Plusnet Discussion Thread

I bought an Asus DSL-AC68U the other day so I'm good in that area.

I'm looking forward to slightly better pings though as I've read Plusnets internal routing doesn't all go through Sheffield like BT's seems to. Others who've switched have reported 10ms lower pings :)

I've noticed there's a pro add on for plusnet, is this worth the extra £5 a month? I work from home a lot using an FTP so I'm hoping download/upload speeds aren't gimped.

The Pro add-on is a legacy option targeted at ADSL connections. AFAIK there's no real benefit of having it on a FTTC connection. The traffic management that Plusnet does apply shouldn't cause you any problems (if you even notice it).

speedtest site is reporting my ISP as INFONET Services Corporation

My line was down for quite a few hours between BT deactivating and plusnet activating so maybe that caused the drop in speeds and increased my interleave depth even though I'm still on fastpath apparently.

Not impressed with plusnet so far, I'm getting 60 ping on CSGO servers whereas my mate on ADSL is getting 30 ping.

Whoever said you get lower pings with plusnet than BT due to their internal routing was talking nonsense :p

Maybe you are on a bad gateway, my ping is very good for my line.

Guessing there's no way to change this?

My ping to bbc is 18ms

Ping to the BBC seems normal really for where you live. All plusnet traffic has to go through gateways in london before going onto the internet so no matter where you live the traffic is routed through london first.

As for changing your gateway you need to drop your session and start a new one. If you have a modem / router as separate devices disconnect the modem cable from your router wait 10 sec or so and connect it again. This will connect to plusnet's network again and most likely put you on another gateway. However as you are not disconnecting the phone line from the modem you will not get hit by the dlam.

http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/ shows you what gateway your on

PlusNet has been running very bad the past few days. :(

Today had a ping of 129ms Down speed 0.55mbs and up speed of 8mbs.

Just tested now ping 22ms Down /3.59mbs up /0.40mbs. Its all over the place.

If is this carries on they can go stick it where the sun don't shine. :(

Mines been awful as well, I'm getting major lag in CSGO where the game lags out for a few seconds.

Did a ping test and I was getting 30+ms jitter :/

Have you actually spoken toPlusnet? It's possible they may not be aware there's an issue. What's your trained in speed from the Router?

Speaking with someone now and being told 61ms ping with 33ms jitter isn't too bad, I thought plusnet support was actually decent unlike the BT script monkeys.

Gaming is impossible at the moment.
