Plusnet Discussion Thread

I presume some people have been using the top cashback deal with plusnet. I work it out as an average of 12.55 over the lengtho f the 18month contract for the unlimited fibre. Does that sound right? If so that is pretty tempting.

I have never used topcashback before, can anyone confirm that this deal will actually work.

I had been looking at BT, which is obviously a fair bit more expensive than plusnet. Is there anything I should be warned about with regards to plusnet? is the router oK?

Cash back is never guaranteed. I advise people to work on the assumption they will not get it. If any deal is too rich without the cash back, then consider alternatives.

Example, my TCB of £84 for recently signing up to BT has been declined for no reason I can fathom.

Can not fault PlusNet. My switch from BT was perfect. My speed has gone up by 1mb, more be nice but 38/9 is ok. Paying for the full unlimited in case they up it or BT fit a new cab closer to home.

Just phoned PN as I need to speak to someone in support, 30 minute wait to answer the call!!! The other day it was 15 minutes. :(

How aggressive is the traffic shaping meant to be? I have torrents crawling at <10KB/s then going up to 2MB/s+ for periods, its not the torrent either because I have several running at once.

This probably has something to do with their interfering traffic prioritisation system.

I can understand the reason for the confusion. The order is completed and closed off in BTw's provisioning systems so we had no reason to believe it was anything but. Turns out that no physical work has been done to move your service though.

Somewhat out of our control, however I'm sorry we let you down.

Looks like you've got Chris on the case now who I believe will be looking to expedite the new order due to failings caused by our supplier.

Make sure you nudge somebody when you are up and running so that we can adjust your billing.

Best regards,

Can you have a look mate and see how things looking regarding my order now please, thanks in advance.

sure its been asked but i find the router pretty pants. The port forwarding and uPNP doesn't always work, IP config pretty hit and miss also.

So anyway if i were to get a new router, what would you guys recommend ? Not looking to spend too much, and would it replace both the plusnet router and the BT modem ??

Thanks,

Update

To be expected. It's a cheap and cheerful ISP.

My expectations weren't high when I signed up.

Anyway to update my call was answered after about 6 minutes so maybe the 30 minute estimated was just wrong?

Plusnet have been very good in helping me get my fibre working correctly again, if a little slow to answer tickets and having to wait on the phone.

They booked an OR engineer appointment for the very next day (yesterday) and he duly turned up and tested my connection both at the extension and at the line box. He then did a DLM reset on the line. Plusnet actually phoned yesterday evening to follow up how the visit went and if it was now working correctly. Have to say I'm impressed with that, seems they care about getting faults fixed.

Today I checked the BTW performance check and it seems the reset has worked and my connection is back to normal. Hope it stays that way.

Well done Plusnet.

Bit of a mahoosive thread to want to trawl through but are people generally happy with Plusnet?

Currently with BE Unlimited on the cheapest BT contract for the line, get about 16 down 1.5 up at the moment but it's been pretty solid the last few years with not too many issues. But I'm just about to move to a new place, so time to go fibre !

Checked Samknows and the Plusnet web site and it looks like the local exchange will give great speeds. I'm planning on getting them to do the lot, so phone line and fibre. Seems like a lot of people are swapping out the router? I'll probably do this at some point but will need to live with the supplied one for a while.

My main 'need' for internet is reliability, I do oncall and work from home so it really does have to be uptime over pure speed for me. Though as I need to get the new place connected it seems silly not to go for the great speeds as well. :)

I also game when I get time, so that is a factor. At the moment I have a PC and NAS on a cheap GB switch and then that is 100MB up to my router. Also use the phone on it on wireless. This usage will most likely go up when I get into the new place and start adding devices. Maybe another PC and a smart TV down the line.

No issues here with Plusnet fibre, have had it for almost 6mths now i think. Always get consistent speeds both up and down, 76mb down and 20mb up.

Havent had any downtime, well not when ive been at home browsing...super fast.
