******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

If in doubt buy in game only after getting the cheapest package.

I've actually really enjoyed earning in-game more than I expected so I'll lock away funds behind non-released ships and stick to a couple of basic ones for now.

I'm just trying to get to the expo so I can rent a 400i to play with!

keep having 30Ks before I get there, or even worse after I land on Microtech and before I can get to the event. Attempt number 5 coming up..

Cost, warbond is new money - you can't use store credit (from melting ships, reclaiming existing purchases)
"standard Edition" can be store credit. But they have additional cost as you aren't adding anything to funding.

I really like the C1 Spirit and 400i. I want to drop to 1 ship so need to pick.

Everything else is likely to get melted so I can get my privateer back on buyback next time I have a token. Time to earn the rest in-game.

I'm hoping the Constellation retains some sort of advantage over the Zeus other than some of them having snub fighters. As it looks on paper like the Zeus will be vastly better especially the CL - with a tractor beam that can load all cargo, which the Constellation can't ever do due to it's current configuration.

Guys if you need a discord to ask random questions feel free to join ours, no need to be active on voice if you are shy obviously and no pressure to actually join the org in-game, we genuinely do not care.

Evo Replication Layer test underway as of 25 minutes ago, testing 1 DGS per shard at the moment, tomorrow it may be scaled up to more servers per shard. Could well be that we get static meshing very soon and dynamic meshing shortly after as the ability to scale it depends entirely on getting step 1 working fine, plugging in more servers should be relatively straight forward.

Damn it I'm still patching for it. :(

I like the 400i, most of the smaller ones but realised I hate the bridge placement on 400i and 890J. The 600i not so much.

Origin's smaller craft I really like though the 100 and 300 series. Got a soft spot for the 315p!

Posting some useful links:

Cool for comparing ships:

Good for messing with the CCU/fleet stuff if you have wasted money like me by spending too much on a game:

Good for weapon config etc. I hardly know how to work it and tend to just use it to find out where stuff can be bought :D

Jumping into the middle of this so might have the wrong end of the stick/not sure if your last bit is sarcasm but there are several games online which maintain a persistent game state such as Eve Online.

Depends how you define persistent game state. I'd argue that Ultima Online etc were doing it in the last 90s. If the servers when down there would be a short roll back of a handful of minutes but recovery time was pretty rapid and it was exactly as you were with millions of independent objects around the game world saved in state on shards with server meshing - however the meshing was very clear and you could actually abuse the boundary of them as not everything meshed between servers e.g. players, inventory etc would but spells cast from one server would stop at the boundary.

It's really how it's done, frequency of saved/replicated state and time to recover that really need to improve.

This is my problem too, I game from the sofa (not to the TV) only to be "sociable" with the wife. Currently using a lap pad thingy (has a fixed cushion underneath) but obviously I can't use the sticks. I've been looking at the Couchmaster but I think its still a little too small to hold a laptop, mouse and sticks. Been thinking of getting one of those z frame or c frame bed desks, you can get them 1.2m wide so should be wide enough and even if they aren't I would probable get those clamp on mouse pad extensions or even get official joystick desk mounts (but not entirely sure if they'd fully fit tbh). If I want to use my sticks I usually just play with the laptop on my desk in my office but then the wife gets the hump as I'm "ignoring" her lol. I can easily sink 4 or 5 hours on a Saturday/Sunday playing SC.

I recently sold my warthog and pedals and went back to KB/M. Honestly not missing it so far. Switching from sticks to KB/M for FPS was also a pain at times as well as cables all over the place which is annoying when you WFH and your desk is also where you work all day.

I've recently tinkered with flying using a wireless xbox elite controller, it's actually not bad, some people have tried steam controllers too. I think longer term I'll likely go back to some form of stick controller but .. I hate cables so not sure how I'll manage that. I'm in no rush though.

I'd snap up wireless joysticks if I could find decent ones but the only options are garbage or insanely priced.

e.g. Logitech Freedom 2.4 Cordless Joystick

I have a USB hub stuck under my desk for peripherals and then I've secured the cables running underneath the desk, my sticks are mounted on monstertech mounts which I just slide into place when I want to use them, keeps the actual desk tidy and cable clutter free.
Exactly how I use to do them, still hated it but I sometimes need a lot of desk space so I was forever having to move them around, under etc.

Cordless is the way long term I think. Although to be honest I'm actually enjoying KB/M now.

The idea behind PAGAN was we were basically "religious zealots of technology formed centuries ago through common interest..." You know a bit of back story for the roleplayers.

In other words we hung out on OCUK and played games together. Not that any of us actually roleplays but I found it amusing to write. :)

I got Starfield "for free" with my overpriced GPU. I've 100% completed it.

It was OK, but very copy/paste feeling and over all a huge missed opportunity. As far as I can tell a majority of those playing it have ditched it after a couple of weeks so I'm not sure people are happy to make excuses anymore. Steam stats for Starfield are pretty poor seeing as it's a Bethesda game. Fallout 4 has 50% of the concurrent players on average as Starfield these days.
