Oh Dear, more ATI 58xx mysteries!!

you can flash GPUs with a different manufacturers, as long as its identical PCB design.

for example my two HD4980 are simpler to asus HD4890, if you took the heatsink off they would look exactly the same, don't mean to say it would work....

my ingnorance lol, whos complaining there card isnt working after a bios flash with different manufaturer

you're missing the point here.

All cards released so far have been of reference design. therfore are all the same apart from stickers on the cases.

Flashing of an Asus bios to a sapphire card is fine as both cards are exactly the same regardless of sticker.

therfore it shouldn't cause an issue

Furthermore, I reverted back to the Gigabyte bios which I saved before flashing it to the ASUS. The problem occurs regardless of which bios.

anyone know if they are identical components or is it a guess

Mate, call it a day, the hole is nearly too big to climb out of, really, an undertaker would be proud!

lol, i wouldnt be complaining but all this bios flashing of new cards cant be good, i mean if every card was the same why is there not just one bios for all manufacturers:confused:
simple really

i stand by what i said earlier

you flash your bios, you take your chances

I was going by the old gen, which are a lot easier to see if they are the same. HD58XX are encased so you have to take it off to see the PCB, I would say they would be the same as they have just recently came out

after a certain period of time companies like sapphire, asus etc are free to have custom deign onces, with different power management system/coolers etc there are differences between them even as ref, like some have a slightly higher voltage than others etc thats about it

Unfortunately in this case, what you have said is based on your ignorance and not your knowledge on the matter. Therefore it bares little meaning in a forum such as this.

there is..

if u check the bios version number on each card you'll see they using same bios

i use driver cleaner and never had a problem.

what problems could they cause?

i always uninstal from add/remove programmes and then run driver cleaner before instaling new drivers or rolling back to old ones

They were hinting at Windows 7 may not put files in the same places as windows vista.

Personally i haven't run any driver cleaners on w7 until there is one released which is advertises to be compatible with it :p

Edit: Incidently Driver Sweeper (guru 3d) 2.0.5 now has windows 7 support

Follow up to my above post. I've just changed my PCI frequency in the bios to 100 (was 101) then tried Crysis again.

This was the result in under 5 minutes of gameplay. Computer remains on, fans and everything still going. Absolutely no response from the PC. have to restart.

I get this on a 5770 that has never been flashed or run at anything but stock (I have a thread on it here as well .. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18076399).

Tried with both the drivers, tried clean Windows install, everything.

Interestingly when it crashes like that or the driver install reboots the system, the display is way to the right. I can't use the monitor's settings to re-center the screen and I literally have to power it off and on to get it to re-center.

That's not a driver issue I would think

Let me think... My Sapphire 5850 has been working perfectly for the last two weeks since I got it. I haven't experienced ANY issues in Windows 7. Windows Experience Index gives me 7.7 out of 7.9 for graphics (as it would mean anything...). I played Crysis Warhead at Enthusiast settings, AAx4@1680x1050 smoothly. The Radeon even works with GeForce PhysX card I bought recently (despite having few smaller issues with the latter, as you have to "patch" Nvidia drivers forcing it to work). The temps are low, the card doesn't make any strange noises, fan is set-up manually by me in MSI Afterburner so it never goes above 35% and the temps are still below 65*C at load. When I switch all fans low in my build, I can barely hear it working. I didn't even have to touch Sapphire Drivers' CD - just downloaded official final drivers for 58** from AMD website - 9.10 Catalysts with CCC.

Did I receive a different card than people complaining?
