Plusnet Discussion Thread

Just put the standard firmware on instead of the Google code one, not much difference.

Though I do like the default one. Popping out to try the RT-N66U instead.

Yep you could try Openreach Modem from Lan direct to your pc or laptop ethernet Lan and see if it had improvement. The Openreach Modem doesn't support wifi. Only the third party router connected to openreach modem Lan.

I rang Plusnet up again to chase them, they said someone from faults would be in touch within 30 minutes. Got an email through asking me to change my username to @plusdsl.net rather than plus.net

Did that, no change so rang up to ask why it had taken since Friday to get me to do this, lots of apologies and I was told I would be called with the next steps. All of a sudden after going to the shops it's back to full speed. Waiting to find out what's been done.

Is anyone using a BT HomeHub5? For £45 on an auction site it seems decent enough compared to the two above that are over twice the price.

This chap's question went unanswered. Is anyone using a HomeHub 5 with PlusNet fibre? EDIT: It sounds like it will work - link.

What's the concensus on PN fibre? Is it good for the most part? I don't care much about them traffic shaping P2P, but I do care that the latency is consistently low (no jitter), and that gaming at peak times is perfect.

It'll cost me about £12/month less over 18 months to switch to PlusNet than to renew my Infinity 2 contract.

EDIT #2: I just called BT and cancelled. Waiting for them to email my MAC code so that I can place an order with PlusNet :)

Got a text today to say my router is on it's way! Not heard any more about the engineer appointment, so I'm assuming it's still on for Monday. So hopefully still on track to be up and running by mid/end of next week.

Just bought a Netgear R7000 nighthawk ac router while on business in the USA. Available in uk soon. Gets a good write up and much cheaper here £135 vs £190. Universal power supply and can fix to use all uk wireless channels and DDT/3rd party firmwares available. Home tomorrow and will try it. Using an old PlusNet zyxel one now.

For the people that have transferred their FTTC service to PlusNet, did they have to do an on-site installation? My order currently says "We'll arrange for your fibre broadband service to be installed. This will happen on 14/01/2014 AM", but there's nothing to actually install.

I tried calling them, but their wait times are currently ~30 minutes.
