Post your FTTC line stats & unlocking info

All fibre broadband (other than Virgin) is via BT's network.

Why do you say that about TalkTalk? I've had FTTC with them for a year now and it's been great. No problems at all and definitely the cheapest.

Is there an ISP who offers fibre and who can opt you out of DLM, or do all ISPs offering BT based fibre have to accept the DLM? (I say BT based because Sky, TalkTalk don't even merit talking about).

Not that I'm aware of :(

Just for info, this is what my connection 'looks' like:-

This is my current stats (line been up for weeks), I not entirely sure how long my line length is. It can take 3 possible routes

1: roughly 290 meters
2: roughly 350 meters
4: roughly 400 meters

I've only just had time to look at this again. I've now got HG612 modem stats program running and building up data for the ongoing graphs. Had a slight problem initially with the Windows task schedule that it created, changed it from running "HG612_stats.vbs" to "HG612_stats.exe" and now it's running every minute and seems to be logging data as expected.

Thanks for those graphs of yours, so much detail.

I'll wait till there is 24h worth of data to create a meaningful set of graphs.

Windows 8, by any chance?

It's not fully compatible with that yet, but it's being worked on.

Yes, W8, running fine as far as I can tell. Here is 3 hours and full monty.

Still waiting for DLM to do bring the rate down, of course it will do that looking at the number of errors.

Best I can do is put some dosh aside for FTTP next year!

Logsi - My stats are very similar to yours except I'm still on Fastpath. I too did have the full 77mbit for a few days, then DLM kicked in and set me down to 60mbit.
You could look at the option to do a soft reboot of the modem when you notice the SNR a bit higher/Sat or Sunday is usually the best day. I did it and so far i'm at 67mbit sync but only 64mbit attainable (current SNR 5.4)

How would one perform a soft reboot to avoid DLM?

There is a bit of an issue with W8, in that the scheduled task stops running after a few hours/days.

There are a couple of discussions about that going on in some of the more recent posts here:-

With Interleaving switched ON at quite a low depth, my DS errored seconds now usually total around 130 or less over 24 hours & CRC/RSUnCorr type errors were replaced by FEC/RSCorr errors.

I see, I'll keep an eye on it, probably only want to give one full 24h run anyway for now. The Kitz forum is a good read, thanks for linking to it.

Just passed 15 days since getting Infinity 2. I initially connected at MAX but it has dropped down a couple of pegs since. The engineer gave me an ECI modem and I got an unlocked Huawei from Ebay.

After checking the Huawei was working, I reconnected the ECI and noticed that it connected slightly higher than it did before I tried the Huawei so I left it there.

After popping round the road the check the cabinet, I discovered that it appears that I have a Huawei so I came back and swapped them over again. I have never had any speed drops from messing with the modems, it had only happened during the first 3 days of my 'settling in period'

Should I expect my speed to creep up again now that I have the 'correct' modem?

Also, any other advice on my stats would be great as I am a noob!

I'm no expert.. But from what I know don't expect any speed increases UP - you can keep an eye on your attainable and grab a better sync (usually on a Sunday for some reason) as you can see your actual is < then attainable so if you sync now your speed will be lower. I did get 80 at install but it seems as more people take up the service your download does suffer due to Cross Talk this acts as noise on the connection which lowers your speed.

I have just upgraded to the latest hacked firmware too (A2pv6C035m.d22g) which, according to the blog at http://huaweihg612hacking.wordpress.com/ , " The newer BLOB achieves maximum attainable rates which are statistically higher than the rates obtained with the original BLOB. "

Is anyone else using this? I have synced at a slightly higher speed since trying it but that may just be fluke!

Well, I still cannot quite get the same sync out of the Huawei as I can out of the ECI despite having the latest custom firmware (as listed above) and having a Huawei street cabinet. Hmm.

I got the high quality .5m RJ11 cable from Tandy today and saw a nice 1Mbit average instant jump to all rates so that is really worth it if you like optimising too. I was very surprised at this I must say.

Got some graphs going too so i can see the differences made from the cable ect.

Tandy? are you serious? :D thought they went bust on the 90's?

Which cable did you get?

Edit seems they live online now and used ADSLnation for their DSL products... not bad.

Tandy was the european name for RadioShack which later split from the parent company but still stocked RadioShack products. The stores were taken over by Carphone Warehouse. The Tandy website you found has purchased the rights to use the trading name.

Used to be one of my favourite stores when I was a kid :)
