Potentially kicking off in Russia

I think its fair to say that Russia's actions over the past few years are actually about saving face .
That's what I said about giving Jinping, Biden aand Putin two loaded semi-automatic pistols each and make them stand in a triangle with the guns pointing at eachothers' heads if they want a stand off and see who backs down first.. But of course, neither of the leaders of the three biggest and most powerful countries with the biggest militaries in the world can afford the high stakes of backing down as they'll look weak on the world stage.
And neither of them want to give up their nukes do they?
Putin, Jinping and Biden're like two loudmouthed drunken yobs in a bar or pub and squaring odd against eachother or rival gang leaders who're in a stand off and neither of them can afford to back down in front of their mates.
The three of them have got big mouths that're never shut and they're very annoying. Even the chihuahua two doors away from me doesn't have as big a mouth and isn't as annoying.

I'd like to get the the three of them sat a a table, get in their faces and yell at them to SHUT IT!! NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR SHOUTING AND GENITALIA WAVING CONTEST AND YOU'RE AS BAD AS EACHOTHER!! IF YOU CARRY ON THE WAY YOU ARE NEITHER OF YOU'LL HAVE MUCH OF A PEOPLE AND COUNTRY TO RULE OVER NOW BACK OFF AND THELL YOUR TOP BRASS TO STAND DOWN!!! If they persst in blaming each other, then they have the stand off with the guns pointed at each other's head.

I think its fair to say that Russia's actions over the past few years are actually about saving face - and trying to be seen as a power still - their influence is much smaller than it has been in the past 75 years.
Conventional military superiority is lost to them (except at their own back door), they are crippled financially and can't even get out of the group stages of the Euro's.

Nothing that is going on in the world is different from what it has always been - the real threat will come from a country with ideological reasons for supremacy - not economic ones.

Well Russia's economy is going down the toilet and the RUB is worth about as much as toilet paper. They probably think a good ol' land grab will fix that, but the world doesn't work that way anymore.

Embarrassing and shouldn't have happened but they were official sensitive, not 'NATO secret' or even 'secret' like some outlets are reporting.

Makes me laugh that they say the person finding them didn't know what to do so contacted the BBC... why?

I think it's possible that a random person would know of the BBC but not which part of the government/military to contact. Or didn't want to get involved in that and saw the BBC as a viable third party to use as an intermediary(*). Or wanted to get some money out of the situation and saw selling the story to the BBC as either more ethical or safer than selling it elsewhere.

Or, of course, it's a deliberate leak.

* Tangentially relevant - my father worked for British Rail (back when that existed) in a London station and on a number of occasions other BR employees who found MoD documents that had been left on trains gave them to him. Pass it up the hierarchy and it's not your problem any more. Let management deal with it - that's what they're paid for. I'd do the same thing myself.

Probably someone old and not very with it otherwise I'd have thought they'd call their local police station after having a good read of course.
