Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

Wow, console fan boyism, apple vs android fanboyism, this thread has it all, we even have controller fan boys!

Please can we just leave it out, it's boring having to read through ****.

:p

Point I was trying to make was Android is bound to be very popular due to being available at virtually every price point whereas Apple only cater toward the premium price bracket, this isn't on topic but then we weren't the ones who randomly decided that Android on a Playstation 4 would be epic. If this isn't what you meant anyway then please forgive me, I'm off to bed now. :D

I know, and it was/is a very valid point

Just pulling your leg:)

Controller fanboyism is based on facts though not baseless opinion, I can't help it that the ps3 controller doesn't work well in my hands :( hope the new one will be better :)

why have we gone into a android vs apple debate? wtf? and half of whats being spouted here is utter nonsense (no surprise!) clever guys real clever.

no they dont! just because an iphone is called an iphone doesnt mean they have ranges for various budgets hence why they still have 3 in circulation at any one time.

I have to admit, Im like you, while I have never thought the Sony controllers fit well in my hands, I still much prefer Sony's iterations of the actual console itself

I owned both and fortunately the 360 controller worked well - ps2 generation sucked majorly with no real alternative (in a hardcore sense) though. Great machine and inability to enjoy it ;(

I'm interested to see what Sony do with PSN. My guess is that they'll keep a very basic service that offers online gaming for free but not much else, and then do an enhanced PSN+ that offers all the other services.
MS would have to improve Xbox Live gold as it's very poor value when compared to PSN+.

Looks good to me!

Shame the CPU is only Jaguar based but chip TDP would be insane if they used big cores. :D

What graphics library will the PS4 use? Will everyone start moving back to OpenGL now? (esp with Steam on Linux etc)

Personally I'm also hoping for OpenGL, which considering the hardware of the PS4 would mean that "ports" to the pc won't really be ports anymore and might just need keyboard and mouse compatibility. If OpenGL is used, it could also mean more games make it to OS X and Linux, which would be great.

Steam on the Playstation might soon take off even more.

How well is the vita doing? :P hehe.

Vita would have probably done a lot better had it used android and able to access and play all the android games from the device.

There is literally no reason at all for Sony to use Android on the PS4 and Vita, none at all.

People aren't gong to buy a Vita just to play cheap Android games.

I noticed you mentioned Angry Birds though, interestingly enough must have the people who are critical of the Vita know nothing about it.

Angry Birds is available for the Vita already.

What android games are worth playing?

The Vita is a good handheld, the only reason it isn't doing well is because of the lack of good games. Terrible touch screen android games wouldn't fix that.

The Vita has plenty of good games available for it.

Its biggest issue is its price, it has a lot going for it outside of the price.

Another issue is that a lot of its good games are digital only, so people who don't already have one, think that the boxed games are the only ones available.

People who have Vitas know that there are enough good games out on it. More is better of course. I've got more than 30 games for my Vita. About 20 of them are "native" Vita games and the rest are PS1 classics and PSP games.

I'm personally very satisfied with my Vita, the only thing I want to be able to do on it is to play emulators, GBA ones especially.

Only if you don't buy any games, PSN+ has made me stop buying games on the PS3 and just get the free ones, I doubt as a business model it would be good if the majority started doing that :)

This isn't really how it works, and ports aren't ever really ports either.

Porting the console version doesn't really happen. PC versions are always actual PC versions, originally developed and compiled for PC.

95% of the time, people misuse the term "console port" to mean something completely different to what it actually means. A shoddy PC version of a game isn't "because console ports" it's because it's a shoddy version where the devs just can't be bothered and call it a day as soon as it's functional.

It rarely has anything to do with consoles directly. Like low res textures. It's not because of consoles, it's because the devs are being lazy (or due to publisher constraints) and they don't want to create higher quality assets like meshes, textures and so on for the PC version. This is what happened with Crysis 2, Crytek were lazy with it, rather than it being because of consoles.

A PS4 game won't be natively compatible with and run on a PC just because the uses similar hardware and OpenGL, there's much more to it than that.

To put it into perspective, the PS3 uses a form of OpenGL already.

Surely the main diference with the PS3 is that it uses the Cell architecture and not an x86 one, which would make it all far more easier than it has been.

It will make it easier to develop games for the PS4, definitely but the mistake you are making is that you are assuming they a game is completed for the PS3, then converted to run on a PC.

This isn't how it works. Multi platform games are generally developed for each platform specifically.

There's a large amount of shared content of course like textures, imagery, sounds, models/meshes but the actual coding part is all compiled specially for each platform, so as I said, ports don't really actually happen very often at all.

This is where the lazy part comes in. Some devs leave it at that and leave the PC version with the low quality assets that they made for console versions rather than making more detailed models, textures, shaders and even sometimes audio as well as adding in proper mouse and keyboard support, and things like fully featured graphics/sound options or key bindings.

Is there still going to be 8GB of RAM? I feel like it's all a dream and I'm going to wake up at any minute and there's only going to be 4GB.
