******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

there was a huge amount of threads on the original boards w/ people talking/doing upgrades for something that was supposed to be out in a year-ish. wonder how much money SC cost people in that respect.
i remember buying my gtx980 and thinking it would be perfect for SC to play in VR with my oculus rift aDK2. since then I have had a 1080ti, now a 3090 and i expect will have another GPU as well by the time it drops.

I am also on my 5th VR headset :D

I'm doubtful about the authenticity of that. Seems like **** stirring fake news to me.
Of all the internal emails that fly around CIG, this one happens to get 'leaked'?

Pretty sure SF is doing just fine + it and SC aren't really in direct competition with each other IMO, as they're aiming at completely different things, other than having space ships and 'star' in the title.

it is a bit disingenuous to try to rubbish starfield and i hope that is fake and they are not that disrespectful

SC isnt going to be out for what 2.................. 3??? years and as such i would hope it is better than starfield in terms of features and eye candy.

and IF someone was to say, that Starcitizen is out now then that is not true either...... because to argue SC is out now and is a proper game now, then one should demand of it the features that people demand of released games.......

ie persistance of game progress, a (fairly) bug free and stable game, reliable network and consistent smooth performance (within the supported game requirements).

SC doesnt have that yet so imo so it isnt fair to compare it to games which ARE released and subject to those things which SC is skirting around by its "alpha" state. (or is that pre alpha???)

It's more that we're taliking about a singleplayer game vs a multiplayer sandbox with very different technical aims and requirements.

ED: Saying that, it's fair to say that they're both in the sphere of interest for people wanting to play a space game, so there is some obvious overlap. Still calling BS on that email though :p

Yea i dont believe that email is real.

If it is, that is pure stupid to bash starfield.

Real or not i don't think its trying to rubbish Starfield its just trying to say there is an opportunity for a new more mainstream audience, i don't think that is at all wrong, i'm not going to repeat the points its making as i don't see the need to double down on them, Star Citizen does have a lot to offer to those who simply don't see it as one or the other, Star Citizen is full of people from EVE Online and ED Odyssey.

There have been keyboard warriors with some really weird need to see Star Citizen fail call Starfield the end of Star Citizen, just as they did with ED Odyssey and yet again instead of that its just made people appreciate Star Citizen for all it is and has achieved because Starfield has also shown just how difficult this #### is, it is level 11 on the difficulty scale.
One might say well i don't really care about not being able to explore my surroundings in the way that i would like, i don't mind teleporting everytime i turn left and occasionally when i also turn right, i don't care that my ship is nothing more than a loadscreen portal and means nothing more to me than a storage bin and nor do i care the graphics are frankly a bit poo.
And yet none of those things make for a convincing Star Citizen killer, if only these keyboard worriers knew all of this before they started hacking at their long suffering keyboards, again.

The irony is Star Citizen as originally pledged was exactly what Starfield is, probably would have come out in 2016 and would be long dead by now.

7 years for that....

that is sadly just the internet.... just like at all the review bombing games get (Elite got it, as did starfield and i have zero doubt SC will get it as well regardless of how good or bad it is.

Note i say Elite.... Elite Odyssey deserved every single bit edit... well ok, most of the bad press it got at launch - and made worse as it isnt the 1st time Frontier have launched a broken game (admittedly as bad as Ody was at launch it was not as bad as 1st encounters but that is by the by and has its own story.... But with Ody the devs full on BSed about the issues with the game when in beta and launched it anyway. (its much better now albeit limited in scope).......... but the elite base game got massively review bombed as well, and yet that largely worked and mostly did what it set out to do (the promise of later DLCs sadly seems to have not panned out, but no one knew that back in 2014).

unfortunately people get annoyed at something which happens during development but instead of genuinely complaining about that 1 thing instead feel obliged to create many sockpuppet accounts and just review bomb. i don't see that ever stopping.... tho that said, having to actually own a product before being allowed to post a review on platforms like steam or metacritic would help.

coming from Elite as that is more the game i invested in - tho i have an interest in SC too and backed fairly early on.

but in 2014 SC was going to bury elite, then it was NMS, then space engineers and then it was starfield (and missed out some others too)...................................................... and yet still 9 years on (and looking a little battered due to age) its still going, and (slowly) evolving.

Yeah... I didn't think EDO was that bad, i have about 400 hours in Horizons (pre-Odyssey) and about 600 hours in the latter, what ground me down was the engineering mechanics, i just got so sick and tired of that grind, and its not as if you can not do it.

I hope Frontier sell it to someone who refreshes it and takes the engineering out, i think its a good game ruined by that, i like the exploration, i like the graphics style, i think the sound and atmospherics design is top draw, videos below... i love the combat, i love the things to do in it....

Please someone just fix it....

Post mortem has been released.

Good read

Intresting.....

What We’ll Do Better/Future Plans

Going forward, we’ll finalize and use the new Cloud Test Launcher to adequately stress test the game shards at scale. This tool will simulate player behaviors and allow QA and the engineers to connect multiple modified game clients to the shard. By utilizing cloud computing resources, effective stress testing can be conducted, which will help identify and address issues relating to heavily loaded servers before moving to Live.

The team responsible for PES has now moved onto Static Server Meshing and are embracing a transformation approach to the new project. Unlike PES, this foundational technology can be integrated into the codebase gradually, avoiding a disruptive "Big Bang" approach. Parts of the Server Meshing tech are already available to the game team for testing compatibility with their game features. Combined with the Cloud Test Launcher, this approach aims to facilitate a smoother integration process for Static Server Meshing.

By implementing these measures, we aim to enhance our testing capabilities and mitigate integration challenges, ensuring smoother delivery of foundational technologies while minimizing disruption to the game.

The final frontier is on its way....

Fingers crossed

I think we will see a lot about Server Meshing at Citizencon.

PES broke the game completely, it ###### the code completely, they have admitted they weren't prepared for just how much #### that would cause, they say they have learned from it and adding Server Meshing can be a more gradual less disruptive affair but IMO for as much hell as PES was (Like many others i couldn't even log in for a month after it went live) i feel like doing this in the live environment was the only way to stress PES enough to get the necessary data to fix what was broken, it is now fixed and working well.

On to Server Meshing.... if that's also going to be hell so be it, its the last "Jesus tech". i'm ready....

I'm with you. This was only way to stress test the Pes tech as not many came and joined the ptu phase.

I much rather **** hit the fan now rather than in beta where they still adding jesus tech that is not tested properly.

If they can deliver static server meshing as they intented. I'll be happy
