Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

I think the rumours are that they have done this.

Also cannot wait for this event :D

Isn't the rumours just adding a share button on the front and a touchpad on the back similar to the Vita? Hardly a major redesign :(

They should do something similar to the MadCatz MLG controller with interchangeable sticks.

I have no idea, I've heard about a touch pad being added to the existing one to a major overhaul, honestly not kept up with the controller side of things xD We'll find out next week though maybe! :D

what is wrong with the standard playstation pad style ?

Personally I don't think anything is wrong with it, but I assume after 3 generations of it people are getting bored with it. Although saying that think back to the backlash the original design of the PS3 controller got haha.
But I think people prefer the 360 pad? I think... can't speak for them but personally it's the most comfortable controller I've ever held. It is probably what is influencing their decisions? Even the Wii U pro pad and maybe but not so much ouya pad can be seen to have influences from it.

I bet Sony did zero market research in the west when designing the DualShock. It's clearly meant for smaller Asian hands. The 360 pad is perfect apart from the awful D-pad.

what is right with it? its not exactly comfortable anymore, the sticks are awful and move way to much with no decent resistance or texture nubs on them. the triggers are **** (so much so that people often bought adapters to use L2,R2 without fingers slipping)

it just needs to be gone and Sony need to come up with a modern pad.

I'm on the fence between the two consoles (I have a PS3 and 360) If all other things were equal I'd prefer the next Xbox just for the control pad, a Sony pad redesign is a must imo, I find the dualshock just horrible to hold. Crappy sticks, crappy triggers, crappy ergonomics.

fingers slipping ??? maybe people shouldnt eat stuff while gaming or wash up a bit :p

best pad iv ever had was a madkats snes pad was about 25% larger than the standard pad was great.

as for the ps4 pad i dont mind the overall design of the pad but making it a big bigger would be great. as long as they dont do anything too stupid like the atari jaguar pad which had 30 or so buttons.

Personal preference though, i prefer the dual shock over other pads, if it isnt broken dont fix it! To be honest dual shock is playstations calling card, i can see them making minor modifications but i reckon it will look similar

I thought the PS1 pad was great. For me it went downhill when they stuck the analogue controls on it.

They were clearly an after thought (seeing as though they were added 3/4 of the way through the PS1 life cycle) and they felt like it.

They are in the wrong place, they don't have enough grip or an indent to stop your thumbs slipping off. The l2/r2 analogue buttons are also poor compared to all other trigger buttons (from the dreamcast to 360 and everything in between).

The controllers aren't so bad that they have put me off using my PS3 but the 360 controller is so much better.

There doesn't seem to be any split opinion regarding the 360 controller but there is a massive split with the dualshock. That says it all to me really.

I have girl size hands and it's still a problem. The size is the least of the issues, worst offenders are awful analogue sticks with massive deadzones, too little tension and poor placement. And then the triggers are crap aswell.

FWIW With regards to 4K. The next consoles will absolutely output at 4K resolution but won't render games at that res. Guaranteed, though it may come later on just like 360 1080p support. The first hurdle is HDMI 1.4a only does 30hz 4K currently.

Have never gotten on with the ps3 pad. It's so awkward for me the console is no fun to play. Convex analogue sticks? In lower centre of the pad?

If it doesn't change dramatically, like the ps3, the ps4 won't even be a consideration for me

A week tomorrow and I bet we'll all be crying into our mugs of cocoa.:(

This.

I'm trying not to read any articles relating to speculation on what the reveal could be as it just dampens my excitement when reading that it could be things like Sony unveiling their Gaikai service, a new model Vita, etc. (which clearly pale in comparison to the possibility of getting confirmation of the PS4's specs and such).
