****** Official World of Warships Thread ******

Well including my CAT, and CBT testing time - just passed 3k of batles in this.

Still great to chill out after a bad spell on WoT.

After the last wipe I'm doing the jap cruiser's, and loving the Minakaze :) such a stealthy little killer that bugger is. Word of advice don't upgrade the Torps :) the 1st ones are just epic.

I do want my Cleaveland back and Des Moins though :(

Still waiting for the fully unified account to happen. few post's have the trademarked WG 'Soon' atatched :( Should note here - Prem time is shared, but Gold and free exp isn't yet

Loads of free exp and gold sat on both account's ready to get me a t9 I think just about lol

not to mention the 20 mill credits I have now.

I wouldn't see Gold and Free XP coming across anytime soon.

Reason of which is one, people tend to try most of the lines, which means more slots are needed than what is provided. People will tend to shell out for this..

Second: From what I've heard, they wanted to avoid people going straight up the tiers using free XP from the other games. It's a case of people will do that, not know how to play and then complain about how it's unfair and not balanced. Same thing as someone jumping straight into WoT with a lowe or a T34.

Downloaded this over the weekend, and my lad and I are thoroughly enjoying it. It's kinda like an ETS2 version of WarThunder - quite chilled scoping out the targets, and then carnage once locked on.

Gone American, and have unlocked battleships - great guns, but too slow for me (but interests my lad). Cruisers and destroyers is where the fun is for me. At least we get to unlock both paths (Battleships and Cruisers).

Are submarine's planned? Could be slow, but deadly...

No submarines - apparently they are unable to balance them in the game.

Did suggest to Tuccy that they do a World of Submarines game, basically the flight model from Warplanes, is almost submarine ish - jsut needs slowing down etc.....

Could be intresting

Submarines will never come for a simple reason, they are just far too slow.

Most Submarines during this period travel at silly speeds, such as ~15-20 knots above water and 4-8 knots submerged.

Been playing this and it's good fun.

I had been driving the first USA battleship around and it seems pretty good.

Just unlocked the first speedboat with torpedoes though, i'm getting blown up pretty quick but it is fun zipping around with it

Key with destroyers, know your detection range (both surface and air) found under concealment on the right hand side in port. Know your torp range and use the terrain to your advantage. I'd have the extra UI information (that you get by pressing Alt by default) turned on all the time in options to aid with this.

Also pick up Situation Awareness as your first Destroyer captain skill, if you've played World of Tanks its like Sixth sense, but basically just displays a warning icon on the screen all the time you're spotted by the enemy.

If there are planes around turn off your AA (if you have any) by pressing P as this will help you go undetected. Obviously if planes, particularly dive bombers get within aerial spotting range of you, turn it back on.

If you're playing US destroyers you'll need to get close enough for them to spot you before your torps will be in range so you need to use islands for surprise attacks. Avoid firing your guns unless you're spotted, can get a kill, or the targets in the area are fully occupied with other ships, as firing them increases you detection range. Japanese destroyers often have a longer torpedo range than their detection range so you can play undetected in the area between the two distances and still land torpedo hits if you play well.

Also if you didn't know already press X to target an enemy ship, this will give you a white launch guide for the torps, obviously if the enemy ship changes his speed or heading then this changes so sometimes its best to launch some on the guide and some slightly off in case they take evasive action. If you're close and undetected you can just launch everything you've got and watch the fireworks :P

Once torps are selected, pressing 3 again will also swap between wide and narrow spreads.

Brilliant advice thank you very much.

I managed to sink a battleship from full health with the first speedboat/destroyer. I'd prefer one that can launch all the torps from one side though as this boat only does half from each side

You'll probably end up being disappointed when it changes to top down view since on aircraft carriers all you're playing is a top down RTS.

Sigh then it'll loose it's Warship charm. Will go down another route then and leave the carriers till last.

Just thought about something, when I'm playing the battleship sometimes i'm targeting a boat and it will just vanish for a few seconds and sometimes randomly reappear, sometimes not. I presume this it the detection range?

Just unlocked the first Japanese 6-inch gun cruiser. Man it's a dog to turn! :D

Might have to put a few more matches in and unlock a destroyer to give it a bash. Much more fun playing with a friend though.

I also have a key for something (unsure what, but extra content) that a friend gave me. Any idea how I use it? I couldn't see anywhere obvious...

At the moment Jap DDs are great as there are so many noobs sailing in straight lines. If you know your spotting/torp distances you can just own from stealth. Great fun.

Not sure whether I like torpedoes I think its a bit of a faff to line them up and fire meanwhile someone can start hitting you.

Would much prefer it if they had implemented it like Battlestation Midway/Pacific.

One thing I have noticed is that if you are getting hammered sometimes you can just go to Full and weave out of harms way. Few times its happened and I managed to limp away and seem to get forgotten then round an island come back and get a couple of ships.

Also I have noticed a trend of "campers" already. Not sure whether you can call them campers on water ? Players who move their ship right up close to an island and hide behind it. Problem is they forget about their masts which when you approach the island you can see them above the hills on the island and it gives them away. Then as you come round the island from the other way you can catch them unawares.
