Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

Guaranteed launch unit? I remember the mad rush for the PS3 when retailers where being drip-fed units.

Could be, but given the time to launch i'd wait. I walked into HMV and picked up someones second preorder on 360 launch day after a chat with the store manager, so it can be done :p

It's best policy to wait till after E3 then order imho.

This.

I also remember when the 360 was released. You couldn't get one for love nor money as it was the first next gen.

If PS4 is first out, the situation (particularly if it's around £300) will be worse.

No way in the world will you be able to walk into a shop on launch day and buy one with no preorder.

Posted on AMD's site...

What exactly is a semi-custom APU? Let me elaborate:

At the most basic level, an APU is a single chip that combines general-purpose x86 central processing unit (CPU) cores with a graphics processing unit (GPU) and a variety of system elements, including memory controllers, specialized video decoders, display outputs, etc. Our semi-custom solutions take the same treasure trove of graphics; compute and multi-media IP found in our APUs, and customize them for customers who have a very specific high-volume product that could benefit from AMD’s leading-edge technologies.

In the case of the PS4, we leveraged the building blocks of our 2013 product roadmap – the same technologies you find in the latest AMD APUs powering PCs, ultrathin notebooks and tablets – to create a solution that incorporates our upcoming, low-power AMD “Jaguar” CPU cores with next-generation AMD Radeon™ graphics delivering nearly 2 TFLOPS of compute performance! This unique APU architecture enables game developers to easily harness the power of parallel processing to fundamentally change the console gaming experience. Not only creating the opportunity for new possibilities in software design, but also faster and more fluid graphics.

This is going to be a very exciting year for gamers, especially for those with AMD hardware in their PCs and consoles, as we have even more game-changing (pun intended) announcements still to come.

Look for some more exciting things happening at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in March when we will provide even more info on how we are working with game developers to make AMD the hardware of choice for running the best games!

I did, at the Trafford Center of all place.

Showed more than i thought they would this far out, the specs are about what was leaked apart from 8GB DDR5 (we can drop the G) and info about custom ICs running in the background for downloads/uploads. Some of the social/MP gaming sounded cool, liked the idea that you will be able to make notes for friends in games, reminded me about the messages in Demon souls/zombieU.
Gaikai stuff sounded good if it all gets implemented as shown, like the idea that the PS4 becomes a streaming service to Vita for seemingly any PS4 game, and the auto trial for demos.
Controller looks interesting, wont know how good till we try it out i guess, also sounded like they are using the new vibrate tech mentioned a few years ago.
Games looked good, the new KZ looked good for an early demo on stage, its going to be played live on stage on Jimmy Fallon tonight for those interested.
Not surprised with no Price/Date/ console etc i expect with GDC,E3, Pax, Gamescon and TGS before its release we will see more and more of console/games over the coming months.

For a bit of fun I thought I would compare some launch day(roughly) game trailers from PS2 to PS3 to PS4

PS2 - Timesplitters (its hard finding a decent trailer)

PS3 - Resistence: Fall of Man:

PS4 - Killzone Shadow Fall

It is really interesting to see how far graphics and scale has come :D Gameplay hasn't changed all that dramatically though! It is also hard finding decent trailers that are comparable so don't see this as a massive comparison more of a then vs now, mighty impressive I must say!

Game will still be here. Even if they shut shops down, they will do anything to stay open until xmas for the next gen to rake in the cash for them.
