Plusnet Discussion Thread

Using an ASUS DSL-AC68U

Also tried with the BT OR modem and using the ASUS as a router, doesn't seem to make a difference, the issue isn't with the equipment.

Wired connection.

Crudsville, lots of bad talk about PlusNet. Signed up for fibre with them last week, install date is next Weds! Are they really that bad?

No worse than the others for a consumer level service. It's just a little less attractive now because you get less for the same price. It's same old story where a ISP praised for it's low price and 'great service' that inevitably starts going south as time goes by. Plusnet will no doubt follow the likes of Freeserve and Pipex.

I had problems with my connection Sunday, but Plusnet were good dealing with it, and kept in contact constantly letting me know where Openreach were with fixing it. The router is horrendous though, crashes 2-3 times a day. So I'm looking for a new one, would something like the Billion 8800NL be fine? I'm on a budget and don't really want to pay anymore than that.

Or if anyone has a recommendation for a similar cost?

Sorry, I don't know, but a search of this thread and forum section should point you in the right direction.

Personally I'm not a fan of having an all in one unit, because I like to be able to reboot my router if needed without the fear of DLM kicking in.

Didn't I read somewhere that if you reboot kit it sends a power off signal to the exchange avoiding the DLM.

Getting plenty of packet loss for the past 2 or 3 days now making gaming difficult :(. Hopefully after their maintenance things will get better.

Have you tried changing gateways, sometimes some produce poor performance? - http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/

My graph looks pretty normal -

Yes, rebooting the router should do it. If you have a separate router/modem then you won't run the risk of affecting DLM since the modem will maintain sync with the cabinet.

I wasn't complaining to you, just explaining why I don't think it's practical to have to gateway hop to get the best from the connection and yes it doesn't seem to affect some people.

Just an update on my issue. Played about 3 dota2 games between today and yesterday and it seems the stutter-lag has disappeared. TBB graph has also improved. Hopefully it was a one-time occurrence.
