Playstation 4 being announced February 20th?

About 1% of the games are cross platform, I'd hardly call the PS3 cross platform.

I'd love more games to allow cross platfrom co-op like Portal 2 did, was great playing that on PC with a PS3 friend :)

why wouldnt you, it does it. what more does it need to do ??

also dust 514 is cross platform and cross game which is something new.

But its built as cross platform by the developer rather than Sony as the console platform owner, nor is it anywhere near a ubiquitous process. Clutching at straws there really.

thats how its always been though, if games arnt made to take advantage of it, how else would it happen ?
Youre putting a lot of emphasis on a milestone and construding its a console feature rather than it just being an individual event. Its not really a feature to pull out as a differentiator as I thought the 360 was first with Shadowrun? No one really says PS3 gaming is Mouse and KB compatible when theres just one single game that uses it (UT2K3 IIRC)

EDIT: Realistically unless its an IP owned by the console owner I doubt the benefits to them would be great enough to open up their respective online services to such usage. No doubt Sony werent financially worse off when Epic and Valve knock on their door and MS really was pushing Vista at the time of Shadowrun. It wasnt really anything nice to do for gamers...

and around and around we go.
Not really if the crux of your argument is that its a feature why hasnt Sony/MS or other developers attempted the same? I can count on one hand how many games have ever existed as a PC/console cross platform - why is that? MS is in a great place to implement it with XBL and GfW and its not like they dont know how to build an online service...

There's always whinging that PC games have better control with the keyboard/mouse but it's more like the coding is tricky/devs don't want to invest the resources.

crux of my argument, i started out answering a question someone asked about weather it would be cross platform or not. now your arguing it for the sake of it ?

end of the day can consoles play games cross platform, yes. and i said only if the games are made to do so.

Oh I dont disagree, I just want to understand why GAC thinks its a feature other than the situation just suited both the developer and the console owner at the time (most likely financially). The capabilities there, the generes are there that allow comparable input systems (driving games, sports games etc) - I just dont believe it falls into a feature underused or a missed opportunity, but just a single event.

Fair play I missed the start of the conversation, just dont see it ever really being considered a feature nor enough to extrapolate what could happen next gen. I guess using your reasoning the PS3 can play using Mouse and KB then. I really wonder if the Dreamcast would have done better if Sega had marketed it as such considering Quake was cross platform - quite an interesting thought...

EDIT: Actually you were probably better to answer that question with the specific games rather than saying 'the PS3 and PC are', its near enough misrepresentation.

Do you guys reckon we will see the Witcher 3 within a year of consoles release?

Someone also needs to make a mass effect type of game, not sure ME4 is a good idea but a new IP will probably be best. Guess we will see DA3 coming to consoles soon too but not holding any hope for that.

Yep without a doubt imo, I wouldn't be surprised to see a simultaneous release this time around.

Yep a simultaneous release seems like, but not sure how far the game is away. Weve not seen any gameplay footage, no preorder information or a release date.

Edit: Seems you are correct

The Witcher 3 will be out sometime next year on "all high-end platforms available."

LOL, I just wanted to stop you pair arguing. :D
Did you ever get the MP trophy in Res2 ;)

I do think some people just need to reconsider/reinterpret their thoughts as not straightforward, if theres pretty much unanimous questioning of it - debating is one of the finer things of civilisation ;)

The one you didnt like but kept playing it for a few weeks just to get that trophy - now thats effort :D

Actually that brings me on to a good point - I really hope the new consoles start using the data gathered in trophys/gamerscore to do things other than to arbritarily incentivise gaming per se.

Ive never understood why not fully completing a prequel or completing a rare achievement/trophy doesnt unlock something cool in the sequel (or maybe make a piece of DLC free) - it really feels like a lost opportunity - I know Uncharted 3 had something based on what you did on Uncharted 2. I just loved the simple mechanic with Psycho Mantis in MGS, Im sure games today could do the same with trophy/gamerscore data in such interesting ways.
