******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Yea worse case is 2025 Q3 assuming it takes 2 years to polish.

best case? 8-10 months it takes to polish so mid q2/q3 next year.

They are at a state where CP77 was back in 2019? ie when they first announced a release date(but got pushed back a year was it?)

One thing worth mentioning is that CIG have created there own type of DLSS....:O :O

The game will also be able to use DLSS and FSA from AMD as well so that should help with performance

Worst case has to be 2042 surely? :p

I say worst case is easily 2026, but feel 2025 is realistic goal if what they have revealed is true.

Yea defo. Exciting times indeed. I would say for u, watch the sq42 video posted earlier and also watch the star engine intro video(That should be uploaded soon in YT soon)

Don't forget Raytracing.... they are using AMD's GPU open, that's a good thing, if you're Nvidia or AMD, it means they are serious about people actually being able to run it, while i agree RTX in CP2077 looks best its also extremely unoptimized, i cynically think deliberately so to get you to spend more on the higher end Nvidia GPU's, which yes are the best RT GPU's but we can't all afford a 4090 for 60Hz 4K ultra RT

AMD's GPU open is a very extensive libry of the latest and greatest GPU accelerated tech and as CIG said its actually the one GPU programmers know best, a similar reason for the choice of Vulkan rather than DX12, its just better. They are doing it properly....

Another difference between AMD's GPU libraries and Nvidia's (what used to be Games Works) is in the name "GPU open" it is completely open and graphics programmers can do with it what they like, optimise it how they like, modify it how they like, they don't need any input or permissions from AMD, from AMD's perspective that's the whole point of it.

With Nvidia its all black box and locked up, you need Nvidia engineers to do anything with it and that comes with strings attached, something we all know Chris hates.

Its AMD who helped Epic Games make Unreal Engine 5 what it is....

The icing on the cake for AMD is if they can create a GPU that hands down beats whatever next card Nvidia releases. Sick and tired of how they do business tbh and i am hoping my next GPU is a AMD 8000 series and not a 5000 series.

I will grab whatever is the best gpu in time for SQ42

AMD's X3D CPU's run SC extremely well but that's far from unique to SC, not anymore.... As Steve Burk said (GN) "the 14'th Gen review has peaked our interest in the X3D CPU's again" they do extremely well in a lot of games now.

AMD GPU's don't run SC any better or worse than Nvidia compared to other games, i'm still surprised how Starfield runs worse on my ageing 2070S than Star Citizen does and yet the visual difference between those games is a great yawning chasm.
In CPU's for that game Intel do a lot better than usual vs AMD and of course it is an AMD sponsored game. Bethesda actually asked AMD to optimise it for them because the engine is so old it probably didn't work at all for Starfield without AMD's work on it.

Unreal Engine 5 has quite a lot of GPUOpen tech in it, again i don't see AMD unduly benefiting from that, so that's just not a given.

But yes i absolutely agree with the sentiment, Nvidia need a lot more competition.

Polishing the game is great but considering the state of the PU/PTU atm, there's an awful lot of polish needed to get it constant 60fps (at least) across the board. And that's ignoring the systems that are finalised yet or don't appear in a great state (master modes). I think we're two years away from having a solid launch.

I agree there's going to be a lot of 'polishing' I don't think they will be able to get away with releasing a SQ42 as a buggy mess like a lot of others do. Public opinion is already low and that will just crater it even more.

Don't confuse the PU and star citizen with sq42, they are not the same.

Sq42 doesn't have to deal with anything the persistence universe does, it has no networking to deal with everything is a self contained system.

For all the advanced systems of sq42 to work in the pu they need to be able to function across the world. If someone blows up a base on Pyro everyone else needs to see the same thing right down to the debris scattered around and with potentially hundreds or thousands of players that's a colossal task to achieve.

I think sq42 will be 1H24 with everything shown last night being in the PU by the end of 24 including the base building.

PU/PTU is way way more different that a single player SQ42....

Also, have you not notice already how smooth the arena commander plays when its disconnected from the main pu services/servers?

Also, the people who have played the pyro star system in the event itself have all said that teh framerates are way way better than in the pu/ptu.

The main issue and that has always been is not the actual rendering of the game and its physics. its the netcode/servers.

Also, The fact that they are going to start working on base building means that server meshing at that point is practically implemented and at least ready to be tested in the ptu because server meshing is a requirement for base building.

They wouldnt work on it if server meshing was still a pipe dream.

They weren't even running on the best GPU's

Ray's Guid streamed his session, he was getting 70 to 90 FPS, he asked the staff if they knew the system specs, Ryzen 7800X3D + Radeon RX 7800XT. so the GPU isn't that high end, its not like they were running 4090's....

4K BTW...

i am still shell shocked how they have managed to crack server meshing.

No other game has done it the way they have and if it works like the demo and we are able to shoot ballistic weapons through different meshes without any noticable delays/dysncs. thats a ******* game changer

Planet Side 2 has Static Server Meshing.

That suffers from two main problems, A, you can't shoot across servers and B, you can't even see people across servers.
There a PS2 videos floating about of people rounding corners and a whole ###### army just suddenly popping in to view.... :o

They fact that CIG mannaged to get it so that you can see people across servers and shoot them is monumental! again... doing it properly.

While it is awesome and all, let's not get too excited until we see it outside of a small test room :)
Agreed but I feel that this was the best easiest way to demonstrate it. Be difficult to demonstrate it in Stanton unless they paint a section of Stanton pink and the other blue to distinguish between the two servers lol

Sure, but that's not the point I'm making :)
We're talking about the difference between a very small scale closed test vs a heavily loaded live environment on a much bigger scale.

What we've seen is promising, but it's just a proof of concept.

Whilst the whole "shoot between servers" thing sound great. I kinda think it'll never play out like that. I doubt the final game will have server splits going that granularly. I suspect it'll be a whole bunker, or whole building etc being on a single server.

Roll on finishing work so I can catch up with all the videos I didn't stay awake for last night.
