******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

What's going on with the engine/graphics? That looks significantly better than what we've seen in the base game. Are we going to see that improvement as part of the current Alpha?
Edit - specifically around the 9min mark with the FPS section.

*note....I've only skimmed the video so I may have missed that news...
The new hair tech and clouds are coming in the next patch.

Yeah, It alternates between US & Europe, and I suspect its Frankfurt next rather than Manchester unfortunately.

2017 was Frankfurt
2018 Austin
2019 Manchester
2020 LA
2021 & 22 Online
2023 LA again

So you’d imagine it’s Frankfurts turn, but back-to-back LA shows it might not be the case, especially if 2024 is SQ42’s year, then it makes sense to have it here.
If it’s here in Manchester again, I’m in too.
Its probably quicker for me to get to frankfurt then to Manchester (from London) and cheaper too (prices of train tickets are actually more than a Ryanair flight to somewhere in Europe!)

Theres a few things in that section which are new and due to come to the PU during 2024.

They showed global illumination working, presumably thats present in these shots. So that might be adding to the realism by giving it realistic looking lighting. Theres HUD improvements including the 3D mini-map. Destructible environment. Theres new engine tech that improved the already pretty good volumetric clouds, then they've added ground fog (adds a nice low-level fog close to surface in the distance, helps define the terrain nicely) and light shafts. They really lift the landscape.

The SQ42 also showed environments which simply put look phenomenal and far better than what we've got currently. I was really impressed by the variety of landscapes and just how good they all looked, whether it was on land or in space I didnt look at it and think that looks just like that scene from Star Wars/Trek or whatever it be. They felt original (to me at least) and authentic.

There really was a LOT of stuff being demonstrated over the 2 days and its easy to forget what else there might be thats adding to it.

I just installed it after not trying it in not sure how many years. Certainly before your time.

When was your account created? Mine shows as 2013 :)

Is that yours?

Not a fan of him (Asmongold) particularly, or 'react' videos, but i think this is a really interesting watch.

He's a HUGE streamer, and during the video its pretty obvious he's completely oblivious to SQ42 (gets confused cos people are mentioning Star Citizen and thats not what this is called) and knows very little about Star Citizen either for that matter. His reactions arent OTT they're genuine and extremely positive. The only downside to the whole thing is the chat window - half of it is people hyped, providing bits of info/explanations etc, and then theres they other half of the internet. Scam Citizen, 1fps, gonna need a 6090TI etc etc. Its just sad that theres still people out there who feel like they have to stick to their dumb opinions because they cant possibly be proved wrong.

Is that yours?

Maybe. Not my main account though. I may have registered that one before and forgot about it. My current one is October 1st 2013 :)

Got one more account too that has a Sabre Raven. That one I will probably sell on though. What do you think that is worth?

On another note. I had a quick go and promptly uninstalled it. Performance was terrible and it did not even reflect the fps being show which was 40-50fps.

Also had the forced tutorial which I could not be asked with. Wanted to just have a quick go ffs. Will try again in 2 years time. Maybe just before the release of SQ42 :)

Definitely not for you if your tolerance and patience level is that low

Out of interest, do you recall what your graphics were set to, specifically clouds?
The tutorial usually gives the option to skip before you enter the game.

The Sabre Raven, if you had the code still, its around $1000-1500 USD. On an account, nothing else with it, about $300-400.

Most people who want the ship are completionists, and im sure you know that ship cant be found any other way (not account bound, at least), and so they dont want someone elses account with it on there, they want it on their account, and support wont move account bound items around.

I just got too many games to play to be messing around with something that is in that state. I will try again once I get my next gpu. Maybe can hit 60fps.

All my graphics settings were on high or very high as I recall. But as I say, the smoothness did not match the fps on screen. Then the game crashed which made me uninstall it. Had it not crashed I may have continued.

Nice! $300 would do me. Perhaps I should hang on to it for a longer time. Price might go up. But yeah, if someone got in touch and offered me £250 for it now I would sell it :D

Fair enough.
While smoothness/fps would vary anyway, having clouds on high/very high is an fps killer.

Anyway, it looks like we'll be getting a lot of updates over the next couple of years and it'll be all over the place. Not to worry though, Jonney will keep you updated.

Torbay here also, my account is proper old school, Oct 18th 2012, play SC daily, although a bulk of that time is spent on the PTU so even more scuffed stability wise than live. As for the live PU, when I do play, its never "quick" I can literally waste hours just flying around, bit of mining, bit of salvage, maybe a bit of PvP/PvE combat, when it's fleshed out with all the things mentioned at Citizen Con Star Citizen will be an MMO on such a colossal scale days will be lost exploring the verse.

Performance wise though its been great since 3.21 for me, and with AFMF easily 80+ fps even in cities and often over 200fps in space.

lol pipped me by 1 day. Mines Oct 19th 2012. I dabbled a little in the PTU back in april for about 7-8 hours then jumped off again. i tend to visit it every 2-3 years for a look. Quite liked the salvaging game play and the huge mining ship was mental. Im happy to see they announced the experimental phase for ship modules, repairs, etc. If anyone need an engineer or someone to balance their shields and weapons im down for that in the future

Edit: just remembered i have a Cutlass black and a F7C-M Super Hornet

December 2015.

Found out about this game from this thread

Diddnt play it much as it was at a worse state then compared to now plus only po and yela existed.

I gave it a go once hurston planet was first introduced but got frustrated when I was struggling to land there lol.

I finally got back into it in 2020 during the pandemic thanks to a couple of certain members here so you can blame them from making me Mr star citizen hype man!

Been playing it ever since 2020...

Longest break away from the game has probably been just shy of a month here and there!

SQ42 is looking pretty good, tbh I'm more interested in that than SC these days with the mess it's economy will be in after so many years of virtual money poured into it before it even launches.

Likely still a couple of years until an actual release though, I shall not be waiting with baited breath, more with a tiny background whiff of a potentially good Wing Commander successor to look forward to at some point :)

Nice to see some of the big streamers giving SQ42 some attention, Asmongold, Quin69, LiRiK all impressed by SQ42 and what it represents. Quin69's comments on the fact the game is crowd funded goes to show that the biggest hinderance to game development today are the shareholders and corpo's. When given the freedom and basically infinite budget incredible things can be done.

People are often commenting on the $600 million budget for SQ42 and SC, yet fail to acknowledge that Star Field had a $400 million budget and these games aren't even remotely comparable in scope and fidelity.

Until a couple of days ago you were on my blocked list for a good 4-5yrs i'd imagine, cos of the constant popping in just to tell us it was all a scam etc. :p

Its a shame more people dont realise they can actually change their mind and hop off the 'Scam Citizen' bandwagon, and actually enjoy it and appreciate what it is thats being done.

While were on the topic of when we all backed, i was Feb 13, 2014. A little late to the party. Never played any CR game but was aware of them at the time. I've never really liked Space games, or much space themed media (Star Wars & Red Dwarf being the exceptions), and when my mate mentioned it I briefly remembered skimming a news article about a crowd funded game that had hit $38m i think, and thought it was absolutely idiotic. I told my mate "i dont do space" and then about a week later after looking into what they were trying to do, i bought an Aurora LN package and figured i'd come along for the ride. $45 was about the price of a decent game on Steam, i dont need a 300i or Avenger, $45 is enough. And i stayed true to myself for a whole 2 weeks before buying a Starfarer, then a Reclaimer (concept) shortly after, and then... 4 figures deep :(.

Im hoping to nab an Idris if they come up during IAE next month, with credit though.
I realised a couple of months ago that the ship package i had, which offered great value ($495 for Carrack (into Reclaimer), Terrapin (to BMM) & Dragonfly + both games), had kinda locked me into ships and CCU options i wasnt bothered about, and that with the CCUs i had, not only i could actually remake it for less, i could get FAR more with.
Right now my account has $1025 worth of CCUs alone (melt value) simply because im still working towards building the ships i want. For example i've got the Polaris down to $257.50 already (missing 2 CCUs, no saving from them) and know i can improve that to $187.50 from previous warbonds coming back up. Likewise, if theres price increases on various $50-200 ships then that could save a chunk too. fwiw, Hull B should be worth picking up during IAE if they dont increase its price beforehand. Hull A went from $60 to $90, Hull C was $200, then 350, now $500. So Hull B wont be staying at $140, thats for sure, nor the $450 Hull D (cheaper than C atm).
Well worth picking up Freelancer DUR to Hull B CCU or 10 if it stays at $5. Would expect that to end up at $200 ($60 increase/saving), $250 is plausible with CIG.
