Plusnet Discussion Thread

They just switched me over, no need for an engineer or anything.

^That...

Since you already have an active fibre service they won't send an engineer over, so all you need to do is wire up what equipment you have, put the username and password into the router (the username is *username*@plusdsl.net (*username* is the username you used to create your account) and the password is also the one you entered when creating your account) and once the switchover has been done you'll be good to go.

Do you need an engineer visit to change the faceplate if you are upgrading from standed adsl?

I would really like to run the fibre off an extension socket as my master is not in the best place. The only problem being that the extension socket is not a normal faceplated socket. Its like a media electrical plate with just a standard phone connector end like the end of a micro filter

Depends on the ISP you're going with. Some (Talk Talk, BT, Sky are the ones I know of) do a 'remote activation' where the engineer goes to the cab only and you self install the Router. Some still do the Engineer visit who can install a 'Data Extension kit' which I believe you can buy yourself.

In your case the media plate may work but you might lose some speed and/or stability.

Hey, Looking to get Plusnet Fiber, What Router does it come with? Is it worth getting a new one? (I have a LOT of devices, PC, iPad, iPhone x2, Mac, HP microserver, Apple TV, Chrome cast etc.)

Getting Plusnet's router is good in a way as Openreach will give you an HG612 (they're crazy expensive these days), which is a very well regarded VDSL modem.

You'll get an ECI modem not a huawei modem since OR don't supply them anymore.

I'm on the PlusNet unlimited fibre, loving it!

My cabinet has finally been fibre-enabled and from having a brief look around, Plusnet appear to be the cheapest by a distance!

  • £10.00 per month for 6 months then £19.99 for the remainder of the 18 month contract
  • £15.95 line rental (can reduce to £12.99 by paying up front for 12 months but you lose the inclusive evening and weekend calls)
  • £89.25 Topcashback (£10 on Quidco  - shame on you! :p)

This is loads cheaper than BT and I can't even get a quote off Sky without ringing them as it's the 76MB speed I'm after!?!?

Where is the catch??

The only one I've seen that's even comparable is with someone called "SSE" (who I've never even heard of!!)
