Get volumetric cloud/effects off. makes a big difference.

Personally I prefer Microtech in general but Humbug seems emotionally attached to Seraphim station, I think it's his favourite death spot.

I've only really explored Area18 starting area and Lorville now, might give Microtech a whirl tonight then! I love being able to just hop in my ship and fly straight into space then QT straight to another system even if it does take a little while to get there.

The only attachment i have in that game is port Olisar i miss that being the default spawn! Oh and Tessa bannister.... bring her back

You setup Ads with a direct link to create a new account that has your referral code auto entered. Then you let google spam it out over the net and hope that people register with it and buy the game. Of course what happens is that far more people create accounts with your code but don't buy the game. The wording of the ads, who, where, when etc. is the fine tuning you need to do over time to maximise results. Each time someone clicks on the ad I get charged, that's opening the link not necessarily creating an account. I know guys that have put a lot more effort into it than I and every time there's a free fly they enable their ads and schedule it to tick over for the couple weeks.

If they use your code and don't buy their Prospects and Recruits if they buy a game pack. I have 64 prospects and only 12 recruits. I did really well the first time around and it's been a significantly worse ratio every other time. Think I've done it four (3?) times now to try and get the referral bonus ship they've had at events. First time around the goal was to get the Gladius, a $90 ship and it cost me a bit under £30 a couple years ago. Think I'm up to around the £40 mark now and unless there's a cool vehicle I doubt I'll do it again. I'd love a Glaive though.

The number of recruits you need to get ships in the PU significantly jump up after the Gladius (10>75>100). It's ignore it, slowly chip away at it over the years or be a streamer.

Yeah, that doesnt sound too bad actually. I've never properly looked into Google Ads, and the fact that it requires click-thru to charge is better than i expected, i figured it'd be charged per ad view, even if at 1/10th the cost, but at least every charge has a decent shot of converting into a prospect, and then its on CIG to become a backer.

The Gladius was my goal too, lol, ive just looked at my referrals... you were one of them :D My most recent in fact (#11), I got a bunch of prospects & recruits from 2016 when i was actively helping people with the game, and then next to nothing since. Did you get it from the referral generator site? or did you use my code around 2016 but not become a backer for many years?

I was? I don't remember. Guess I found a code from this thread then. The odds of getting yours from the generator seems very far fetched. :D

I found my ads ended up being very generic when there wasn't a specific event on for a vehicle giveaway. I'd need to check but I got a lot more clicks (therefore charges) than I did people that went and signed up. I didn't put a lot of effort in though.

I like the C1.

Its a good looking ship, it has a nice large bay for vehicles, a couple of beds, its fast and manoeuvrable for its size, as is synonymous with Crusader ships, 4X Size 3 gimballed guns which is really good, a remote size 5 turret, 4X size 3 missiles, and retractable VTOL's on the wing tips... so plenty of firepower to go with its agility.

The bad, it has a large footprint, its easy to hit from top and bottom and that size also makes it more difficult to find ground to land on, its massive wings are unnecessary but they do look good.

I'm surprised at the price, £125, that's a lot of money but in the context of Star Citizen that is a very good price, its Cutlas money and its a much nicer / better ship, its a very nice ship that's affordable or obtainable.

Speaking of, I saw ships come with insurance. Say you spend £100 on a ship and insurance expires when you check the latest alpha patch in ten years, if the ship blows up does that mean you lost the purchase? Or can you buy insurance in game.

Hey guys, I've been wanting to get back into flying sims for ages and now I've got my new system ( 7800x3d and 4090) I'm ready to go. Id like to get into sc, i already have x4 with all dlc and starwars squadrons but not played them yet I'm also interested in dcs, il and the other Sims i see msfs is also on game pass which i have.

I'm going to invest in a hosas system either virpil or vkb, hopefully get a good deal over black Friday and get some pedals with brakes.

My problem is i game in the living room from the sofa with a 55" oled tv. So I'm also going to need some way of setting this up, probably a flight sim chair with it all bolted to that.

Anyway, my questions are, What's the best way to get into sc? I don't mind spending some money as i plan on investing a lot of time into the game over the next few years.
Id also appreciate any info regarding a hosas setup.
Cheers

Virpil black Friday is until 26th Nov. It's unlikely you'll ever see them on sale until the next one so just a heads up as savings are significant.

Also adjust expectations regarding your system specs if playing at 4k (or probably even below), I have similar but even then I can did just below 40 in some places but it's not unplayable by any means. Plus I could always lower the resolution but that looks gross, or a few settings.

I am NOT a HOSAS expert but I have gone for two virpil alpha primes (purely as I like metal but probs not worth the extra over normal alpha) and two warbrd-d bases.
I got a z flight extension thing (not required) for my left hand so I can use it like a throttle, I intend to adjust the base so the throttle stays where I push it to allow nice and easy cruising.
At this time I am not bothering with pedals but that could change if I feel the need. Also note if you buy from virpil UK most of the stuff is on backorder and could take 4+ months.

It's currently a free fly week so maybe download it and see if you like it before buying. That said, you can get the cheapest 'pledge' package for just under £40 so not a big investment.

Oh and if you think you'll play flight Sims then consider a HOTAS instead, or if you got the funds and space consider a throttle as well. It will obviously be more immersive but the game plays fine with m+kB.

My plan so far was to go with pretty much what you have with 2 alphas with warbrds and the z extension instead of getting a throttle for the flight sims, but like you say i could always get a throttle at a later time, im not to bothered about having to wait as ive got loads of other games to get through. Saving 25% though is a massive difference if paying over 1k on gear.

No one knows what is with the insurance, again its legacy from way back when, the only thing we do know, because this is all they have consistently said about it is that you will never lose any real money item.
Ignore it, like the hangers you get with the ship you buy, it gives you a specific one. they no longer exist, we know know you get a procedural persistent hanger in game that's the same as the hangers currently in game, except you own it and you can fill it with all your crap....

Its not really a sim, there is skilled flying in it but its very much like arcade flying, its not MS Space Flight Sim. :)

Like this...

Considering the immersion they are going for, I wonder if you'll be able to have people in your hangar/accomodation later and play minigames like pool etc.
Where can I find out about all the planned stuff? I feel I need to read up a lot about it so I don't have to keep asking here.
Edit. Official website would be a good start, dumbass.

Also lol I saw that bomber I like was like £600.

There is a vast wealth of information, the trouble is most of it is buried in about 10 years of weekly Youtube videos, they have talked about persistent hangers and base building many times, the most recent one was a demo of the basics of base building in action, its not like Rust, its prefabs.
In the same video they talked about how you would populate your hanger, the cargo elevators.
Its worth subing to the Star Citizen channel, every week they have 'Inside Start Citizen' and 'Star Citizen Live' that's where they talk about what is going on.

Cargo elevators

The last part of that, following on from cargo elevators is about base building, watch it when you have half 15 minutes or so, its interesting. Development on it starts in the first weeks of the new year.

I'll give those a watch tomorrow, in bed now. I'm fine with arcade style, id rather be flying about shooting stuff than learning 1000 controls tbh.

That's more what its about :)

Yeah, insurance is a bit unclear *exactly* how it works, some of the stuff they have said hasnt quite clarified things as hoped.

We know that ship insurance is just 1/3 of the insurances you'll likely need. Insurance will also be available for upgrades and for cargo (im actually not sure if that is specifically cargo, or if it means all belongings, i assume the 3 cover everything though).
Insurance shouldnt be particularly expensive, i think its more a money sink to add realism and to explain why you're getting it back rather than losing it forever. I cant recall for certain, but i think it is possible to REFUSE insurance and lose your ship, but it'd be an intentional act, not something you'd find out you forgot to renew. We know it'll be cheap, so realistically its unlikely you'd be unable to pay for it, and i think CIG would rather you went into debt to renew insurance rather than lose your ship.

There are 'LTI' (Lifetime Insurance) offers for concept ships & newly released ships, but only if its the first time its gone on sale. If its been on sale before, they'll likely have an improved insurance (ie 2yr).
The timeframe is supposed to be real time, but what i dont think has been fully clarified is whether 1mo is clock in, clock out for 720hrs of gameplay, or whether its Oct 20th to Nov 20th. I think the only thing we know is it isnt in-game months, which kinda feels like the most suitable way to do it.

'Ignore it' is a fair response, although its worth noting that CIG often does offers which give FAR more insurance for your ship, IAE being a perfect example (Warbond offers have +120mo/10yr insurance, so it stacks) and while its not worth worrying about, sometimes its possible to melt (refund for store credit) your ship and rebuy it during an offer and lose nothing. Im building a CCU chain at the moment for a free ship i got years ago that only has 2mo insurance, and i've picked up 2x warbond CCUs which are discounted by $10-25 as well.

As Humbug said, the site is a bit of a nightmare, typically its easier to ask google and get the thing you wanted than navigate it, but obviously you need to know what you want to do that. They do so much content that it just buries everything.

Yeah, you picked the most expensive of the Hercules ships (C2 = $400, M2 = $520, A2 = $750) :D
The other ship, the Galaxy, is $380 plus $80-100 for a module to do either hauling, medic or refining. It'll also go up to about $450-500 by the time its released. Its also pretty big (200m) and wont be great without a crew.

On a separate subject, i tried, and failed, to pick up an Idris-P yesterday. Was there for all 3 waves, the first was sold out in about 45sec, the other 2 were gone in about 20-30sec and at best 10-15sec for the final wave. Had it sitting in my cart with the credit etc already applied to the order, just refreshing the page, all i had to do was click confirm and then agree to the terms, and it just had a long think and bounced it. The Warbond version wasnt far behind either, likewise the Javelin. I actually waited till 8am for the final wave and went to bed in quite the mood :D Will have to wait till May for Invictus now, the problem is the longer it takes to secure one, the more of that credit will get spent on speculative CCUs i wont want to melt for another one in a million lottery.

Yea eventually u will have mini games added into the game.

They also have plans to add some kind of virtual hud in your ship where when connected to it, it will launch arena commander and you get to play various game modes on it while your character is in the verse still for those long travel times
