It's about 50-70m away (at the end of the street) so not that far.

It's a shame I'm having problems with the actual service at the moment with speeds dropping as low as 200kbps earlier...and that was on the BT Speedtest!!! At least I can be certain that my end and up to the cab is not to blame. That's why this data is so invaluable.

With the recent speed increase announcement, and increased speeds showing on the BT Wholesale checker, what are people now seeing on their modems?

BT tells me:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 58.8Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps.

My question is this.

How do you estimate the line length from the stats?

Is there a formula or table?

Not so much a formula, from seeing lots of stats you can gauge the distance, it is a bit of guess work, but it's close. There are a few formulas about, all within a few meters of each other, even broad com have not really cracked it with VDSL yet, hence the 0 figure in line attenuation.

Take milanoChris, his line is not much different to mine, he has a nice line, looking at the upload speed, it will be a nice all copper line. he can attain slightly higher speed than me, but my cab is getting full now so crosstalk is going to come into affect and I have seen affects of this. My line is 300 meters I would say his is closer to 400 meters.

Cheers for that. I did have virgin 50 Meg in the beginning until last October when their service went really bad. But this infinity with this speed,jitter and ping is compared to none...

hitting usenet with 76.5 Mbps/9.6 MBps at the minimum, i once saw it reaching 10 MBps :D
