? Just because i'm much closer to 50K than you :p

Raumarik is the thread author and the Org owner, i'm an Org Admin and Jonney an Org member, the thread is 9 years old.

That's my excuse, what's your excuse for being here? If you're not careful you'll get sucked down the same rabbit hole but for all the wrong reasons.

I suspect Mag is somewhat like myself - relatively impartial, has probably partaken in a free flight event and left rather ‘whelmed’ by the experience. Whilst interested in the technology and romantically optimistic that a game may come out of the pipe on the other end, feels conflicted seeing people posting positive sentiments about the game, because we feel you have to forgive far too much to do so.

Or he’s just a stats junkie and has been hiding his time to post :D

And in classic CIG fashion i never got all the ships accredited to me account for the free fly, no vulture for some reason.

With BG3, ArmoredCore6 and Starfield all being amazing I and a load of people I play with have all taken a back seat to SC. The terminals have also been a bit more buggy recently than normal that hasn't helped.

I recall getting in a ship somewhere that was parked outside, then two people got on it and shot me. Still no clue if it was there for anyone or if I was trespassing lol.

Sounds like a lovely story! How can u never slander this masterpiece of a game!!!

Anyways, even though things are very quiet and not many people playing, all it takes for us to reel us in is some nice fancy medium size ship or dare i say, 4.0?

Citizencom is around the corner . Lets just all enjoy other games.

Hey I slander the state of it, never denied I had fun in it! Think my immediate experience after that was waking up in a hospital then clipping through the floor lol.

edit: Also, yeah was a visual bug or whatever, I didn't actually have access to the game although account indicated so, so it's working as intended

ArmoredCore6 what's that like?
Amazing, I'm loving it. I would check out some vids on it though as the gameplay is very different to most things out atm. Looking forward to them expanding the game series. Still remember the original game on the PS1. The newer games became a lot faster and twitchy. This one has slowed it down a bit and changed things around but it's still fast. I'm still on my first run but it's the same as Nier where there's a NG+ and ++ modes. To get all the endings, missions etc. you need to play it through three times. The story is more of a subtle thing, wee messages from people at the end of missions. It's there but you need to pay attention I'd say, it's more focused on the gameplay.
