Plusnet Discussion Thread

Anyone else been having issues with google results lately? If use Firefoxs google search to look for say a new graphics card and the shopping results are all US when before they were UK. Strange, if i use google .co.uk it works fine but i thought the results ypu get were geographical to your ip address (I'm not using a vpn).

I was getting this too and I'm on Virgin. Must be a problem with Google.

Just completely cancelled my Sky account and signed up with Plusnet.

Was on 40mb fibre with Sky but have gone with 80mb with Plusnet, the estimater claims 66mb, are these conservative estimates or usually pretty accurate? Line is currently synced at maxed out for 40mb.

Also what is the preferred router for Plusnet fibre? Looking for stability, gigabit ethernet and wireless AC.

I can't remember, but they are generally conservative estimations, I was getting 90mb whilst my line settled. I now get low 70s consistently. A 40mb connection will be capped at 40 hence why it was maxed out , but the copper between your master socket and the street cabinet, and a stable connection will have the final say in your speed with an 80mb connection. At least that's my experience.

Right, this is hard work. Rung Plusnet and it seems my profile was set to an ADSL one hence the 19mb top out. This has been fixed and am now on 57/19. The estimater said 65mb and I was hitting higher when it was first switched on. Will DLM sort that out?

They do profile your connection for stability rather than speed, if the copper between your master socket and the street box is degraded that may be a factor, but also it may speed up once the line has been profiled properly, there is a settling in period.

If it remains that slow and they can't tweak anything, I'd say it's probably not worth paying for the 80 over the 40.

I've been reading into this a bit more and it turns out Plusnet (and maybe VM) bought a load ip4 addresses from a US database and haven't switched over the ownerahip details. See here

It migh also explain why some pages have been loading slowly recent (like Youtube) if I'm being bounced to US DNS servers. Worse yet folk have been turned down credit card and loan applications as IP checks are common place to prevent fraud. I might start a new thread on this issue as it serious business.

Just switched over to Plusnet from BT both on 76mb packages, the new modem/router is only syncing at 20mb. I used to get 62mb+, time to see how good Plusnet's customer service is! I was given an indicated expected speed of 62mb when I signed up which should be spot on.

I have done the BT wholesale speed test and I get my old speed on the 3rd test when I change to the BT server so it has to be something on Plusnet's side. Anything else to check?

I have already raised the fault online.

When I'm on TeamSpeak, TSViewer also shows me as being a US resident - was a bit random at first lol

I've been on plusnet since february 2014 as unlimited fibre user and was getting around 56Mb down/12Mb up.

I did a speedtest over the weekend and now getting 32Mb/1.8Mb!

Had a look at plusnet and there is now 2 packages unlimited fibre and unlimited fibre extra! I checked back through my emails and i dont seem to have any notification that i was getting changed on to the new limited package.

You shouldn't have been. Id contact them if you where an existing customer when it changed you should have been left on the package you where on. (I think)

If you haven't started a new contract, then nothing should have changed and you should still be on your current package and getting the speeds you've always been getting, so I suggest that you get onto them and find out why you've been moved onto the new package.

What are Plusnet like these days? My Sky contract is coming to an end so I'm looking to switch.

I can get Zen for £46.99 a month, although I don't know if this needs an activation fee. Total cost for 12 months would be £563.88 plus any activation fees. It's a 12 month contract.

I can get Plusnet for £10.00 a month for 6 months, then £19.99 thereafter with a £195.58 up front payment. It's an 18 month contract. Total cost would be £495.46I imagine Plusnet may have some cashback offers somewhere.

Not really wanting to consider TalkTalk, BT or any of the others.

I may just pay the extra for a company I know I can trust.

Had no issues except for when their was some exchange congestion (Effected everyone plusnet, bt ext.) Was fixed within a week and they waived a month's bill. No issues since been with them for a year.

I had mine put in this tuesday after a house move and they told me that it was Jan before they did that. If i want one as an upgrade it will be £90 apparently

Switched from BT to Plusnet in the summer. No issues once it was set up. Didn't go for their router since I'd had bad experiences with the WiFi on BT Home Hubs (and theirs is the same hardware).
