Plusnet Discussion Thread

Was told it'll be 24-48 hours. I also got 6 months refund as BT put me on the wrong thing

Currently 38/9 so we wait and see

They cannot reset ip profile for VDSL. Impossible. I think they mistake telling you 24-48 hours. After that 48 hours u will not see any ip profile reset unless it required an engineer to go to your FTTC cabinet to reset it.

My migration to PlusNet from BT Infinity 2 went smoothly this week. However, my HH5 shows an upload speed of 19.5mbit but I only seem to get 10-11mbit when doing a speed test or uploading via FTP.

I raised a ticket last night so we'll see what they have to say. I'll be really annoyed if they make me plug in their router.

Well I woke this morning and it's changed.

Before it didn't even say my IP profile was 48.63 or 20.

I need to reboot the modem and my router.

The DSL/ADSL Checker says 48.63 is my lowest with 63.8 the highest on a clean line...can anyone explain what's going on.

Code:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 36.62 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 38.9 Mbps-48.63 Mbps .
 Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 48.63 Mbps

Code:
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 8.74Mbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

Openreach have decided that our cabinet in the middle of a houslng estate isn't commercially viable (Only 175 houses or so within 250M or the box. We are less than 0.5 Miles from the exchange). Spoken to the Connecting Cheshire bunch and they may be looking at it 1st 1/4 2015 so a little time to wait now :-(

If they do go ahead and upgrade it I presume it would be the same speed as the cabinets done by openreach?

Good news, for me at least, engineer has been round and I am now getting a solid 73.xx Mbps download speed on speedtest.net, download is still around 10Mbps. The one on plus.net seems a bit broke at the moment and the BT one is all over the place for some reason. I'm also assuming the 73Mbps I'm seeing on speedtest.net will drop a bit as it settles in but it's still a lot better than it was, so pretty chuffed.

Out of interest the engineer said he had to call it in, as it was stuck on a 40Mbps profile and even the guy back at base couldn't really tell why. So they ended up completely deleting it and set it up from scratch, was how he basically explained it.

So thanks again to all those that replied and to those having issues, definitely open a ticket with plus.net and I hope you get things sorted.

Yeah the 48.63 figure given on the checker isn't your IP Profile its the sync speed between the modem and the cabinet, the IP Profile is a bit lower.

I guess you don't have access to the modem itself?

It may help you to reboot the modem first thing in the morning, see if you get a better result from that.

I haven't reset the modem yet, about to now.

It's on my desk with my dark knight on top.

I've not done any hacks to the modem yet, should i

plusnet speeds have been dropping lately, sent a support ticket and was told they would contact me within 24 hours, 5 days later still no contact and now the ticket has been removed in my members area, not happy ! ....

So ended up cancelling my BT Infinity order as they kept ****** me around and I signed up with Plusnet. Estimated 50-68Mb speeds which will keep me more than happy moving from a cringe worthy 5Mb on Sky's ADSL LLU network.

Install date is Monday 10th February. So what will happen on the day? Their seems to be various methods of FTTC installation now.

Will an OR engineer attend my home and fit a VDSL faceplate (do they use MK2s?) and the BT modem? Then do I setup Plusnet supplied router or? Also what router do PN supply these days for FTTC? I heard they are still provide crappy non-gigabit Technicolor routers still?

I just want to be sure what I am or am not getting so I can be ready on the installation date. i.e. Buy my own VDSL MK2 faceplate if needed, a better gigabit router (i.e. Asus), etc.

Well rang Plusnet myself this morning and they answered my questions.

They still have Openreach visit your home, fit the new VDSL faceplate and Openreach modem etc.

Then I should receive the Plusnet supplied router a few days prior ready to fit after the OR engineer does his part.

Engineer just makes sure the BTO modem works, up to you to connect the router to it.
