Plusnet Discussion Thread

Let us know how the install went.

I'm not jealous, I'm really not lol.

Enjoy.

He came and installed the extension kit even though i never ordered it.

Set up fine no problems, he said my line can handle over 80meg down and 20meg up.

Just did a test on a torrent file and my god did it fly.

Nice one, I'm waiting for a response from Plusnet who are waiting from a response from Open Reach, can take up to five working days.

Then they have to resubmit my order, could be weeks :(

How long were they in your house fitting the faceplate and setting up etc ?

It was around 30 minutes in total. Originally couldn't get a dial tone but he made a trip back up to the exchange and managed to fix it.

I gave him a cuppa tea and he just got on with it!

The whole thing has been dead smooth, top communication from Plusnet throughout. They estimated my speed at 67 but i'm getting around 78mb i think going by download speeds.

Still waiting on mine too, orders on 20th March, due 22nd April.

House didn't have BT service as previous owners used virgin for phone etc. However there is a BT master socket in the corner in the lounge...which is not where I would like it at all. Do you think the open reach chap would move it for me to a more convenient location?

wow thats fast how far away are you from the cabinet?

my estimates are the same as yours and im about 250 metres away from the cabinet on a different exchange tho. Fingers crossed i get similar speeds to you.

i think testing your line speed with usenet/torrents provides a more accurate speedtest. When i use the bt speed tests i always get about 7000-9000kbps. But usenet maxes my connection at 1.1M.

Wow! That's pretty good!

Virgin Media Throttling and banned some torrent sites
Sky banned some torrent sites
BT Throttling and banned some torrent sites
TalkTalk banned some torrent sites

Plusnet - freedom to use torrent sites and line speed!

Indeed, my usage has been quite heavy and I've never been throttled or slowed down. Performance has been consistent from the day of install.

anyone from talktalk that moved to plusnet? whats your experience like?

hopefully mines smooth but after reading the net about moving away from TT ill just hope for the best :D

Im moving from talktalk. Got a letter and email confirming my cancellation of service is to happen on the 22nd which concurs with the engineer visit so as long as the engineer turns up cant see there being a problem.

Im getting a new tel. No as well wasnt bothered about keeping old no. Was getting crank calls from some lending company for awhile asking for someone that didnt live at my address.

I can see talktalk trying to fleece me with a contract termination fee but I have a letter stating my contract ends begining of july so should have to pay them approx £28.50. Will be worth it tho. Lol.:D

I recently moved from O2 to PlusNet, in anticipation of my fibre cabinet going live in mid-May. Currently on their Unlimited ADSL2+ package, and I have to say I'm very impressed.

My ping is very low (13ms according to Speedtest.net) and I'm synced at 9.6Mb/s, the best I've ever had on this line; before it would be anywhere between 5.9Mb/s and 7.2Mb/s.

All in all, very happy with PlusNet, and I can't wait to move to their fibre product. :D

thats nice, my contract ended on february so im hoping there wont be any problems :D although im slightly worried with the transfer which might cause problems since im on TT llu

Ive read a few stories of people not being happy switching from llu to a non-llu as problems can occur if you want to take your phone number with them.
i would dump the landline if i could but need it for bb.

Signed up start of the month, have to wait till 26th :|

Unlimited, line rental, router and a new landline installation, for £79.96. I still think they've undercharged me but they say everything is in order.

If you paid for a years line rental upfront they have defo undercharged you.
Mine was years line rental £125 approx + £9.99 + £5.99 p+p for router.

Right, I have decided to switch to plusnet from Be but just wanted to get an idea of the procedure. The cancellation department for Be is closed over the weekend and I wanted to take advantage of the TCB offer for signing up with plusnet. Do I need to cancel or can I go ahead and make the order, then phone Be on Monday to cancel?

Also what are the correct steps needed to make the transition as smooth as possible and avoid any internet downtime? I've been with Be for so long I can't even remember the procedure for changing providers (obviously need to get a MAC code though)

Any thoughts?
