******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Interesting footage from the event but why do all the ships now look like they are made from plastic Airfix kits ?

All very smooth surfaces and little detail, grime or scratches etc.

Anyway enjoy the next 4 years of polishing and optimisation. ;)

You mean the other way round?

Server meshing cant be released without replication layer being seperated.

I beleive that the rep layer will be split away from the DGS and be available to test in the preview channel. That was the original idea of the preview channel when they first announced it before citcom.

once its split, test it out, everything all good, release it in 3.22(thats the aim) or 3.21.x and then also add the crash recovery tech. Once those two are added then we are ready to mesh the servers together!!!

Going to be a fun ride for sure!
No ? I said server meshing Q1 to come out proper Q2/Q3. Replication layer comes mid November.

There's been some more information since the citizencon afterparty, including questions that CR answered and his reasoning for not giving a date for SQ42. Even though they have an internal date set as a deadline and its probably going to be sooner than some are suggesting.
I was there and thier was still announce for next CitCon when we spoke at the ap. By way the AP was awful. They took $60k and then gave no food or studio tour and were 1000% over capacity. The con was good the VIP worst thing ever paid for.

Hi guys. I backed this back in 2014 but haven't really been following progress in the past few years. Could you recommend any YouTube channels that are worth following for SC content? Or even any recent individual videos that would be good for noobs or people out of the loop for a while?

There are SOOOOOOOOO many reaction videos to the Star Engine demo and they all talk about how amazing it will be if they can actaully do it, like do what they are seeing in the video..... THEY HAVE NO IDEA!!!! :D

Oh.... and they all have a dig at Starfield.

Start with morphologist and space tomato

Don't think it's been mentioned but IAE (Intergalactic Aerospace Exposition) is in a couple weeks or so. Massive ship show in game where you can explore a ton of ships and rent them free (iirc). And buy them with real money as well if you want. ;)

JohnathanWinters has good videos on how to actually do things and win in game as well. Basic to advanced flying etc.

I'll be interested to see if they stick with the 'pace' of the game in SQ42 and how it'll be generally accepted by the general gaming population...things have moved on in most genres, with games are now fairly quick A-to-B with fast travel, etc.

Star Citizen as it stands is a very slow paced game. Getting from Hab -> Ship -> Travel -> Mission can sometimes be 20+ mins....flying from space to the surface can take a while and it's easy to smash into the ground if you try to rush it. This is fine for those who are sim-orientated, but those coming from games like No Mans Sky are going to find this pretty frustrating if they expect more of an action game as the recent showcase...well, shows. Of course, SQ42 will be a bit more structured, but that's not to say they won't still keep the travel (on foot/space/vehicle) in place.

I won't pay much attention to Leaks as I wanna experience it when it comes to live with my org buddies flying through the jump gates with a carrack or two!

I be interested to know what the framerates are like though if anyone can say?
I loaded it up yesterday and started the tutorial.
5900x with PBO + 200 sitting 4.8 - 5 ghz. Up to 80% usage on one core, generally lots of thread usage.
3080 @ 75% power limit 1850mhz. 70-90% usage. Clearly a cpu bottleneck.
Running around on station.
40 to 80 fps. Generally around 60 @ 1440p highest setting. Facecam tracking on, didn't really lower fps but did cause that single highest thread to be pinned at 100%.
Noticeable stutters but playable.

Crashed after ~10 or 15 minutes when I got to the second area and was faffing about trying to get a plane or if a hanger. Couldn't continue tutorial from where I left off, decided I'd wait a bit longer to give it another go.

Last time I tried it on 3.18 or 3.19 it was stuck below 30fps with low cpu and gpu usage and seemed server limited. So it's got a lot better.
Although I first tried it on tri sli 480gtxs it's been soooooo long lol.

Performance is improving as they are slowly migrating their rendering pipeline to vulkan, once fully converted fps should almost double in most situations add in the dlss and fsr they are also adding and yeah fps shouldn't be an issue for most people.
